Everyone telling Envoy he had plenty of room to make the turn until finally the ops vehicle tells him he doesn’t have enough room, good on them for sticking up for themselves and not doing something they weren’t comfortable with

Surprised with all the other ideas that ATC didn’t recommend all the passengers get out and push

You could hear him die a little inside at 40 seconds

I can respect when ATC catches himself at 3:32 and clarifies when he realizes his choice of words could have been misinterpreted

This is Delta Tug 2's moment to shine.

Respect for the pilots for not risking a tight turn that could cause even more trouble and/or damage. At such an important position being able to say "no" firmly yet calmly is an essential skill.

Perfect example of an honest mistake. All it cost was time, a bit of fuel, and some humble humiliation. No one got mad. No one yelled. Good way to handle the situation

Working Ops at CVG last year I can tell you this controller is awesome and was always a great time to chat with but, even the best of us make mistakes.

When the guy said “I don’t know what your waiting on” then immediately starts fumbling for a semblance of an apology because he realized how it sounded. That’s happened to me a couple times.

I'd love to be the Envoy pilot if he'd fired up the reversers, ingested FOD and wrecked an engine trying to bail ATC out.

So the Delta tug thinks they can get out there faster than the Envoy tug, huh? Sounds like a good ol' fashioned tug-off to me! Wait...

And once again, despite the screw up and back and forth, I am blown away by the calmness and proffesionalism of pilots and controllers. The rest of the working world could take a lot of good notes from the aviation industry.

I'm surprised that the controller asked them about thrust reversers. As I understand it, many jets and airlines have policies/procedures that preclude them from using reversers below a certain speed (e.g. anything other than slowing down after landing) due to the risks of debris getting sucked into the engines.

Ten hours later......Seriously, controller knew he did wrong but still held it together to try and get this fixed. We're all human and make mistakes. I know that I could never be an ATC. I think ATC was judged to be the most stressful job.

I'm shocked at how well those pilots took it. Everyone screws up at some point. Any controller or pilot claiming they never make mistakes isn't being honest.

Yikes!! Someone in Ground had a brain-fart... The controller must have felt horrible.... excellent professionalism by the pilots.

This could have been prevented if the engines had the ability to rotate 90 degrees and allow for a vertical take off.

God this feels like my trucking days. "You got plenty of room to get into there driver!" Armchair dispatchers telling you what you're able to do.

Good thing the little plane's pilot was confident enough to tell the tower that he was not comfortable moving w/o people on the ground despite ATCs reassurance that everything is clear, when in reality the guy on the ground confirmed there is no space.

Great to see how both pilots co-operated so well and did not pour scorn on the controller for making a blunder.....well done

One night years ago at JFK my captain stopped the taxi, and I asked why. He said “If we go past this intersection then we’ll be trapped by that A340.” Then I realized that he was a real man of genius.

Mistakes will always happen, the ATC has a difficult job. But man the feeling of inconveniencing several hundreds of people at once must suck hard.

Back in the '90's, Northwest's (now part of Delta) standard pushback from the gate in Memphis was thrust reversers. I think I also saw them do that in Minneapolis as well, but I'm not sure.

Someone got a call.

I've seen this happen at KFWA. It had been raining a lot so to get a tug around the aircraft they had to run out and purchase sheets of plywood to lay down in the grass off the taxiway so the tug could drive around the aircraft, total time to undo the nose to nose situation 6 hours. The cargo company awarded the two controllers a golden towbar award which the rest of controllers to thoroughly harass the two offenders.

LGB GND put me in a similar situation, nose to nose with a cargo 767. We didnt say anything and waited for GND to notice, about two long minutes. I was able to turn around since I was in a Cessna.

We all need a tug someday or other… ;)

Now i know why they make ATC towers so high - so when this happens controller can simply open the window and jump to end up is misery.

Looked to me like the Envoy wanted a wing walker to use his reversers to back up a little. He almost used them earlier, but not being able to see past the wings behind him is a huge risk he rightfully didn't want to take.
