In my opinion, Athena took advantage of the situation to exact her revenge on Medusa for taking away her followers. The fact that she refused to hear the girl's side of the story, proves that the goddess wasn't as wise as she wanted others to think. The Olympian gods were always jealous when humans worshiped other humans instead of them. Another example is Aphrodite's rage towards Psyche.

This version was more of the times of Rome. The original story was of 3 Gorgons, sisters of the Graeae. The whole Poseidon and Athena thing came later. Originally they were born monsters, 2 immortal, one (medusa) not. They were known as deadly hideous monstrous women who turned men to stone just by sight if looked upon (not just eye contact), if you physically saw one with your own eyes, you were turned to stone. The mirror loophole worked.

The original version of the Medusa myth states that she was born from Phorcys and Ceto as a Gorgon from the start, along with her other two Gorgon sisters. The version everyone keeps spreading and erroneously calling the "canon" one was invented centuries later by the Roman poet Ovid, which is why there are so many inconsistencies and plot holes, especially everything about Athena (or in this case, Minerva). He used figures such as Medusa, Arachne, Callisto and others to portray the gods (i.e. the emperor Augustus) as fickle, vengeful, cruel and irrational beings, even more so than their Greek counterparts. He reimagined them as abusive because that's how he perceived the Roman politics of his time, and he REALLY didn't like Augustus. Being banished by him only exasperated the issue. The Arachne myth also has a very unusual and jarring depiction of Athena/Minerva, where she gets uncharacteristically salty when she loses the weaving competition - thus proceeding to punish her opponent into a spider out of sheer spite and poor sportsmanship, another alteration from the original story which completely changes the point of the story. I get that this is still considered a version of the same myth but don't just ignore the original it had come from. For a channel focused on these stories you should know better.

While Poseidon is *clearly* at fault for this atrocity bestowed upon poor Medusa, Athena proves herself unworthy of the moniker of "wisdom." How do you blame the victim of anything and just let the guilty party walk away free? Unless Athena said, "Poseidon is my uncle and Zeus would exempt him." plot armor, then she's just a bad deity. I can't believe I'm saying this but, Aphrodite is a better goddess than Athena. If Medusa chose her, then at least she could've lived her life happily.

Ok to be clear this is only another story of Medusa. In the previous stories she was always a gorgon but in the Hesiod she actually seduced Poseidon.

In my opinion, there was no way to get revenge on posieden. The only thing the goddess could do is give her a power, so power to go against any person who looks at her. And in the end, serves her faithfully on her shield, as her most loyal subject confronting every obstacle together.

A tragic and cruel undeserved fate. A betrayal of trust. But if I recall correctly the gods couldn't punish each other out right. But her fate was unjustified.

In Greek myth, it was never said she was born as a human. 95% of this video is just… made up and doesn’t exist in any myth. Why would you peddle your own story as Greek myth?? Also, no author ever said she was a priestess of Athena, not even Ovid. Again, no basis in any Greek myth. I’m really disappointed you based this video on a story written by a Roman who had an agenda, and not on actual Greek myth. It’s deceiving to your viewers. And to anyone who says “but different versions can exist and myth is evolving”. That doesn’t mean anyone can create new myths, at any time - myths are reflective of the cultural and religious beliefs, with influence of historical events sometimes, of the people who wrote them. They aren’t just fanciful stories. Ovid hated Greeks, and he hated the authorities in Rome that punished him - his story about Medusa was a way to express that anger, and the kicker? He explained her story in maybe two lines, so even he didn’t care about her at all, he just wanted a vehicle for his anger.
