Some notebooks has a simple little hatch and some notebooks like this you must totally disassemble and hope that it will works again. Really stupid from the manufacturers. I have to say that it is quite adrenaline with a brand new laptop.

True..even dell laptops has nothing to do like that .simply open and plug the ram..in my 7 years old laptop i just opened and upgraded the ram..what a stupid piece of shit is this..regret buying this laptop

Basically if you have a business class latpop, replacing RAM or HDD/SSD is sneeze, for those cheap laptops... it is quite a pain.

Luckily Asus learned their lesson and all we have to do on their newer laptops is pry off the back and we get access to the RAM and SSD slot right away.

I'm new to this stuff but I have this laptop and want to add this RAM. You are putting an 8GB RAM chip inside the laptop here. You didn't remove the 4GB standard chip first so does that mean the Laptop now has 12GB? or was there no 4GB to start with?

Hoping its not too late, he had a DVD-ROM but he replaced it with a SSD (+ a conversion kit for the DVD-ROM slot), at least thats how it looks, might be wrong tho

Just wanted to point out if you are going to do something like this, it might be a good idea to wear an antistatic wrist strap. This will help not to fry any circuits. Also, be careful with the ribbon connections.

Those 4 chips in line which you see on the MB when you remove the top keyboard. Mine are hynix. I believe they are the built in 4GB ram. I dont know if adding a ram stick in the slot on the other side will work in tandem with the built in ram or the built in ram will be bypassed. In that case, will there be any improvement in the speed taking into consideration the cpu speed ?

I have that same laptop and crucially it says that it only supports 8GB so I put 4GB on it and that 4GB cannot be removed natively when using the PC everything read 8gb but then on the screen it got distorted as if it were a DVD striped you know why?

OMG, it's on the underside of the board, so they could have simply placed a removable cover specifically for adding and removing RAM modules over that spot like on older HP laptops. 8I

My laptop says that it has 2 slots of ram memory, but when opening it, it is the same as your laptop, it only has an empty slot, I think that the other ram memory is integrated in the board. My laptop has 4gb of ram I guess in the ram built into the laptop. I want to add another 4gb or 8gb of ram in the only slot I see there. which one do you recommend to place. but I have read that you cannot put different ram memories (I have 4g, if I install an 8gb dual channel would not work?)

You can do that in laptops, but its better to keep same rams coz it balances out the work more efficiently, just be on the safer side , get a 4gb one

Hi, I have an Asus R540L, pretty similar inside. It says it has 4gb of RAM, but when I disassembled it I already saw a RAM in the slot that is empty in your video. So if there is also a built in 4gb RAM, should it not show 8gb? Or the one in the slot does not work? When I took out the RAM from the slot, the laptop did not even start...

Before you put the blue colored Ram, the laptop has no Ram? Because your are not replacing any ram, and the ram slot is empty (you just immediately inserted the new one)

Thank you @@nicowh1t3! My question was asked because on this site it.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/aSUS/x540lj it's listed with only a ram slot (in fact it has 2 of them: 1 it's welded the other is the classical one) and it is offered an 8 Gb upgrade. So I wasn't really sure what to do.

@@rakshitbisht3286 crucial, wd, samsung. Depends on yoir budget. Stock hdd + 120gb wd green for win10 is enough. Cheap option for system: 120gb wd green, 120gb BX500. Both cacheless, but cheap and good. Then u van use hdd as storage. Better option: Samsung 250gb 860 evo, MX500 250gb or WD blue 250gb. Most expensive: 500gb. But 500gb BX500 as expensive as 250gb samsung.

Had someone do this , worked but now the laptop only works if you keep it plugged into the wall. The battery says charging but if u unplug it will die. Any idea how to fix ?

maybe this model have some place have a switch button that triggers the battery connection. you need to look for it , close the plastic housing properly to make sure trigger the switch

You can probably can. Open up the computer and do what he did. Pretty much know that you have to disassemble the whole laptop.

@@formestaken You only have one slot to add the ram if you lets say wanted to add 8GB of Ram you would need a *GB stick

Is it okay to upgrade it to 8gb ddr4? Since the default ram is ddr3? In dxdiag the ram is ddr3 but in the laptop box it says ddr4

i think you cannot install ddr4 ram in ddr3 slot, and btw its not supported by processor

why you have ssd in caddy and hard drive as primary drive, the ssd would be much faster if you swap their places

@@KLGamers i dont think so, the odd is operating on much lower speeds i would put the ssd directly on the board, hdd is not very important its just for data speed doesnt matter that much

He swapped the whole odd so he is just using the connectors which has the same speed
