Canoe trip down the Athabasca River. Put-in at the town of Whitecourt, and paddled about 350 kms to the town of Athabasca. Late season flows, between 350-380 cms at the Windfall station, and between 425-475 cms at the Athabasca station. September 3-9, 2022. Part 1 of 2. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks very much Greg. That's great to hear, yeah get in as many trips as you can. I did a group trip on the Churchill River in 2016. We paddled from Black Bear Island Lake to Missinippi. It was a wonderful trip, and the fishing was amazing. I hope to get back up there again someday. It's canoeing paradise!! Thanks, take care.

At 7:46 I recognized that high bank on the curve before Fort Assiniboine. I was canoeing with a big group from Blue Ridge to Fort Assiniboine and one pair was hungover, not paying attention and nearly dumped their canoe on that bank.

Yeah there were a few spots with swifter current in that area. The river really slows down after Ft. Assiniboine. Thanks again for watching Dan, take care.

Thank you for your sharing your trips Nick. It’s an invaluable help in planning trips for the upcoming season. Whitecourt to Fort Assiniboine was one night on this trip? We’re there many camping spots along this section of river?

Hello Charles. Yes, I paddled past Ft. Assiniboine in late morning on the second day. The first part of this trip seemed to have some good camping spots. Downstream of Ft. Assiniboine, the river really slows down and camping spots are few and far between. Thanks for watching, take care.

Hey man, loving your videos and subbed! Quick question: can you tell me the difference between your red and yellow clippers?
@nickharland3795
@nickharland3795 13 күн бұрын
Hey thanks very much. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying them. The yellow canoe is a Clipper Prospector 16'. It is good for lakes and rivers, and capable up to moderate whitewater. It can fit a lot of gear and handles nicely. The red canoe is a Mad River M.E. It is a whitewater canoe, very maneuverable, with lots of rocker to handle the waves. It is not a good canoe for paddling on flat, slow moving water. The yellow Clipper is definitely the more versatile of the two. The red Mad River is used for certain, specific trips, usually involving rapids or technical paddling.

@MrSleazymoney 13 күн бұрын
@@nickharland3795 oh wow Ive heard those mad River Me's are the best whitewater canoes out there. I've also heard that they were discontinued in '95 and that thing is mint so I assumed it was a clipper! Thanks for the info!

@nickharland3795

Yeah quite slow, and with the width of the river, it feels like you are not even moving. I'm glad I paddled it, but likely won't do this one again.

Loving the river rip videos! hav enever done the Athabasca river, but I was wondering if you have done the stretch from Hinton to Whitecourt? What is it like, and how long roughly does it take? My buddies and I have done an annual Nordegg to rocky trip in three days 2 nights allotting for some Brierleys adventures. Thanks in advance!

I've paddled the stretch from Hinton to Whitecourt once. It took me 4 days, at a medium flow. There are a couple of class I rapids on the 2nd day, otherwise it is pretty easy paddling. Lots of nice camping in this stretch. Thanks for watching.
