First I want to say Kida is the best freakin Disney Princess turned Queen. She is over 8,500 years old, but looks like she is only in her 20's, knows every language, strong, funny, and saved her entire civilization take that Elsa!!! he reason it failed was because of Dinosaur. It wasn't the hit Disney hoped for so they slashed the budget of Atlantis so they had to condense the originally planned 155 minute version by dropping the 2nd act, cutting a bigger final battle, and the reveal of the crystal being of alien origin. Then since Atlantis bombed Disney cancelled the planned tv series which would have had a crossover with Gargoyles!!!

I don't think I've ever seen an animated movie that long. Laputa Castle in the Sky was 124 minutes, had a similar plot and I felt like it was quite long for an animated movie.

@limerence8365 Well according the list of longest animated films the notable ones: 140 minutes- Across the Spider-Verse, 134 minutes- Princess Monooke, 132 minutes Bakshi's Lord of the Rings, 126 minutes Fantasia, with the longest film In This Corner of the World being 168 minutes long

There are some excellent one-liner jokes in animated films that truly shine based on the delivery from the voice actor behind the scenes. “I swim pretty girl” is my absolute favorite. Michael J. Fox brings Milo’s entire essence into that moment. You see the change. Jeb, the ho ho ho joke was fantastic! And your voice for Whitmore is awesome. Since you brought up the stealing… Disney actually stole from itself. Aladdin and the King of Thieves aka Aladdin 3 has the subplot of the mysterious moving island protected by the sea that houses a treasure, a man who spent his life looking for that treasure, and the villain dying from contact with that treasure during a fight with the hero where the treasure is used like a weapon. There is even an allusion to A3 in the scene where the crew meets the Atlanteans: “Commander, there were not supposed to be people down here. This changes everything.” “It changes nothing.” The island in A3 was empty. Had it not been… we’d have an entirely different perspective to tell the story… Which is exactly what Atlantis: The Lost Empire ran with. And created a great movie.

Disney didn't steal from themselves as King of Thieves is about the lead meeting up with his long lost father going on a treasure hunt together hoping to find it before the bad guys do. That's Last Crusade.

@@jamesmoyner7499 That’s a fair point, but my story parameters were specifically about an island guarded by the sea. That’s not in The Last Crusade. It is a huge part of Aladdin and the King of Thieves though. But yes, if you ignore the island guarded by the sea part of the story then yes, Last Crusade and a slew of other action films would fit. I also mention the treasure being used by the hero as a weapon… also not in The Last Crusade. The Holy Grail does kill someone, but Indy has nothing to do with it.

Does anybody agree that this is an animated version of Stargate? Alot of the plot points and and even characters are the same. Just switch out Atlantis or alien planet. Both have the main character being laughed at for his theories and get called to a secret project. They find out people actually live there and someone says "this changes things" and "this changes nothing". The leader has a secret mission and the main character has to stop him.

No because one is a good movie and the other is by Roland Emmerich. Also stories of Atlantis have been around for thousands of years while Stargate was a stolen idea from a Native American and that film said Aliens built the pyramids and the ruler of the known universe is the chick with the d*$k from the Crying Game. Nah Atlantis is more original.

You think Atlantis and Avatar follow a similar plotline? You should look at Blue Byte's game Albion. 😂 And not mentioning Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water is kind of rude.

The creators never heard of Nadia until after the film came out. Also it says Nadia was inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. So there is no correlation between Atlantis and that.

@@jamesmoyner7499 Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less, I just wanted to mention that there are always other types of media with very similar imagery. Like a large interstellar mining vessel on route to a planet (in part) inhabited by feline humanoids who create their infrastructure out of plants. The studios didn't want to go to court, we just have to make up our minds for ourselves. You say 'no relation' and I say 'strange it happened multiple times'.
