@@SimpsonsClassics Slow but sure waiting for wheels to come back from sprayer.Had them banded by a company in Essex. Need to get the wheels on to move the car ready for the engine and box to go in. Just finished replacing all the rubber mouldings on the doors/windows (all from Brookhouse),and doors will go on soon. Any progress is a good day,nomatter how little it all goes towards the finished item.

That's a scary amount of rust to start with, but great that the repair panels will deal with most of it. The rubber floor mat is well worth keeping. An example of Swedish practicality. It's a shame that someone has cut the dash to fit a modern stereo. One of mine just has the original blanking plate fitted. It's easy to hide a modern bluetooth set up under the dash. Very keen to see how you get on with the first set of repairs.
@SimpsonsClassics

I think she really isnt bad for a 1964 car, far better than most classic mini we do on this channel, Yes I do plan to keep the mats for sure. The dash hasn't been cut this is where the blanking plate was looks to have been fitted from new, the speaker looks factory also,. Stay tuned for more on this car cant wait to get the front end done.

It's always interesting to pick a new restoration project apart, a bit like archeology because you're looking trying to figure out what went on in the past to the car as in " how come that rotted out but that obvious bit didn't?". A reason I'm a lover of cars is even at my age, 53, there's always something new to learn.
@SimpsonsClassics

It’s definitely exciting for sure. Just trying to find my feet with those project it’s all new to me. But will be welding very soon I am sure. It’s rotted in very odd places this car the drivers side is much better at the top of the scuttle.

@@SimpsonsClassics I always found the near side rots worse than the far side and I always put that down to the kerbside having more water and mud that traps the water to the car, well that's my theory anyway 🤷🏼‍♂️

Great choice of panels. To assist anyone who needs these, the Volvo part numbers are 653418 and 653419 for the cowl panels and 615006, 615007 for the inner wings. We commissioned new tooling for the cowls way back in 1995. Good luck with the rebuild!--

Hi again… Suggestion/advice: Don’t cut the “lighter” panel. That’s the one you should use as it is exactly like the one that the Volvo put on the Amazon at the factory. The “heavier” pice you talk about is an aftermarket patch panel that was made when the car was used as a daily driver and needed a quick rust repair. Start with welding the the first “original” panel while keeping the rusty pice front piece as a reference. The aftermarket piece is a patch panel and should be buttwelded to the innerwing to simulate a complete panel. You have to cut the rear end of the patchpanel to simulate the original look. If you could look up an exploded view of the front end of the Amazon you will see what I am talking about. God luck !

Hi, re the piece of the new panel you intend to cut off. Can I ask why it was supplied with the panel? Perhaps it usually goes in the car. Can I suggest another inspection of the RHS panel. It may be symmetrical and provide more clues how the LHS is to be assembled. Sorry if I'm talking rubbish to a skilled panel restorer.
@SimpsonsClassics
@SimpsonsClassics Жыл бұрын
No your not taking rubbish I am learning with this one. The cowl panel has extra metal on the top as it’s designed to be a multi purpose panel. But I need the front upper part also so going to use the lower cowl but then then to aid me lining the outer wing up I will use the whole of the big panel. This seems to be what people do after doing some research. Cheers for watching stay tuned for more 👍

I am original owner of 1964 122S wagon (one of first imported to US). In great shape (body restored ). Only concern are brakes. Pads replaced, but very slow to brake--and if you chomp down on brakes the wheels lock up. I put in a booster about 10 years ago, but this did not help. What would you suggest to improve braking?
