Aston Villa have agreed a deal with Chelsea for left-back Ian Maatsen. The fee for the 22-year-old is understood to be worth £37m.

@@spiritualencounters1590Chelsea are a good side and Villa finishing less than 9 points above Chelsea is a good thing as Chelsea are arguably a better side. But I do agree that Villa won’t finish in the top 4 this season. Probably 5th or 6th but Maatsen is a massive upgrade over Moreno and Digne.

Not necessarily. If he sings a 5 year contract that is negative 8m next year (maybe slightly more to account for salary). They are about to sell an academy prospect to Everton for 10m. So they will actually be better off next week having only sold Iroegbunam, who I'd previously never heard of.

I think we might regret this, to a rival and he could become a very good player. I think he would be someone we would look at signing if he was a random Brazilian kid 🤣 I don't really get our transfer policy, I get the part he's pure profit but I thought we wanted to sign these younger talented players. Personally I would of sold Chilwell and kept Maatsen and if it didn't work out next year or the year after would would still be able to get this sort of money for him regardless

Well it's probably hard to find many clubs that are paying 40M or more for any players nowadays outside Premier League so not really sure, where else could you sell players, if you want that kind of money.

@@stephenrice1592 Villa had two good seasons. Ever since Unai Emery came to the club, Villa's points tally has been top three or top 4. All he has to do is maintain that again next season to continue being a top 4 club. If the squad is improved, they could even challenge higher.
