Assisi Italy Walking Tour & Basilica of Saint Francis
Assisi, Italy is one of the most beautiful towns in Italy and proved to be my favorite experience in the country so far! I hope to make it back to stay in this village for several days!
In this video, we take a walking tour of the town of Assisi and visit the Basilica of Saint Francis as well as the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Assisi.
Assisi is most famous for being the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi, one of the most revered figures in Christianity and the patron saint of animals and the environment. St. Francis, born in 1181 or 1182, founded the Franciscan religious order and is known for his devotion to poverty, peace, and compassion for all living beings. The town's Basilica di San Francesco (Basilica of Saint Francis) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major pilgrimage destination.
Be prepared for lots of hills when touring this town, however it is worth every bit of effort you put into it! :-)

Assisi was one of my very favorite places to visit...so spiritual. I love it and so glad that I had the experience twice.... unforgettable!! It is beautiful and very charming. The places that we stayed in were quite charming as well! It is a place you would not want to miss

Assisi is such a beautiful city. Thanks for taking us along for the walk through town. That cathedral was beautiful. The stock photos you were able to share looked so amazing. I am glad to hear it was such a moving experience for you. Assisi wasn’t really on my list of places I really want to see like Rome or Florence but your video convinced me that it should be!

I disagree that the basilica is the opposite of what St Francis stood for. He practiced extreme personal poverty, However, in his own writings he said church buildings should be “richly ornamented”. (See his Testament)
