I recently put the Toyo Open Country AT3 on my Dodge Cummins in LT265/70R17. They seem like they're going to be a great tire for my needs. They have excellent traction in loose sand, and don't squirm on the highway. They do get a bit noisy over 50 MPH, can definitely hear them hum even over the loud Cummins engine, but not nearly as much as mud tires and some other all-terrain tires do. Even though they're e-rated they still just have 2-ply polyester sidewalls, but they still seem stiff enough to provide good lateral stability when towing heavy loads. What nobody mentions though is the extra 2 nylon cap plies they use in these tires to increase the overall durability, which many of the competing tier one brand tires tend to skip out on for some reason.

Toyo A/T IIIs are on my Ford Ranger (2WD, extended cab) with only a couple hundred miles. The Toyos replace Goodyear Tracker IIs (had plenty of tread remaining, but wanted something more aggressive, just in case...). The day of their install, rain was very heavy. They did great against flows of water across interstate. Also, they do look very nice. There is one Very Noticeable Downside vs a more roadway tire. The sidewall flex can be detrimental during very windy conditions. I have new shocks (less than 500 miles on them). The Toyos are not oversized. The swaying was that noticeable immediately!!

Running the Open Country AT3's here in the UP of Michigan. 265/75/16 on a slightly lifted 98 Grand Cherokee. So far they have impressed in every condition I've thrown at them. For being a 32in tire they are very stable at highway speeds with little noise. Compared to my winter only tires they give up a little bite on ice but still very predictable. The winter only tires would let go all at once if you pushed them hard on slick roads. The AT3's "talk" to you more about what the road conditions are like. Much less numb of a feeling. For me that's a huge plus. As for miles on them, I only have around 3k on them so I can't say much about tread wear. I would buy them again without a second thought.

I’ve had many Toyo tires over the last 3 decades so I am familiar with the quality the company puts into them. But I do have to differ of what you call the best tire being the AT3. When you look at the amount of siping on the 2 over the 3 the normal result will be better grip on ice. I would speculate that the vast majority of drivers in SUV and pick up trucks don’t really take their vehicles over any off road terrain. So most are not going to be too concerned with am I getting a tire that will prevent me getting stuck, over do they have traction on ice on the highway. As a person living next to the Canadian Rockies, I am far more concerned with not loosing traction and getting into a head on collision, over going over a cliff. Now you have not gone into details about the softness of the rubber compound in each tire, but if they are the same, the AT2 will have better hold on ice, and I think that the tread pattern is sufficient to handle whatever snow is on any normal highway that has snow on it. Plows do a reasonable job of getting rid of most of the snow on the surface. Look at the KZfaq videos on winter crashes, and it’s the ice underneath that is the biggest villain.
@CampusautoCo3 жыл бұрын
I agree. The compound is supposed to have better compounds to increase traction in winter weather. Other than that, I don't have any more technical details. When SEMA goes back live next year, I might go and interview their engineers, and marketing people and see what they say.

I’ve got a 2019 Honda CR-V AWD with Hancock Tires that are supposed to be snow rated. You mentioned that the Hancock AT tire has lots of sipping. So, does the Hancock tire that came with my Honda. I live in the Northwest. My daughter had a 2 WD Honda Accord with Goodyear Weather Ready tires. The Weather Ready tires out perform the Handcock tires hands down. This is based on actual snow/ ice driving across a mountain pass this winter. Tire Milage & tire expirations are the same. I wouldn’t recommend Handcock tires with winter rated logos.

Great comparison between the AT2 & 3. I’m curious to see actual tests / usage reviews (not general visual opinions) on the AT3, especially in the snow. Seems like the tread blocks are closer on the RF-11 compared to the RF-10; I think the new one looks milder.

Good morning, first of all this is a really good channel and you give good reasoning behind the decisions of your tires so my questions is what would be the best tires for a sprinter van. I need lt215 /85 16. I know this is kinda of a weird size so there aren't that many choices. My main concern isn't offloading but rather the puncture resistance off roading tires provide. I want to be able to go down gavel roads but still have good gas mileage. Also tow about 4000lbs once in awhile. Not necessarily to have snow ratings if they sacrifice the tire wear to get a softer compound for it. But idk. I'm between this ones or the grappler atx

@Campus Automotive Inc Repeat: You touched on the middling mud traction of the Hankook but I don't recall any reference to the mud (or snow) traction of either Toyo. My pending choices are between these two brands and models (Toyo AT3). PLEASE ADVISE ASAP. TY

I just bought a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Mojave and am looking specifically at the Toyo AT3 in a 35/11.50/17 or the Goodyear MTR w/Kevlar in a 275/80/17. Both tires measure almost 35". Common sense tells me to choose the Toyo due to the fact that it is a bit more road biased. And let's be honest, most of us actually do spend more than 50% of our time on solid surfaces. The Toyo for an All Terrain looks assertive, however the GY MTR looks so aggresive. Decisions,, Decisions....

Do the Toyo!

Enjoying the videos. I's like your help deciding on a year-round tire for Utah on a Nissan Xterra. 3 most important things are highway handling, puncture resistance, and snow/rain grip. Noise and treadlife are lower importance (old truck). Rock, mud, and looks are medium priority. I've had yoko g015 and dynapro ATM and both were okay all around but not good enough in rain and moderate snow. Thinking thompson Baja ATZ P3 or yoko at-x. Should I look at Duratrac or an MT instead? My assumption is full muds are more dangerous at 80+ mph in heat if I'm keeping total cost under 800 bucks.. Thanks!

To be honest. Thx for the video. But basically you just said all good of them. And which one you prefer. What comparison? I can’t tell from the video very much. Sound/ comfort?

Just put a set of at3’s on my f-150 it’s been pouring rain. The wet traction difference from the mostly wore AT2 to these was substantial

I appreciate the review! My truck is a 1995 Ford F-150 XL (base model f150) extended cab 2WD and the standard recommended tire is a P235/75/r15 XL. So I need to make sure I end up getting an “XL” rated tire. My 3 main option I am considering are the Hankook Dynapro AT2, Toyo open county at3, and the Falken wild peak at3w. I would say I drive 95% of the time driving on pavement, normal commuting (highway), and the other 5% would be on a dirt road. But for the most part just standard pavement driving. Looking for the AT look but a comfortable and smooth tire, and a tire that will give me good MPG’s. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Either tire will be fine for your application.

I have 19 tacoma trd sport 265/65/17 Was considering the at3 or the hancook. What would be your choice? 95% highway,so don't want any noise if possible.

Love the vids!! I have a 5th gen 4runner that I’m leveling and going to throw some 275’s or 285’s on it. I am back and forth between the KO2’s, Nitto Ridge Grapplers or the new Toyo’s A/T 3’s. I do a lot of driving on and off-road. Weekends are mostly spent at the beaches where there is deep sand and rocks. I’m looking for a great hybrid tire that can handle it all and have an aggressive look. Do you have any recommendations? I appreciate it !!

From my research the KO2’s don’t wear good for hwy use and some say they are hit or miss on all conditions no negatives so far for the AT3

I’m interested in that, too. The Maxxis has the 3PMS rating, but it seems like the Yokohama would be easier to come by.

The AT3 is such a better tire. Toyo proves you can have a very aggressive AT tire while still being great on the road. Now I would regrettably choose Toyo over Hancook, wouldn't be the case with the ATM and Toyo AT2.
