I bought this laptop and so far it has been amazing. Use it in Tent mode or on a stand for better thermals and GPU stays around 70ºc. In armory crate adjust it to silent mode and it literally stays completely silent. Also if you are doing light work just switch to iGPU mode (the graphics card that comes with the CPU) as it is really powerful and can manage almost every workload. I use it for Data Science, Ml, light gaming, Big Data Analysis and it just performs amazing.

Bought it for my work, also, at 1250. I didn't feel right using 3090 rig for a simple remote work and this little thing is just right, silent and uses less energy. Had to buy usb c to dp cable for 5140x1440 rez external monitor though. Wish it came with mini dp port, only minor downside if I can even call it that.

As an engineering student, this laptop does everything I want it to do. However if you want this laptop solely for gaming you will be disappointed, the pixel response time can reach 30 ms and it definitely shows in 3D games. If you do plan to game on it you will need an external monitor but then that would contradict the whole point of having a thin and light.

@@flowfactoryinc07 it might be better than the one you had in terms of comparison, I actually got the tablet laptop hybrid touch screen Asus ROG now with the fold out keyboard and it did better than I expected, definitely meeting my needs so you should be fine with a computer that functions better than the one I have now, as long as you don't leave the thing on turbo mode only using it sometimes, since if you always use turbo mode it takes away most of the battery overtime so you have less of a battery. Also try not gaming too too long and it'll last for a pretty long time, it just does have the ability for high level gaming and graphics on turbo mode but should not be used too much

@fragalot

I doubt changing thermal paste will prevent it from thermal throttling. The only reason you'd replace thermal paste is if it's old and the existing thermal paste has dried up. This is a new product, the thermal paste isn't gonna get any better. However it could be possible there isn't enough thermal paste, or it's applied wrong? but i doubt that.

Not sure what you’re doing so wrong here. Also, why didn’t you try tent mode? A couple other issues: - you can use the USB-C on the left for power if you bought it in the U.S. - this is a 2-in-1 laptop- NOT just a dedicated gaming laptop, so any review should reflect that

Thermals can be improved a fair bit by putting it in tent, stand, or having back elevated (a cardboard stand was included with my unit). Although, it can still get quite load. I have this laptop, and thanks for the good review. I need to say that I think the review is a little skewed off the selling points of this laptop. It was never meant to be a gaming PC to outperform the 15-inch laptops with probably 40-60% more cooling capacity, or even the place to fit bigger = silent fans. I bought this laptop after testing a Surface Pro 7 256gb, but where I got quite disappointed. It almost costs the same, and has no discrete GPU, 4 core i5 and barely a keyboard. The main selling points for me is the extreme portability. You can essentially bring it with you so easily. To the cafè, on the bus, on the plane, in the backpack going to your friends etc. And you are not limited by performance in this device, it packs a solid punch for development (which I do), for playing some games here and there (GTA 5, PUBG, Forza Horizon 5) - and at 1080p you can really push it _hard_. Most surprisingly is the fact that the iGPU is powerful enough to gently run those titles at pretty fair settings, as I have sometimes forgotten to turn of the iGPU mode in Armoury Crate. I think that speaks for itself. Yes, even on battery only - it does really well. So back to my point, if you are reviewing it with the expectations of a pure gaming laptop, I think it is the wrong laptop to put against the fight in terms of performance. A saying is, you can't have the best of both worlds, but you can get close enough to your needs. Asus has done a fantastic job. They just brought forward some of the learnings they have done throughout the years with vertical-mounted intakes on/behind screens on previous models and seen that the cooling in fact is sufficient in tent mode - something you cannot do in 95% of other gaming laptops. Yes, it suffocates in normal laptop mode, but in all fairness i think anyone would be fine to put something under it to give it some room to breathe. I hope there are more 13" laptops that comes around soon like this, as they give me the benefit of portable power. You also mentioned something about the sound- here is food for thought: do you find it unreasonable to have it a little noisy when you go for something so compact?

