An arcade that rigs their machines so that nobody can ever win will eventually lose it's clientele and slowly go out of business...which explains why there was almost nobody at that arcade.

At what point can an arcade be reported for scamming people? Because this feels like the kind of arcade you'd report for scamming people.

This is the type of experience I had over and over again as a kid. It took all the joy out of arcades. I remember I went to this mom and pop grocery store and ACTUALLY won a prize. The claw actually grabbed items. Best day of my childhood for a while. These companies are way too greedy over a bunch of 50 cent stuffed animals.

As someone who used to program those machines,I'm telling you,you'll go broke before you'll get an apple watch or a ps controller. The machines are usually programmed so that, the prize goes out when a certain price for a prize,that has been set by someone like me(sorry people) is reached. And the price is calculated by the buying price. Usually a plush would cost 5 times the normal price which usually is between a couple of cents and 2 dollars,so you'd be able to get it for 5$ while an apple watch or a ps controller,the price for it in the machine would be 10 times the normal store price. So if a ps controller costs 50$ in a store or online, you'd have to throw 500$ into that machine to get it. Plushies prices are usually 3 to 7 times the buying price and electronics 10 times the buying price. Until the set price is reached,the claw will be almost kinda' limp trying to pick the thing up. And if you ever won a prize,you can see the difference between how it normally grabs a win versus how it grabs a loss. Don't play them, you're welcome. 😂

Atlantic City: where fun comes to die

As a resident who grew up in the state, Atlantic City is by far one of the worst for stuff like this. Places like this one deserve to be shut down as its primarily a tourist trap. The only good you'll get around that area is the tax free clothing and fishing in the ocean can be very well worth it.

IVE BEEN THERE BEFORE! Couldnt get a single prize from the machines, and the prize room is practically empty. Also, the one thing i liked was their pokemon cards you can buy from a vending machine. Nope, BROKEN. And when we asked "Hey, is this gonna be fixed anytime soon?" And the guy told us no, but he did tell us its probably just not plugged in, but they wouldnt plug it in either.

Those claw machines buy the stuffed animals for like 15 cents, charge $2.00 per play, yet still rig it to never let the player win. They could literally let someone win every time and still make money but they don’t. They’re a total scam.

In the 90s I watched an episode of something on Nickelodeon. It was a kid explaining how to beat the claw machine every time. You cannot find this video anywhere online, trust me I have checked. But if you watched this episode you instantly became a claw master. I can literally win every single time as long as the machine isn’t rigged. He even teaches you how to tell if the machine is rigged!

It would be nice if these "offline" gambling machines had to comply with online gambling with loot boxes and actually show odds of winning.

I remember I used to win regularly at claw machines when they actually grabbed the item. Now they don’t even make an attempt at grabbing and are rigged for losing. I don’t play them anymore unless I see someone else play it and can judge if the grip strength is fair or not. This has led to an overwhelming majority of claw machines being virtually unplayable.

My brother owned an arcade in the 70’s./80’s, hes a master at the claw machine. If the prizes are super packed together or weighted he can pretty much get anything out of them. He also became a world champ in foosball simply because he spent ten years if his youth doing nothing but playing foo’s in that arcade.

My local arcade used to have a rubber duck claw machine that was guaranteed to win everytime. Didn't get a duck? It let you keep going until you did. We usually got 20-30 ducks each time we went and they eventually removed it.

I remember my brother going to an arcade and he didn’t really spend any of the money on the card and decided to spend it all on a cut machine quickly before he left. His timing was perfect nearly every single time and the rope was really frayed, but nothing came of it. Like it makes you feel like it’s a skill based game, but it’s more like you gotta wait for hundreds of people to Frey the rope enough for the dull weak knife to make a difference.

I actually put together claw machines and cut to win. Claw machines are programmed to have a certain amount of wins per day and they are set at random on settings. At the factory im at, we set them to 20 a day. And the strong claw setting is brought down from 40volts to 30

Fact of the matter is, if a claw machine seems rigged, IT'S RIGGED. They can change the strength of the claw whenever they want and make it easier or harder for the customers to win a prize.

You can tell how well the machines will do by seeing how many attendants (if in an arcade) are even walking around. They’re all tucked behind the counters because they aren’t restocking the machines, they’re just handing out ticket wins lol Go to truck stop/plaza arcades, those claw machines usually work.

Claw machines can be set to how often they will grab the item. Most of the time they will pick it up every 10th go, but if your not on the item on the 10th go you have to try another 10times. Average win rate is like 1in30. But they will be set to however expensive the prize is.

Claw games have two mechanisms to set how many people can win. They are scammy AF. One mechanism sets how many turns the machine takes before it actually puts enough power behind the claw to pick something up. Most of the time the claw doesn’t even close with enough force to pick up a sheet of paper. Next mechanism lets you set the strength of the claw. So you can set it up so it never closes with enough force to actually pick anything up

You do realize these machines have a power supply that controls exactly how strong the grip is on the machine, and that there is an algorithm that deturmines when someone will be able to win.

From what I heard with claw machines, they do technically scam the players. As you clearly saw with the koolaid and bootleg minecraft plushies, you can see the claw wrap around it 100% but slips off when it goes up. I think as you pay more, the grip on the machine tightens to later guarantee you a prize but I think most machines differ on how many tries before the claw actually holds something

I worked on a fair/arcade when u was younger and i learnt alot of the tricks and ways you can win fpr alot of machines (bandits all have random button presses to make them pay out. One i remember is 1,2,3,2,3,2,3,1,3 on the hold buttons will reset a maygay machine and male it pay out) but the claws are all cash motivated, they wont grip anything until a certain amount of cash has been put in it, somtimes you get lucky and your 1st coin does it but ive seen people put 100s in and get nothing before

I am a master of the claw machine! I can usually win on just about any machine with less than five dollars. I’ve been to Atlantic City hundreds of times as a kid growing up in Philadelphia. I was there every summer stuck in the arcades while the grown-ups went to gamble. I definitely won prizes in the claw machines in Atlantic City throughout the years, but I had to look for mistakes. Items placed in the machines at the wrong angle stuff, bunched up in the corners. This guy is 100% right though, almost all the claw machines in Atlantic City are rigged for failure.
