Glad to find this video. Of all the sims and games I have played in VR, AC Competizione is the ONLY one that is unbearable to use in VR. I'm 8 minutes into your video, but I'm getting the sense you are getting similar.

I have this running on my Varjo Aero - No issues and its stunning (I cant believe how bad it looks on your system) with shadows off the cars look like they are floating.. I'm running it on steam using DLSS (no OPENXR) honestly it looks and plays fantastic (7800x3d 4090 32gb ram)

I noticed that your fps drops even if the frametime is still good. In theory up to 10-10.5ms the reprojection shouldn't trigger, but on ACC for some reason it does. In my case I thought it was a CPU problem (I have a R5 3600) but I see that even with your R7 5800X3D it does exactly the same. I tried with two HMD (Reverb G2 and DPVR E4) and the behavior is the same. I really think it's a game problem. The solution is to set the frequency to 72Hz or force the reprojection. Or just use another sim :)

Yes, looking back on parts of this video, it's bizarre that reprojection triggers when my frame time is sub-10ms consistently (at various points of the video). I'm not sure what's going on with that, but I guess you're correct that it has to be a game problem.

After extensive testing and tinkering with settings I have always found that the game must be closed out and restarted to actually see if the settings are helped. I know it's very tedious but some of the settings that you applied might actually work after a restart I also disable motion smoothing in the steam VR settings and I disable reprojection in openxr just so I can see where I'm at and what the performances like

I'm running A 4090. I was able to get my tweeked to look really good, and once you do, it's awesome. I was using the aero at the time so I was able to use dynamic foviated rendering with openxr. I won't be able to do that with the crystal until they release the Beta.

I’m struggling to get DFR working with OpenComposite (which is what I’d have to do with ACC) although it works very well with MSFS of course since that is OpenXR native. Perhaps this title will work with OpenComposite and DFR, but I haven’t tried yet because I’ve had no luck with that method so far. The OpenVR direct DFR is working however (which is how I achieved DFR in this video).

Hi, but do you also use motion (dof or attenuators)? Because I have a 6 dof base and I use vive tracker to compensate for motion. I use the "open motion compensating" software. My doubt is that currently the crystal not being able to use the trackers how will I be able to use this software to compensate for motion and that is whether it will use the cameras in the crystal or will I have to wait for the faceplate for the bases.

I don’t have a motion rig, no. I assume the Crystal would be able to compensate with the inside-out tracking cameras in the same way it can for 6DOF room scale games, but wouldn’t like to say that categorically with motion rigs as I have no experience with them. Sorry I can’t be more help.

My main VR game is Assetto Corsa (the first) nowadays. Its far less demanding than ACC even heavily modded to look very similar to it. There's a couple of vids on my channel (I am not a youtuber, I just make them for me and a few mates) if you want a look at how good AC can look in VR. Definitely worth your time to get AC tweaked with a few mods and Content Manager if you have a wheel and pedals. Automobilista 2 is the spiritual sequel to Project Cars 2. Uses the same engine therefore has the same great VR performance and great looks. I tend to prefer the physics in the original AC, but if you're wanting something plug and play for great VR AMS2 is a good option. Those same tweaks to sharpen PC2 on that steam guide also work in AMS2.

Excellent! Thanks for the information. Yeah, I remember the first AC looking and running great in VR back in the day even in it’s unmodded form. I’ll add Automobilista 2 to my wishlist.

@ImmersedRobot In order to acc looking good you have to use openxr tool kit and really tweak the settings in game alongside it to make it shine.

@@anthonypinder9384 Again, I’m willing to try this but I’d have to go through OpenComposite to achieve this since ACC is an OpenVR title. If I do that then I’d lose the benefit of DFR which might give an overall negative performance impact. It’s worth a try of course.

I can’t say with any confidence having not tried it, but I’ve heard others mention that even on a 4090 some still have issues unfortunately.

Ok..I will share my experience to help you get better visuals..turn VR settings to low in Game..then put Vr pixels to 140 in game leave other settings alone..I also use open composite with a Quest 2 headset ..I don't have the Primax Crystal yet.

No, it’s an OpenVR title so I believe I would need to use OpenComposite to achieve OpenXR Toolkit integration. If I did that then I’d likely lose the benefit of Dynamic Foveated Rendering.

@@ImmersedRobot Maybe you can give it a try? Seeing good results from VR Flight Sim Guy where he managed to use Open XR Toolkit to enable dynamic foveated rendering in MSFS. Let us know if it works for ACC?

@@ikeken19 I can give it a try but MSFS is OpenXR native so it works great with DFR. Anything I’ve tried which is OpenVR -> OpenComposite -> OpenXR toolkit, doesn’t seem to allow DFR unfortunately. I’m sure there are outliers though so I guess it’s worth a shot.

The unfortunate truth is ACC is VERY badly optimized for VR, this title will bring ANY hardware combination to it's knees in VR. I bought it not to race it but more as a test bench to see how bad, bad can get in VR and it never fails to show this each time I fire it up. LOL The original AC is so much better in VR not to mention you are not stuck in GT3 style racing. :) I'm using a Ryzen 5900x with a Gigabyte 4090 gaming OC and ACC still needs to have eye candy turned down to be usable, oh yeah, this is with a Reverb G2v2 running at 70% SteamVR resolution. Plain and simple, ACC blows dead goats at midnight in VR. LOL

I'm so disappointed with my experience with the Pimax Crystal. I want full immersion, not distractions. I have run a system with 4070ti, i paid top dollars to get a Pimax Crystal, and I can't believe I have to compromise so much on graphic details and to spend hours trying to figure out 3rd party apps such as these tool kits just to try to make it work. ACC is simply unplayable in VR, unless perhaps you have a 4090 and even then it looks to be SO MUCH BETTER on a normal monitor. Even if you think you're getting a high FPS, there are moments in the race for some reason the FPS drops for a split second, which distracts you from the race. As you all sim racers know, losing focus even for a split second can't get you crash in the wall. iRacing works well though, it's a lot more stable in VR, but I have the same comment about the graphic detail compromise you have to make. It kinda sucks you have to run iRacing at low details to get this 120FPS, especially when you pay top dollars.

I did a performance test of ACC on this channel, and my conclusion was that it was not playable with any real level of consistency. I’m not really a sim racer, so my experience in titles like PCars 2 and Dirt Rally probably won’t help you much, but I can get those running reasonably well at 90 in the Crystal on my 3080, but that probably wouldn’t interest you much.