Good comment mate - i think more reviewers need to make a point of stating the perspective from which they are reviewing this laptop. Someone who wants a generic daily driver for multi-tasking and word processing would say this was overpriced af, so... Couple of questions; How would you rate the screen for media consumption? I'm torn between this and a Zenbook Flip 13 OLED (not entirely sure on my priorities, but gaming would be a nice-to-have addition), and am wondering whether the brightness aspect of this display suffers somewhat. Also, are the bezels physically proud from the rest of the screen? or, much like a Surface Pro, is the screen one flat surface? Thanks in advance :)

I use this thing a lot in Lightroom, premier pro, Photoshop, and after effects and honestly, the thermals are pretty good considering what's inside. I also have been playing saints row remastered occasionally. The thermals are only an issue imo if you're gonna be using it on your lap, aside from that, it's not an issue. If you put the laptop in silent, turn on the egpu mode found in the laptops armoury crate and put the brightness around 50% you can comfortably get 6 hours of battery life. I run it at 120hz too so maybe this guy got a bad batter. When you turn on the 3050 and put the brightness on max, then I get around 3 hours of useage. @@dhilsiva my girl has a swift x. she bought the 5800u and 3050ti varient from amazon. it's nice but it doesn't have a two in 1 feature, touchscreen, good speakers (or even loud ones) and a tb of storage. the build quality is also a little wonky and no 120hz, but if you don't really care about those things, I would totally recommend the swift x. it has more IO ports, and it's $350 less than what i paid for my x13. the most intensive thing my girl does is play Minecraft while having a few chrome tabs in the background and the laptop never really gets too loud or too hot for her hands. she also said she never experienced lag when she had it in her version of basic performance mode (idk what acer calls it). the only thing is that the swift x does not have an sd card reader so you're still out of luck there. but the battery is better in the swift x when you turn off the dGPU. in my x13 with the dGPU off and 70% brightness, i get about 5 hours of battery now, but on her swift x, she would typically get around 6 or 7. granted, i am more of a power user than she is, but honestly, if I'm going to be using my "power user" apps, i would have it in performance mode and only expect 2 hours max before i need to plug in. edit: one thing my girl does not like is that she cant fast charge her swift x with her USB c cable. this laptop for some reason comes with a typical laptop charger, not a USB-c charger. the usb-c port on the swift x does allow it to charge, but like i said, it is slow and does not support fast charge even with my basues 100w brick and my nimaso 100w usb c cable that i use to charge my x13 in about 1 hr 15 min

So it cost more than other laptops that have lower spec CPU's who would have thunk. Also, this is really thin and lite it was going to cost an arm and a leg like all thin and lite laptops do. I personally think Asus could solve the thermals by not having this as a 2 in 1 but turning it into a straight tablet with a 2.4 GHz keyboard and mouse that clips on. and having larger air cutouts. I know why they do that since you don't want dust entering but if you have it not sitting on the surface dust should be less of an issue.

this is a 2 in 1 why you can literally open up the exhaust by flipping the screen while rendering and gaming if using controller / keyboard and mouse. Editing on the other hand with pen im sure it could work alright but if not that would be the only time i see that rear exhaust being blocked. I believe that is why other reviewers did the bench marks with the laptop in triangle shape on table to open up the back exhaust. When rendering your're not going to be doing anything anyways just open the exhaust.

Hey, i have a 3080ti 12900K desktop housed inside a Corsair 5000x. I travel and stay at Airbnbs and needed something ultra portable, bestbuy had this laptop although mine has a ryzen 9 6900hs and DDR5 with gen 4 SSD and a higher wattage 3050ti. I recommend the model I purchased. It’s 35% better then the model shown here. It’s super small 120hz display and strong enough to play games. Its insane how strong it is for how small. It also works great as a stream monitor if u flip it upside down on your desk with your desktop. * don’t buy this if you don’t own powerful rig already. I bought this "laptop" about a month ago. I absolutely love it! I play Elden Ring, I play dying light 2 on high settings, there are no fps drop to be spoken of. The External GPU takes most of the load off the laptop itself, so the PC never actually gets that hot. Obviously dont try to play crazy games with it in tablet mode. BUT! Heroes of might and magic 3 works great as a touchscreen pc game, darkest dungeon is great with it, Civilization franchise is totally touchfriendly also and many more...... Also i want to say 1 more thing, yes- obviously this is pricey, but you really get what you paid for: You have a computer that can do EVERYTHING. Here is how i have my set up: I have my External GPU (which has like a crazy amount of ports) set up on my desk, with a big gaming screen, some BT speakers, a keyboard, and a mouse (the mouse came in the box with the pc, its awesome with lots of buttons and a removable weight for custom gaming wahhhhh), and the flow x 13 itself- i just plug in and plug out as i want. The External GPU charges the laptop also, ive never actually used the charger for the pc itself (its just chilling in my backpack- next to the powerbank XD ). I have a 16gb touchscreen laptop which can plug in/connect to anything whenever im out, and i have a 32 gb RAM, 3080 RTX, gamestation at home to be reckoned with. I havent even started using the drawing stuff- but i will. Asus really take a step to allow you use your products efficiently, u get 2 separate (amaizing looking and v good quality) cases in the box- 1 for the laptop and 1 for the external gpu, so really i could bring everything with me and it wont be bigger than 2 regular books, literally- the ps5 controller and the headset would weigh more and take up more space than than the flow + station. This is what you pay for. Oh ye AND- this is the first laptop that ive seen that has a real "silent mode". I even put my ear to it- couldnt hear a damn thing.

