The ASUS Zenbook Flip S is the first laptop we've seen that uses the Intel Tiger Lake i7-1165G7 and is part of the Intel EVO platform. In this review we go over the Zenbook Flip S UX371 performance, benchmarks, battery life, keyboard and also that stunning 4K OLED screen. But other than the confusing name and new platform, is the Zenbook Flip S worth it vs the Dell XPS 13 2 in 1 for the best convertible laptop in 2020?

Hey guys, even we get confused these days with Intel's naming schemes. The chart at 1:47 should read i7-1160G7! Depending on region, retailer, etc. this notebook will come with an 1165G7 (oddly also configured to 8-13W), 1135G7, 1160G7 or 1130G7 along with different memory / storage configs. Yeah its super confusing....but no different from other laptops we've seen in the past.

The worse thing according to Anandtech is now we cannot know what TDP OEMs put it the machine because Intel change the way that is read it, CPU-Z would always says 28 watts even if the OEM set the TDP in 15.

In a sense I get it, if your phone doesn't have a headphone jack (which is increasingly common) then you're probably using bluetooth headphones. If you already have bluetooth headphones and you're out and about with your phone and laptop you may as well use the same headphones for both. Otherwise you need to bring two pairs of headphones. Just playing devil's advocate; I do think we may as well have headphone jacks on everything, or at least catch up on aptx low latency codecs everywhere..

Great review thanks. I would have liked to hear an example of the speakers though just to get a general idea. I have the hp spectre 13 t late 2019 with the oled 4k screen. Where it beats this is having a headphone jack, a lovely keyboard, and I've had no problems with the hinge wobbling. Where this Asus beats it is the webcam, the number of nits (600 vs 400) and having an hdmi port (although personally I don't care about that), and the battery life is way better. I can't comment on the speakers but I can tell you that the speakers on my spectre x360 are loud but have an EXTREMELY annoying rattle with certain tones, which is present on all 6 hp spectre x360s I've used (my own, the one I sent back for dead pixels and bad speakers - the replacement has a good display but the speakers are even more rattly), and the 4 I played on in stores. This is not present with headphones though so for music streaming that it what I use. The webcam on the spectre x360 13t is absolutely dreadful, way worse than any other laptop I've owned. Worse than bad security cameras. So if you're shopping for a 13 inch 2 in one with an oled screen here are the good points and compromises between these two machines. I think the spectre is also smaller, and obv has 10th gen cpu. I've not had problems with heat or excessive fan use.

I’ve had this device for a month now I’d say their are some pros and cons, Firstly the screen is beautiful especially when watching movies etc, the flip to iPad mode is very smooth, and the design of the laptop is still pretty in person, I can also play games on it (not intensive games though) but you can’t get anything above 60fps on Minecraft but that’s still impressive, but sims 4 runs smoothly, also on the myasus app there are options to change performance modes which changes how fast the fan is, you can also change how high the laptop can charge and oled settings and alot more, it’s also very portable and light Now the cons, this device is very glossy expect to get a-lot of fingerprints on this laptop, also the pen can be a bit awkward to use at times and I would rather have a chargeable one rather than replace the battery, this device was also very loud when I first got it I did change some settings and that stopped it being loud all the time, lastly it doesn’t have a headphone Jack and it only has one usb port, also what he said about the power button is correct, I’m so glad that I got this laptop on sale because it’s original price is quite expressive, also the version that I bought had the pen and a sleeve, it was a steal.

On top of telling us how much time the laptop lasted while looping a benchmark it would be cool to know how many loops the laptop made it through before dying. It’s less important how long the laptop lasts under load and more important to know how much work can be done under load before it dies.

It seems like a pretty cool laptop. Not having a headphone jack is, in my opinion, absolutely asinine. What I do find interesting though, is that if that is the performance and battery life that Intel is getting out of 7 - 18 watts, putting Ryzen APU's in low-end laptops is probably a good thing.

About when AMD can actually make more than a handfull. Large manufacturers depend on a batch to do a manufacturing run....if they need 1000 CPUs for a run to be viable and only get 100, they will use an Intel instead. Simple economics, performance has nothing to do with it.

It is my opinion that; the battery life under load test should include the amount of work it achieved compared to the others. Because, a faster CPU that didn't work for as long could have completed the same work quicker. Thus, not be under load for as long have and actually have a longer battery life.

Wanna make thing straight. I own ASUS Flip series, and yes the power button a bit hard to press, but you should also remember that it's a 2 in 1. Hard-to-press power button is annoying, but accidentally pressed power button when you're at work is way worse.

I think something is special. 1800 on Cinebench on Performance mode is basically as good as an i5-9300H! A 45W Gaming CPU! So you're basically getting a killer deal with this considering even Xe graphics are present. And you have great battery. And you have great portability.
@Imman1s
@Imman1s 3 жыл бұрын
Except that the 4800U beats the ** out of it for multi-thread tasks (which is what that Cinebench score is for), is better for gaming and at least one of the laptops with it he used has better battery life. It only wins in endurance tests by severely limiting performance, which means it lasted longer but likely did way less work in that time, and even that is was not a convincing victory if you take in account that the 4800U has to power twice as many cores plus the iGPU in ~15W power envelope. And to add insult to injury, the 4800U laptop are generally cheaper. So unless you absolutely NEED that 4K display in a 13'' 2 in 1 form factor, you better stay away from this specific model.

@@Imman1s Well yes, Ryzen is a whole different topic LMAO. I mean my Ryzen 5 f*cks a*s of literally the entire 10th Gen Intel Laptop Market without breaking a sweat and still gives better battery life than some Intel Ultrabooks. But I wrote this in the sense that Intel MIGHT come back and this efficiency is actually comparable to Ryzen CPUs if not better!

@@nikhilpaleti3872 I hope so, they are in a pretty bad shape right now and the last thing we need is them collapsing and giving AMD (or anyone else) a monopoly in the CPU market. But it doesn't like TigerLake will be the generation to bring back the fight. Nevermind the 4800U, AMD just announced the new Zen 3 architecture which is the actual TigerLake competition... and if they didn't outright lied about it, things don't look good for Intel next year either. Specially if the architecture rumors are true and all AMD has to do is assemble the Zen 3 chiplets in the same substrate and identical controller as Zen 2.
