After many, many requests, I finally have the ATL Plane Train on my list of airports. This system is the busiest airport train system in the world carrying around 60 million passengers per year. It has 8 stations and serves all 7 concourses on the secure side of the airport, plus a separate station for the baggage claim. The system uses Bombardier APM-100 vehicles, 59 of them. They travel at a max speed of 30 MPH.

I've done the round trip myself! It's a great system. ATL could not function without it.

Most definitely, I really like ATL's train system. I also did a video of the walk from Concourse F to Concourse T and the time and distance would not be feasible for most people to walk.

Ever notice how they use the military designation for each letter (Alpha, Bravo, etc.) except for Concourse D? They use David instead of Delta. I'm sure it's just so they don't confuse people.

I could swear I replied to you months ago, but you're absolutely right about that. They did not do "D as in Delta" to prevent people from thinking Concourse D was for Delta Airlines.

Yes, as does ATC in Atlanta. They use “Dixie” for taxiway D instead of Delta.

Max speed 27 MPH to be exact according to Bombardier staff

Strange that they'd operate these slower than the vehicle model's max operating speed. Typically it's 33 to 35 mph.

The one difference is in Atlanta you have a second option to walk that is not possible in Denver.

The down escalator the narrator was wondering about might be for an auxiliary security checkpoint. Pittsburgh has a similar layout, where you walk a sky bridge to an alternate security area, then go down a different escalator.

It's time ATL used a locally-based phonetic alphabet. T as in Tybee A as in Alpharetta B as in Braselton C as in Cumming 😂 D as in Doraville E as in East Point F as in Fulton

Can you film off Pittsburgh Ones, they're one of the best and will be removed soon for airport renovation! It's worth seeing them in real life.

Pittsburgh International Airport being reduced in size by 50% due to the city is actually shrinking. Massive population decline. Entire landside terminal being removed. Word has it that they are also considering abandonment of their Light Rail system that goes to one of their suburbs.

@@joestewart8914 It's not really a reduction, it's a renovation. The landside building is being replaced by a new one.

I’ll tell you why there’s a down escalator there at the domestic baggage claim because that’s the way for if you wanna walk to the domestic baggage claim. Because at T gates, there’s a escalator that goes up and then there’s a passageway and then there’s that escalator that goes down.

I just thought about that while rewatching this video, noticed it has the old headlights. I had previously thought they got rid of all of those vehicles. Denver Airport's system was the last C-100 system built and the only one currently mostly comprised of those vehicles, at least until summer 2023. They're supposedly switching to APM-300R vehicles.
@gradientgamer5480
@gradientgamer5480 Жыл бұрын
@@ElevatingDenver Regarding the westies, They did decommissioned all of them for a while. i believe (2006 - 2012). at the time of the Concourse F expansion, they got new APM-100's and the recommissioned the old C-100s. In regards to the 2023 expansion. i really dont know if they are gonna replace the apm 100s. and as far as i know, the current expansion is really a switch at the back of the Domestic terminal. i didnt hear that they will replace the entire fleet with 300r. i think it will be an addition. if the 300R's can run on the original infastructure
@ElevatingDenver
@ElevatingDenver Жыл бұрын
@@gradientgamer5480 I don't think ATL will be replacing their vehicles, but the reason Denver Airport needs the new APM-300 is because they're planning on extending the trains to being 6 cars long in the near future. The current trains apparently can only be 4 long.

@@ElevatingDenver i think you can with the Apm 100's they just have to update the controls similar to what ATL did with the original Westies
