In this video I go over my experience processing some wood and using the Atlas 80V 18" cordless chainsaw at home after purchasing this particular unit all the way back in March when they first came out. Harbor Freight doesn't have a great track record for battery operated tools but lately they have really stepped up their game. This particular unit has far impressed me and has cut many many logs and has given me no real issues besides when the batteries get cold.

Deffinetely one of my fears for me. The battery backs are rebuild able though even if you can't buy new ones. There's companies that will do it.

Yes, I have thought about that. I left mine out in a cold shed over the winter and that trashed them I guess. Both batteries do the same you put them on the charger and it flashes a code for bad battery. Other than that I loved it.@@diytito8165

Hang them by the bar handle down. All chainsaws leak, the oiler is what leaks, not a bad seal or anything wrong.

@@diytito8165 I remember our saws leaking some. So guess it depends on what you are considering leaking. Leaving a sticky mess, yeah that I've seen lots. Completely draining the oil in a matter a couple hours or days, nope that's nothing I've seen either. Cut a lot of firewood when I was younger so not an expert but fairly familiar with the orange and red saws at least. Not had any real experience with Stihl, Poulan, or Homelite. Owned one of each of the last two and wasn't a fan, but I got them used so who knows how they were treated prior. Also not any real experience with a new saw. The saws I have experience with were worked hard machines and probably past their prime. I've an orange saw in my garage and I can't complain about it. It runs good, cuts good, and despite it being sometimes years between uses hasn't let me down yet. Do you think that Atlas saw would take a 20-24" bar? I need to cut down a pretty decent sized tree and I know my Husqvarna is too small. Cut down one smaller than it a couple years ago with the Husky and had to cut from both sides, I don't like do that. I think I have an 18" bar on it now and that's all it will handle. An electric saw that would handle that size bar and doesn't break the bank would be perfect. Have a feeling I could buy a new saw for what it would cost me to have someone else drop the tree and it is well within my wheelhouse.

You’re talking harbor freight power tools of 6-7 years ago. The Hercules line is top notch and uses Samsung battery cells. Been using atlas for 2 years and no problems at all. The 80V chain saw isn’t going to cut cords of wood in a day or do anything serious. It’s great for what it is. Home owner stuff. For serious work I don’t think battery power stuff is there yet not to mention a 5 gallon gas can is way more handy when you’re on the back 40 than a charger back in the garage. I have 2 farm bosses that I use for cutting fire wood or if I’m away from the house. But boy is the atlas handy for quick jobs.

@DIYTito, How is that Oregon replacement chain holding up? I just mangled the original chain on my Atlas 80v (which did a great job of taking down a large Pine tree, last fall), and found a company that claims that their Oregon 90PX062 replacement chain (at $24 on sale, normally $30) is the right one for the Atlas. On Amazon, that chain number doesn't come up, but the Oregon S62 you tried does, for $10 less and one day prime shipping. I'd obviously like the less expensive chain if you've found that it does the job. Thanks, in advance, for answering this question!

btw most brand names dont mean crap anymore. MANY brands that started off as unique brands have long ago been sold and now are just bait names ....like Schwinn bikes and Coleman etc etc ....now simply names used to sell stuff made in China or where ever but people continue to love to think the name means quality ...having said that I did buy Oregon brand chains on A,mazon and they last as long as the next but I bought the cheapest chains that had decent reviews I dont care which brand on the package

have you seen any info on a replacement bar for these ? i bought one of these last year and have ruined 3 chains so far.the original and 2 cheap Trilink chains. it wont keep the chain on the bar. when it throws the chain it will mess up the drive teeth so they wont fit back in to the bar. . i wanted to try a new bar to see if that helps. i just dont know what bar is compatible.

Was just heavy using mine in the deep cold and the saw stopped. 2 bars showed on battery. Put battery on charger and wouldnt charge. Noticed battery felt warm so put it outside. Just went outside and the saw works again. Calling this saw commercial grade is not proper. My saw and battery has only seen light use until today. The battery gets warm and then the saw quits. The saw is only as good as its battery. Commercial grade should work until needing to be charged in my opinion. At least it didnt burst into flames. Doesnt leak oil but cap is pretty tough to unscrew and with the flip up plastic handle on the cap, Im pretty sure its going to break eventually. This is a quiet easy to use residential unit. Jobsite laughable.

@TacticalN8 - Your disappointment at "Commercial grade" rank for a chainsaw under $200 dollars is funny! Maybe you should take a look at "Commercial grade" chainsaws and then fork out the appropriate amount of coin! This chainsaw is OBVIOUSLY NOT targeted at "Commercial" use, but the DIY property owners that can NOT JUSTIFY buying "Commercial grade"! Your FIRST CLUE should have been the PRICE! Your SECOND CLUE? CORDLESS!!! I plan to go pick up THIS SAW TODAY! NOT because it is "Commercial grade" for under $200 bucks, but it APPEARS (from ample reviews) to be better VALUE for THIS homeowner who does NOT NEED "Commercial grade"!

8:50 - How the HELL? I've been fucking with the chain and cannot, for the life of me, get it back on at ALL, even with the tensioner drawn all the way back. I can either get it over the tip of the bar, whereupon it will not go over the spindle, or I get it over the spindle and it will not round the tip of the bar... and if I try to get it over spindle and bar tip the bar will *NOT* fit over the tensioner peg whatsoever. The guide teeth fit in the bar OK, a couple needed filing. WTF is going on??? And is there some device to service the guide teeth? I've had problems with other gas-powered saws that nick the guides when the chain gets thrown and I have to file the nubs down manually... which is a holy royal PITA.
