The RT-AX1800HP is also known as the RT-AX54HP in Australia...In fact, I looked at the source code for the ASUSWRT firmware and it uses the same chip (Mediatek) as RT-AX53U. The only difference is that the AX1800HP/AX54HP has 4 LAN ports and does NOT support a 3G/4G cellular USB dongle. While the AX53U has 3 LAN ports and a USB 2.0 port for 3G/4G cellular USB dongle. Both models support AiMesh after a firmware update. Everything else is pretty much the same. I think its possible to use OpenWRT on these two models. (If you move up in the series like RT-AX55/56/58, they all use Broadcom chip. So no support for OpenWRT.)

that firmware upgrade for the ax53u is actually a great addition, although the price difference between the two is just minimal, maybe for some that extra lan port from the ax1800hp is important while for others that usb port is actually useful, nonetheless, both actually performs great with the stock firmware.

I Heard that AX1800HP has full Ai protection suit while AX53U have limited features suit.

Great review, I was looking upgrade from my TP-Link Archer C58HP, these days most solution is Mesh based, and even TP-Link did not release successor of Archer C58HP. Thank you for this review, now I have more alternative.

Hi Saif, the ac23 should be more than enough, but if all your devices is wifi 6, switch for the the ax routers to get better experience.. :)

for me, the best budget router available is tenda ac23 really great up to this date, while for asus routers the best entry level i can recommend is ax53u.. both router can handle that 500Mbps plan.

@@Kira-wq7eb Unfortunately I can't recommend something that I have not tested. another reason is that some wifi routers offer great specifications but dont perform well. for tplink the one that i have tested is ax23, and it performs okay but would still choose the asus ax53u.

Unfortunately sharing of passwords via qr code, especially for Android device is not possible to block, if you really want to have only known devices connecting to your network, i suggest MAC filtering.. :)

In many comments you have mentioned ax53u to be better than this model. But shouldn't this one be better in terms of range due to HP longer antennas? For me range is the only requirement.

Hi, that is always what people think, HP longer antennas would always have longer range, but even though wifi routers have high gain antennas they sometimes do not perform as what we expect. For my actual experience between the two i would still recommend the ax53u..

For me, i would choose the ax53u since the new firmware gave it a capability to have AI mesh.. and in in my experience this is better than the ax1800hp.. :)

@@Pixel-Pursuit1998 there are no specific info on ASUS website, it only mention 9db, but the ax53u has shorted antenna, so i would say that ax1800hp have high gain antennas.

Hi sir, pwede naman po, for a single hop wala naman magiging issue or pagbabago na nakukuha mong speed sa rt-ax, pero make sure ng ung tp link ay may gigabit port din, kasi kung 100 mbps lang, medyo malaki pagbabago..

Hi, third-party wifi routers, like this one will help you get a better wifi experience, like a stable connection to wifi network, prioritization of gaming traffic etc.. but always remember your internet service provider should also be great.. there are no special settings to click on this one, out of the box, it provides the best configuration.

Will try to check if we can borrow one from tplink to test.. i cant actually recommend the tplink ax53 since i have not tested it, the rt-1800hp is a great wifi router, but it is only wifi 5, but i believe in terms of range it is a winner, you can also try to check asus ax53u.. almost same performance with the rt-1800hp, but it is already wifi 6 and aimesh ready..

Hi Joshua, unfortunately not for this ASUS model or any ASUS model, more of personal use, for voucher type wifi, you can either get piso wifi vendo, Tplink omada series or mikrotik or built your own router with pfsense..

Hey mate, I have this router and by the app it says I’m only getting like 40KBPS, But my modem pushes out about 50mbps by my speed app, Is something wrong ? Is there any way to boost it up

Hi Blake i think you are referring to the real time traffic that why it is just showing 40kbps, but if there is an actual activity like trying to download files or watch videos that number would show the actual internet usage.. try to do a speed test and you will see that on the app it will spike around that 50Mbps..

@@brazmadsen9043 pwede sya with prepaid wifi basta available ports para i connect ung prepaid wifi at ax1800hp, kung bibilis po not 100 percent, check mo muna actual speed na nakukuha mo via lan cable on prepaid wifi mo po, try using a laptop or desktop using lan, then compare over wifi connectivity, pag malayo difference, makakatulong ung ganiting wifi router..

i dont have the unit anymore, but i believe for a fresh unit, once you connect to it there is no admin and password, it will direct you to web configuration, or check the sticker under unit for password..

Hi Nguyen, that is weird if you are not able to access such sites, if you are just connected directly to modem router, are you able to access the internet?

@@JKChavez Thank you for your help. I just called to my Internet service provider and they fixed it to me. The problem is that my output cable is for TVs so they just change the output.
