The AT-S is a Soviet-made, medium-weight, tracked artillery towing vehicle.
Finland acquired these workhorses in the 1960s, when renewing its heavy artillery.
We made a short test drive in Pornainen with this sympathetic-looking vehicle.
The AT-S was good tool for what it was intended for: hauling heavy things off-road. But it was hard to think of any other use for it. AT-S was hopelessly in pawed roads, and the tracks grind up the road surface. The AT-S requires a lot of maintenance, and fuel costs are high.
