Easy fix if you have a thermal camera I guess. Nice quick one Sorin! You are going to get a lot of hate if you don't replace cap's. I guess you can at least say "I'll replace the cap" with your sly smile the viewers like me will understand :)

Thanks a lot for sharing Sorin. Why you wanted to find out the polarity in the caps? (just right before checking with the thermal camera). Also how would you proceed if you had had no thermal camera?
@ijaygee1
@ijaygee1 6 ай бұрын
You need to inject the current on the +ve rail so that the faulty component gets hot. Injecting on the ground would not send current through the board - it is a pointless exercise. With no thermal camera, you can feel around with your fingers for a hot component/area, and then use a volatile liquid like isopropyl alcohol (IPA) (or Sorin's favourite is lighter fluid/petrol) to see which component evaporates the liquid first.

What temp you use as you leave the board in case ? Are not worried to damage screen ? Just curious as i'm still removing motherboard from chasi (but i'm only hobbiest :) )
@TheDigitalAura

This concerned me too. OLED displays are easily damaged by heat, so if this was my repair I'd use hot tweezers to minimize the chance of damage. Another option would be to open the laptop and have the screen over the edge of the bench.

That's because removing components increases noise/ripple on the track, and strains/reduces the lifespan of remaining components.

how do you charge the customer? I mean, here in Brazil, the price for the repair uselly is about 40% the value of the motherboard (we use aliexpress to compare the prices). For you, the price is unique no matter how expansive the laptop is?

Hi everyone. Quick question for anyone who can answer. Should every laptop CPU have a resistance of 70ohms on the coils? As Sorin was saying even 60ohms can indicate a dead CPU. Much appreciated to anyone who answers.

If that cap was unnecessary, why put it in there at all?
@g4z-kb7ct
@g4z-kb7ct 6 ай бұрын
Because standard engineering designs and component specifications require it. But specifications have a tolerance and manufacturers put more capacitors there to allow for variations in performance of individual components and tolerances. There are many more capacitors than the minimum required and that is why removing a few caps won't make any difference. But bear in mind these caps are all on the power rails. If you remove a cap that is part of a functioning circuit the circuit will stop working. You need to analyse the circuit to know if the cap can be removed or not. But generally a few caps on power rails can be removed without affecting anything.
