At the Jazzbandball - McPartland Jimmy 1975
From a 1975 club concert movie called "At the Top" we see a performance of "At the Jazzbandball" with musicians who, in some way had been associated with Bix Beiderbecke. Jimmy McParland cornet, Joe Venuti violin and Spiegle Wilcox trombone played with Bix in the twenties and the other musicians certainly appreciated his musical genius.
We see pianist Marian McPartland, alto horn player Dick Cary, a to me unknown clarinettist, drummer Cliff Leeman and bassist Major Holly.

Thanks very much for sharing this. It brought back wonderful memories of Jimmy, and this video clip is typical of how I remember him best. We had many wonderful conversations, and I always loved hearing his stories. I think of him often.

The drummer was Cliff Leeman, one of the truly under-rated drummers of all time. Great stylist, his playing showed wit, sometimes of a certain self-deprecatory quality

SO good, especially Venuti's solo, Cliff's "four-trades" and all the ensembles. The last chorus is a really swinging affair. As Condon liked to say, "there isn't a blood relative in the stand."

Love Cliff Leeman's style. A lot like Wettling imo.

Gerald Nichols: George the Wet, as Eddie C once called him, was a more subdued, laid-back accompanist than Cliff, who was more prone to fill holes, at least prior to final choruses, which is when George would finally pull out all the stops. I loved 'em both!

@@MrKlemps Hi, thanks for the reply! I now (at 88) regret that when I was new at leading a band, I didn't require several different drummers to know the tunes. I see now that it is very important they do.
