Thanks for taking the time to make this video, and providing us with your knowledge, and the great info content. I bought this Beginners Budget telescope, as I am a Beginner, and Like what I am seeing. I see a few bad reviews on it, But it looks like a Laser Collimator is a Must have item for initial Mirror alignment setup and ongoing maintenance for this scope, to get it to function properly right out of the box and as time goes by. I bought a 2x barlow and some filters, and I was looking at some better eye pieces like, Celestron X-Cel LX Series Eyepiece - 1.25-Inch 12mm & 5mm.

Congrats Gary! At some point of time, try to buy a basic Go to mount from Celestron or Explore scientific or Orion. You don't need expensive one, or even used one might work. The mount is too much of a beginner mount and I would recommend replacing it!

I have to say you are quite informative with the whole camera aspect. Like you I went out first time, jupiter, saturn, commet I could just about track, but photography was a different kettle of fish. I then purchased a lens cap which I already had doubts about because I've come to realise, just how difficult it is to hold a camera against a scope without shaking it. So I found the laptop, lens and free app you have helpful. Just need to test it out now. Many thanks

Small correction for newcomers to astronomy: "Field of View = What you can see in the eye piece" is a bit vague. The field of view (FOV) is *how much of the sky* you can see in the eye piece. If you have a high focal length (FL), you have a small or narrow field of view. If you have a low focal length, the field is larger. Having a large field of view will mean you can see more of the sky at once, but your *resolution* is lower. This means, for example if you take a picture, you will cover less arcseconds per pixel. Or if you observe a planet with a large FOV, it will appear small. Generally small FOVs are very difficult to track by hand so I recommend not purchasing a telescope with a high focal length to start off, unless you also get motorized tracking. Oh, and if you only want to do visual observation, you will see much more with a dobsonian telescope with a large aperture for the same price. Not as great for photography, though But question for Ray: For newcomers to astrophotography specifically, would you not recommend to spend 200$ on a tracking mount for a DSLR rather than on an unmotorized low/medium-quality telescope? Having high-quality equipment and tracking will surely produce nicer pictures at a low FL (tracked camera with lens, widefield) rather than beginner equipment with a higher FL (astromaster 130), right? I am curious on your opinion. Either way thanks for the upload and explanation of this telescope for newcomers, I am looking forward to the next video!

Very helpful! One small observation: I found the cart in the background was quite distracting and prevented proper view of the base of the mount.

Great video. But do we actually polar align telesxope with red dot finder or we shall align polaris with mount axis.
@RaysAstrophotography
@RaysAstrophotography 3 жыл бұрын
Polar align with red dot finder is good enough for viewing. For taking pictures, polaris have to be in the middle of live view screen. Hope this helps Virender. let me know if you have more questions.

Hi Ray !! First of all thank you for such good guiding video for the persons like me who are new with the telescope. It was really very educative. I have a question can we use ZWO along with the 10mm or 6mm eye piece?
@RaysAstrophotography
@RaysAstrophotography 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can but the usage is minimal. You don't need to use eyepiece when using a camera. A barlow and a nose adapter are equally effective. There are some big eyepieces comes with camera threads. They work well with zwo

Good video Ray, I have this telescope .I tried the motor drive on the sun today and I thought it held steady (only roughly aligned to north).I adjusted the motor speed , it was easy to get the sun to stay still. Iwill try it on Jupiter on a clear night, and let you know how I got on. For your camera to fit ,I think you need a t ring adaptor for your specific camera and , to focus, don't you just need to put in a barlow lens first, and then your camera? I had an old webcam lying around and I've been trying that out (logitech270hd) It works quite well ,but I'm wandering if I need an IR/UV cut filter on the barlow to improve pics. ......

Red dot finder can be adjusted based on what telescope is looking at during the day. Try looking at something with your telescope during the day like a telephone poll or a TV antenna! make sure red dot is adjusted to see the same.
