I see no truth in pan-species evolution. The question about how long it would take for Martian colonies to evolve and the stammering of Richard's response is proof that evolution of new species from one species is impossible. To look back in history and spin logically coherent narratives is fine, for a while. Then you see possibilities such as ETs and the building of ancient stone structures and you start to get bored with the whole BigBang-evolution fairy tale. These atheists have entertained me for a time, but I get bored easily. By the way, I'm more than bored with the Bible, in fact it makes me sick to think of all the answers in one book.

Well thats a bit exxageration. According to John Paul II the hell is to be "state of mind post mortem, completely without god". Heaven is described as an opposite state - "to be with god". However whether its a desirable or undesirable state for your post-mortem mind (if is that even a thing) is VERY subjective. New hell is no longer as bad as it used to be... According to head of the catholic church...

'The best cure for religion would be to read the holy books' lol this is exactly how I lost my faith. One day I decided I should probably have read what I so strongly claimed to believe so I read the bible, cover to cover, after I was done I wasn't a Christian anymore haha and the journey from Theist to Deist to Agnostic to Athiest didn't take more than maybe a year after that.

What did you have faith in? It wasn't the God of the Bible. Sounds like you had faith in faith, and now you still have faith just redirected and misplaced. Even there it ends in NOWHERE...so whats the point? If life just ends in death then your whole statement is meaningless, and so is life. So why comment at all?

Natasha Witekauha I beg to differ. He is very intelligent, very charismatic, and quite convincing. The problem he has nothing of substance to say, and his ego is out of control. Reminds me of Osho, the cult leader, and perhaps the most charismatic preacher ever. But it is dangerous to feed the ego of a guy like that, especially when petersen is loading up on a gallon of SSRI drugs a day. His first recommendation as a clinical psychologist, for depression is antidepressants, he's said it multiple times. Not diet, not exercise, not lifestyle, not weed, but pharmaceuticals. Those drugs those only feed the ego even more, when you are happy no matter what, you don't have the same self check that the brains natural reward/punishment centers give you. In combination with his exploding popularity, soon he will be opening a compound for only his wealthiest donors to spread the message of alternative truth.

1:16:12 Actually Tibetans chop up their dead loved ones and feed them to vultures. They call it burial by sky. Of course, with Kant's categorical imperative in mind, it's not the kind of exit one could wish to become popular.

Actually trying to make sense of the doctrine I was being told to live my life by allowed me to see the hypocrisies in said doctrine, addressing said hypocrisies caused my elders to consider me an exhausting variant in the church/Sunday school, and treat me as less simply because I was pointing out how nonsensical their answers to my questions were. This made me more curious than I already was, and that curiosity lead me to explore Atheism, Atheism taught me the importance of critical thinking, critical thinking lead me to value truth and reason more than subjective feelings, valuing truth and reason more than feelings caused me to follow evidence to wherever it lead instead of where I would like it to lead, and following said evidence lead me to a genuine understanding of the world happening around us, and that genuine understanding taught me how much I'we really don't know, as well taught me how important it is to be able to accept what we don't know as something to be learned. I wonder id theism has ever lead anyone to a unwanted truth that amounts to a better working knowledge on the world happening right now. I only took the time/effort to type that for self serving relief,(relief rant) and I know that there's nothing profound being said. Therapeutic.

My understanding is he was in the middle of deconversion and happened to come across the atheist experience tv show and called in, like every other caller. His first interaction with AXP was as a normal theist caller. Yadda-yadda-yadda he's on the stage with Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris.

It’s interesting how Richard Dawkins has mentioned animal rights several times in his interviews, (check out his illuminating Big Think podcast “Yes Animals Feel Pain Too”), where he discusses the morality of factory farming. However, I’ve yet to see him tackle the issue of Vivisection.

I really liked the first part of the video, where they discussed topics among each other. When it came to the Q&A part, though, I felt a lot of the questions weren't answered or even correctly addressed. Among them was the incest question. Granted, siblings having a relationship with no children may not be a huge problem, but what about parent-child or uncle/aunt-niece/nephew marriages? They seem abusive on several levels, not just regarding offspring. The other question was about criticizing ideas vs. criticizing people. As the questioner pointed out, the distinction is correct but it is also not entirely wrong if people take criticism of the ideas personally because people's actions and convictions are in some way influenced by those ideas. It's not that the ideas float around isolated and are completely separated from actions. People being able to change later on doesn't address the issue because while they are still advocates of those ideas, their actions are influenced by them, even if it doesn't always mean to the fullest extent. About finding meaning in life as an atheist, I'm with Sam Harris here. I guess helping move the community and humanity forward to provide a better place for future generations could be such a reason where you find meaning in life without indulging in fairy tales.

Blossoming Reason What's the problem with non-coercive sex among generations who consent if breeding is contracepted? Why do you fantasize that sex is somehow "abusive" when consensual? You are the kind who fancies that all sex is somehow abusive and requires prior sanction by law or religion.

The issue with these kinds of debates in youtube is that the people who watch them already agree with them. If I could convince my religious friends to watch this with interest and open mind, I'm sure they would start questioning their beliefs.

"The issue..." ?? Listening to people who spend years of their lives refining their public speaking skills and arguments is of great benefit to anyone interested in doing the same. It's also incredibly useful for those who wish to capably present these arguments/perspectives to anyone who is not already on board with the ideas and positions presented by these speakers. Cool thing is, if you don't get anything out of these videos, you simply opt not to watch them - and yet they can still be of great value to others - even if they are "the choir!" to whom the speakers are "preaching." 😊

When dealing with personal beliefs, it is definitely a gradual process that doesn't happen by facts and logic alone. It seems to require being driven by a personal emotion. I personally had a lot of resent and was so happy to convince myself over weeks and weeks of learning the history of religion and vids from Hitchens popped up first. Like it has to be the person's idea LoL but KZfaq convinced me. The internet is full of KNOWLEDGE. KNOWLEDGE AND THE WILLINGNESS TO.LEARN IS THE VERY MOST IMPORTANT THING IN A HUMAN LIFE.

I would argue that if you haven't seen or heard it before, it can still be relevant, depending on the substance of the material. Thus great art, such as masterworks of black and white, silent films can still be relevant to people interested in film, especially if they haven't seen the film before and gleaned meaning from it. However, in the case of Sam Harris with Jordan Peterson in Vancouver, it's different. Many of us were anxiously waiting to see that for so long that someone leaked a terrible audio version of it, so we were finally able to hear it, but not to see it, and we had to hear it in bad quality audio at that. So by the time the video with clean audio was released, we had already heard the talk, and we heard a very poor version of it at that. In that case, the video had become irrelevant, because we had already heard it.