@@therealomega0127 wow, it's like you're talking about a different laptop. I don't want to imply anything... But is it possible that u fried it by not connecting it properly? You're not supposed to disconnect the GPU without the proper procedure, you're not supposed to charge the laptop from the right hand port, if you have the GPU connected on the left. Also If you put it to sleep with the GPU connected, then make sure u turn it on in the same way. All of this stuff is in the instruction manual, which I admit I have never read before, for anything, but this equipment is expensive so I decided to go for it. There were some software issues at the start when I bought it, but that's more to do with external screen connectivity and bt speakers kept cutting out... But after about 10 combined updates of the armoury crate and windows OS- there's no more issues games wise for me whatsoever, I'm even beginning to get bored, because now I've pretty much played and completed everything I wanted) I'm playing elden ring with no FPS drops at around 83-84 degrees. Also I bought the laptop in Russia, so I doubt I got a better manufacturer than you. But the reality is that you might have just received a faulty product... I've never had that happen with Asus, and I buy almost all my electronics from them.... But this doesn't mean it couldn't have happened to you. I feel your pain man, I would be furious if I was in your shoes. I really hope u can get it sorted.

Mine would last between 6 to 8 hours on silent mode, honestly your review is not accurate or you might have a problem with your laptop.

Put it in a tent position using wirelles keyboard and mouse, put Grisly Thermal Pad and you have great laptop. Personely I would buy Ryzen 7 model with Gtx 1650 gpu and for heavy workload use external gpu. Ryzen 9 is not that much better then Ryzen 7

ONE very major flaw? What about that ROGXG port? HOW MANY different dead products are there now that will never be usable on any other system because a company made it for ONE laptop... and then abandoned it? (I'm looking at you, Alienware, as a recent example.) Thunderbolt! FFS, companies, just use thunderbolt! It's why my Dell XPS laptop choice didn't instantly render my $400 HP docking station into a functional brick. It's why I can plug in just ONE single cable and have my keyboard/mouse, monitors, power, audio, everything all taken care of. Even an eGPU - without needing a special one-off "XG" card... also, the price on that over the GPU inside it? You're paying $500-600 for a plastic housing with proprietary connectors. Which will become a brick the instant you get a new laptop. Asus is no stranger to dead docking stations... edit: fixed grammar/cleaned up a bit (sorry!)

Are you sure that ASUS will ditch the XG port? any chance that the next version of Flow 13 or any other model (2022/2023 maybe) will use the same proprietary port

You can't use thunderbolt on AMD processors

To date, I have not seen a single laptop I have been able to use. My hands are too damn big. I have tried using a big 17 inch with a full keyboard and like driving a clown car. Yes you can attach an external keyboard but that kind of defeats the purpose.

How the Hell did you only get 3hrs 10min out of this thing? I get 7-8 hrs easily.

Doing what? My battery tests are standardized so that they're repeatable across all the devices I use. The same battery test that yielded 3hrs here yielded 8-9+ hrs on the Surface Laptop 4.

Yep. 3hrs was my BEST result in power saver modes. Even worse when running in a different setting. 2/3rds brightness, WiFi connectivity, Nvidia GPU disabled in device manager.

There are really two camps of battery life. On gets 5-6, the other can get 7-9 (usually with more tweaks as you approach 9). Getting 3 hours indicates either a faulty unit, bad testing methodology, or the reviewer just wants the machine to fail.
