But Arachne had zero attention towards what her audience wanted to see and that is the most important thing for any artist because the final judge of the artist's work is their audience. Athena as the Goddess of Arts knew this as well and even tho she's just acting as Zeus' most loyal minion to gain his favour,She really wouldn't want a visual depiction of her father dropping his Godly dignity to bang mortal women. So it's kinda reasonable for her to do what she did even turning Arachne into a spider is reasonable cuz she *did* let her one standout speciality after transforming her into a spider.

Regardless of version, the initial reason Athena came was because the girl said her talent was hers. I do not, for the life of me, see what is wrong with that. It's not like Athena created humans. Yes in the myth she taught them to weave, but the development of the skill was due to the girl alone. Athena was just abusing her power. As most deities do.

I would like to point out that this myth and the myth of Medusa have multiple interpretations both have an interpretation by ovid where Athena punishes them either for her jealousy or her anger at someone else entirely some of the older interpretations of these myths say that arachne's work was equivalent to Athena's in beauty but the subject matter offended her and when Athena gave her criticism she attempted to hang herself Athena then took pity and transformed her into a spider, in older stories of Medusa she was born a gorgon and was always a monster. Ovid really didn't like authority (political or divine) and so attempted to undermine it even in his works thus depictions of usually level headed gods like Athena being portrayed so negatively.

Every Greek myth has multiple versions but I've never heard of zeus doing anything as arachnes purpose is to directly challenge a particular singular trait Athena has. She isn't showing hubris by challenging zeus saying her craft is better than the gods she's showing hubris toward athena. Also athena has a few tales where she reacts quite unbecoming of a God tied to wisdom harms a mortal in some way then feels bad about it later.

This was made by a Roman, he wanted to make this version make Athena look bad. In the original, Poseidon punished her and she later killed herself, but then Athena revived Arachne, turning her into a spider saying how her weaving skills won’t go to waste.

I think the moral of the story isn’t that you can’t be as great as the gods, you definitely can. The trick is to be humble about it, not only because it’s a gracious thing to do and generally makes people like you, but so as to make sure you don’t offend people in higher positions of authority, people who may be less skilled than you but have power you don’t and will attempt to hurt you over their bruised ego at any perceived vanity in your part.

To be truthful, Arachne is the one who should be reevaluated. Everyone all disparages Arachne is arrogant, but that is human nature. Arachne is not arrogant. Humans are free to display their own prowess. She is a brave human who knows the wisest way to show up gods' evil act. In fact gods in mythology are the evil trashes who tyrannizes innocent human beings.
