1:42:12, regarding PilotEdge and VATSIM being "hit or miss". A big distinguishing point between the two is that VATSIM has amateur air traffic controllers where as PilotEdge has professional air traffic controllers (not surprisingly, you have to pay for PilotEdge as a service, though).

Does ATC to aircraft pilot radio communications vary on the ground of an airport from airport to airport concerning receipt of IFR clearance on designated frequencies such as Clearance Delivery, Ramp, Ground, Apron and Tower? IFR clearances can be obtained from contact with any of these Air Traffic Control units above dependent on the ATC operational procedures in force at that specific airport. Does the pilot of an Airline have to be trained by the Airline as to which ATC unit to contact to obtain the specific clearance required at each airport?

Just watched this. Great info. Just to clarify - at 49:45 he says Class D is 5nm in diameter. Generally Class D airspace is 4nm in radius / 8nm diameter. I use the VOR compass circles to quickly measure distance. On a sectional they are 20 nm diameter. On the TAC they equal 10nm diameter

Is it common to radio on behalf of an aircraft in the pattern without a radio in an uncontrolled airport? For example a piper cub is ahead of you and entering 45 on downwind and you say "advisory cub entering pattern left midfield downwind"?

Another well done and informative video. Thanks! Question, I was under the impression that when you contact a controller for the first time you give your full call sign and whatever they shorten it to is what you reply with. At the beginning I heard ground say N123AB along with taxi clearance but the pilot reply was just 3AB. Are we ok to arbitrarily shorten the call sign before they do? Thanks again!
