Quick video to show how you can repair a damaged power jack for a Asus EEEpc WITHOUT buying a replacement power jack. It's a simple DIY that requires:
- soldering iron / station
- solder (duh! :) )
- flux
Ok the main idea is .. that the power jack gets loose and drops contact with the positiv lead on the jack (because it's not soldered to it, it's just machine pressed). All you have to do is solder the circle metal end on the back of the jack, to the metal lead ... and that's all there is to it.

Between the white circle and the red pin from the picture. You'll see the end result if u look at the 4:50 - 5:00 mark where i point to the shiny solder in between the capsule of the power jack and the 2 SMD's on the motherboard.

Hi I've dismantled the pc and can see that the connection to the circuit board is loose - actually the track on the circuit board is lifting. I would like to do away with the plug and jack and just solder a + and - cable ont to the circuit board but can't see where. can you advise? Thanks

Hello I find this video very interesting, I have a question, where exactly is welding? That video is not seen clearly, you have a picture or drawing closer? Thank you very much.

Only have a broken one to compare to, but on a working one, is the metal at the back of the socket (the metal tab with a 'nail' welded through it that looks and acts like it connects to the center pin) supposed to connect to the two central soldered side terminals (The ones which don't go through the board)? If this is the case and the problem is that the connection is broken inside the terminal, has anyone tried simply leaving everything in place and soldering a thin wire from the back piece I just described to the outer, central soldered terminal on the board? Seems like this should fix the problem, no?

Hmmm! 'Say Boom La La' isn't much use to a video where all the close-ups are blurred.

Contrary to popular belief, a video, even one on youtube, isn't worth a thousand words. In fact sometimes, it isn't even worth 5 words.

Did that already but twas broke down again after two charging. The solution is NOT to BUY ASUS products again. Asus won't sell you this DC Jack (normally will cost no more than $2) rather they will ask you to bring the unit and will charge you not less than $50. I'm an electronic engr and knows how to repair this but can't find this replacement part...Forget ASUS-sucks!

not very helpful, if you have to ask for explanation about what was actually done... even after reading the comments, I'm struggling to understand what you did here exactly.
