Cyril Karn is that character where you wonder "Why are you like this?" And then one breakfast talk with his mom later, you realize "Oh that's why."

Yes the Karn family situation was so good haha and it was a great mirror to the dynamic between Maarva and Cassian. Wonderful commentary on parenthood layered into a show about how peoples environment drives them to rebellion.

Gilroy also stopped production of Season 2 of Andor to stand with the workers in the writers strike. I’m a little bit disappointed, but it’s dwarfed by the pride I feel for the creator of a show with so much Marxist messaging to stand up for what he believes in. I really like how Andor worked to show how and why the Empire was bad beyond just telling us the Empire is bad. The ISB was done very well too, loved seeing an enemy force that was competent. Like, yeah the ISB kinda loses in the end but not because they were stupid. Lastly it was nice seeing physical sets again, and how they embraced the 1970's sci-fi aesthetic. It really feels like you wouldn't be able to tell this was made 40+ years after if they added the correct video and sound filters.
@override367
@override367 11 ай бұрын
the best part is they show us that the empire isn't some nebulous amorphous thing, the empire is *PEOPLE*, sometimes it's your neighbors. The easy thing is to get a job with a uniform with an imperial logo on it and sit in a cubicle and say "I don't talk about politics" whenever anyone mentions an atrocity. MOST people would do this.

Nemik's speech in particular gave me chills: There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.

Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I’ve given up all chance at inner peace. I’ve made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there’s only one conclusion, I’m damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight, they’ve set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my sacrifice? I’m condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else’s future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything!

I studied some Russian history, just the course of the Russian empire and it's eventual fall to the Bolsheviks, and it was very interesting to feel themes of the Russian Revolution's struggle cross over with Andor. Andor is a FANTASTIC series. If you haven’t seen it, you are doing yourself a disservice.

This show is in my Top 10 of all time, and I was dreading its release. It just makes me sad, thinking of the Star Wars sequel trilogy we could have had.

That's the thing... real legit Star Wars universe fans are the majority grown ups. We needed this show more than anything, the world building, the writing, the complexity put on how the Rebels started and how terrifying the Empire can be. Its amazing. A show that respect its viewers. I want more of this universe like this ASAP!

There already is one. Disney threw it away and called it “Legends”.

Star Wars has always been for children. It’s the same story over and over. Adults watch Star Trek.

@@suneelj93 Two different beasts. And after the clear quality of Andor you still have this opinion? Well, at this point its a just a choice or ignorance. Andor just proved it can clearly be successful in different ways.

@@suneelj93 No, I have never liked Star Trek. Probably because of its theatricality. .

@@GuiiBrazil Star Wars started in 1977. Congrats on making something good for adults finally in the year 2022.

The first two episodes didn't manage to catch me and my friends at all. So we ditched it. Terrible beginning for a supposed "great show".

@PhobosDDeimos That's too bad. I guess the show isn't for everyone, and that's okay. I think you are definitely missing out, but it's not my business to decide what shows you do or don't like.

I hope that Disney takes the right message from Andor's praise: we want character driven stories, not dark and edgy stories.

Since it was made by the same people who did Rogue One I knew it had a chance of being good. Rogue One has been the only decent SW movie Disney has managed to make.

by being better and being more dynamic than the actual show was? What could have been told within a span of one movie was stretched for 12 episodes\8 hours.

The Empire probably could have turned so many people to their side before they triggered that war by turning over that droid if they offered people the incentive of occasionally flavored food and water tubes that were located right next to their beds.
