Thank You for the memories. I spent several years in Miss Duke's employ. She was an extraordinary person who displayed great passion for a wide variety of interests. I wish I could have seen her once more.

There is a video here called Doris Duke's birthday party at Duke Island . I just got done watching it and I am so angry . These people who genuinely loved and cared about Doris Duke and her Legacy talk about how the Doris Duke Foundation and it's spinoff got rid of her Gardens and there was talk of doing away with the mansion.. on another vid someone said the Mansion is totally gone . Oddly enough she entrusted those people to PRESERVE the things she loved such as her Gardens and her home . It is heartbreaking . I can't imagine how you must feel knowing this . Terrible to think that a Board of Trustees did the exact opposite of what they were created for and got away with it .

Yes a special gift to fans for us to see this video of the properties and Gardens . You will find it ironic therefore that the gardens are now gone thanks to her own Doris Duke Foundation who did not honor her Legacy which was for the Gardens and her Mansion to be preserved . I heard the Mansion was torn down also even though she worked diligently to Keep It upgraded

Thank you posting this video. It is always nice to see when financial donors are honored. Please post more archival video about Doris Duke. I would like to see her in her Manhattan family estate.

I don't know if you still read KZfaq comments to you . I really thought it was ironic how you mention it's nice when Financial donors are honored . The lovely Gardens you see here are now gone , thanks to the Doris Duke Foundation who were created to preserve Doris Dukes' Gardens & mansion . They did the exact opposite of what they were created for and did not honor her at all but instead they totally shit on her . Someone said the Mansion has been torn down also . There's another video here called the Doris Duke birthday party at Duke Island... in it you will see people talking about how that Foundation did not honor her Legacy and tore down her Gardens . That video was 4 years old and I think since then the Mansion has been torn down which they were trying to preserve

Doris died at Falcon Lair (Valentino's former home in Beverly Hills) a small home by Miss Duke's standard and a home mainly to stop over at on here way to Hawaii.

Maybe you folks should go check out the Inman twins so you can learn what these wealthy/beautiful people really live like behind closed doors. I'd advise those of you who are Christian that are still caught up in the pretty facade that these people portray to understand that you're admiring the offspring of satan. for the followers and offspring of satan, I'd advise that you start doing some soul searching and try to get back on the right side of things before it's too late. for those of you who can't or won't, I'd advise that you really savor these little moments of hurting others for your own gain/satisfaction....because it's going to end before you know it, and you're going to be on the receiving side of the pain for a lot longer than you were on the giving. God will not be mocked, and justice is a real thing.

How in the world, over the course of several decades, did these home movie clips get shot without showing her security entourage? Since infancy Doris had more security personnel around her than European royalty or the US Presidential family, yet in all of these clips, its staged to show her sometime walking gingerly along with her dog or parents or a few people. Her father always feared as a child she would be kidnapped for ransom and so she had the best security in the world always. As a child in NYC her personal maids had photo books of her school uniforms to use to choose her clothing outfits for each day. She was chauffeur-driven to elementary school in a limousine. When she was in Europe in the 1930's, her monogrammed chauffeur-driven Packard limousine was followed by her private security guards in another car and there was a secret alarm switch under the floor carpet she could discretely step on to call for them, and she did use it! So, it would be fair to say that ALL of these clips are staged and edited to the Duke family's liking but do not portray reality as it existed for them. Duke Farms had a 6 member security team of Ninja security guards with a pack of attack Doberman Pincher dogs patrolling the estate. They were trained to go for the jugular! But still it was nice to see these videos as Doris as an adult refused to do any publicity or media interviews. I think there was just one small newspaper interview. And it's ironic that her father gave a lot of money to that college and they changed their name to Duke University but after he died, when requested, Doris, "the richest woman in the world", refused to give them any more money!

Oddly enough in the end she got ripped off by her own Foundation created in her name when the trustees deliberately tore down her Gardens here and I understand that they also tore down the mansion which went against everything she wanted as she was trying to preserve her Legacy for the public to enjoy

I forgot this earlier; if you ever tour the great houses of Newport and you should there are two common threads throughout those great estates built pre income tax. The first being the men died young and the women went nuts (Vanderbilts being the exception to the first part, but I'm afraid we could argue the second part i.e. Alva :) ) The second thread is here sat some of the most luxurious homes the world had to offer at that time, every conceivable luxury available from the time period, money was no object blah blah woof woof okay what was missing.... not ONE Bellevue avenue or Ocean drive estate had one..... anyone know what that is??? :-) answer at bottom at least I'll try to put it as close to the bottom as I can, some of the older posts I don't think let you reply to them.

+cavsh00ter My company did her renovations on her Manhattan apartment in the 80s and I met her several times. She was always kind asking us personally if we wanted lunch or something to drink. She seemed like a kind person. Funny how people gain impressions from looking at a photo or a video when they nothing of the person they are looking at.
