Wow i never relized they set em so close together the hooks seem like there 5 or 10 fathoms apart

Cod fishing they were 1 fathom, halibut they were 3 fathoms

I have a lot of respect for these guys. They really work their tails off, and dangerous too. Does anyone know how much they get paid? I wouldn't be surprised if it's not all that much, considering what they have to go through. The weather looked pretty cooperative on this trip, but I imagine that's not always the case either.

The end they show The Loran--C so this is the 80s for sure because we started using GPS by 1990 dot-dot-dot for navigation case anyone doesn't know

Tough way to make a living. Lots of ways to get hurt. Hard on the back. The video is 30 yrs old. One wonders what shape those fisherman are in now, if they're even alive. Nobody works as hard as fishermen.

I did it under New Bedford started earlier than that and I'm still alive, I'm 62 and working in the oilfield, without a pain in my body and work with 30 year old men all day long

Wiping out there livelihood. So sad. Their kids could still be making money and owning boats if they fished sustainably.

It wasn't the hook and line boats that destroyed the Grand banks.

Archival stuff, shame some of the kids here only see boredom and not what has changed in thirty years. Get a better grip on the past to see the way forward. The gen Ys know so little about work, ethics and values.
