Couldn't disagree more on the looks. I think this is a gorgeous production that looks beautiful on the table. Gives off a great mystical/fantasy vibe. The component holders are really nice too. Very solid and help to make organization easy during the game and during clean up. Love this game.

I like this one much better than Ex Libris - the card drafting is far more satisfying than the confusing,, jumbled worker placement in that game.

This game is fantastic. If you like Lanterns from Renegade the drafting/placement feels similar. This is a light fast - fun puzzle. I like it so much I created a solo variant to try to play even on my own.

What a nice theme.

I really like the theme of this one - one of my Invisible Sun players actually plays a fantasy librarian! - but I think I'll take a look at Ex Libris before I decide if I get anything. I actually really love the "your opponent(s) get something too" mechanic in games - Fort being the first example that comes to mind - but I think it needs to be paired with a lot of different options to really work well, and I suppose it's not here. That said I wouldn't turn down giving this a try! Maybe at a con once they come back. Nice to hear it's being added to the library.

I totally agree with Tom. I moved the game on after half a dozen plays. We felt like it was fully played by then.

From the cover you'd never guess the aesthetic of the game on the table. There certainly is some push and pull between wanting to be clear and not having boring art. But the color choices just don't seem to work together, despite me not having a problem with any particular color. The backgrounds don't really carry you in to a world. The graphic design feels spartan rather than minimal.

Looking again, I think maybe the problem is there is just no sense of depth. It's like going in to a 3D modelling program with no light sources, just a universal ambient light set.

It does seem like it may be a bit light and chaotic for more than two, but from what I understand the two-player variant(where the other player gets both the items on the card you pick) might push it up a bit in terms of strategy; Tom didn't mention if he'd tried it or not. That being said, I would like to try this, but I also don't think I'll be actively seeking out a copy either.

I think this captured well why I like Ex Libris better while my kids prefer Athenaeum. It seems heavy, but it's pretty darn light.

No one was surprised Tom doesn’t like the spiders.

I enjoyed playing this game and have added a copy to my library. As is pointed out by others, Atheneum is lighter than Ex Libris -- I consider this a good thing as I'm sure that Atheneum will be a good experience when introducing to non-gamers or casual players; rules are easy to explain and gameplay goes quickly. While I would agree that the spiders to too darn small and that the choice of imagery on the cards is mediocre, I find the overall color palate and aesthetic to be thematically appropriate.

Almost bought this one based on the theme alone. After some research on reviews and videos I was concerned about the very things Tom mentioned. Glad I let this one pass.

Agreed about the art.

One of my favorite things about Ex Libris is that the book titles actually matter due to the alphabetization element of the game. The fact that the titles mean nothing in this game really turns me off from it.

The rolling objectives are probably my biggest issue with this game

Totally off-putting looks of the cards and a theme about tidying a shelf with a random kingmaker element. Thanks for the review Tom, it saved me money for sure.

Enjoyed the review Tom, thank you for cutting through the hype and love this game has. This game like many others "suffers" from cult-of-the-new.

Totally agree with Tom, its a decent game but a bit boring for me..a few plays and no desire to buy it at all. Didn't get all that excitement from Rahdo on hes review. Ex Libris was much better and unique game.

I’m not usually big on aesthetics, but those cards are so ugly. They look half finished. Even if I was considering buying the game, those cards might be enough to make me pass on it
