Fall 2023 felt like there was this contest between various anime shows to see who could be the Edgiest Edgelord That Ever Edged with shows like _Ragna Crimson,_ _Berserk of Gluttony,_ _Kingdoms of Ruin,_ etc. More edge than a tornado made of knives. But even if they took all their edgiest moments and combined them into a single fine edge that could slice through planets, it'd still look like a dull butter knife compared to any time Cid goes Atomic. It's not about the area being evacuated. It doesn't really get explained at all, but the reason why everyone survived is because Cid limited his spell to kill people only within the circle with the lines. As you can see in that scene, it stops expanding right before Alexia. That's why she and everyone else survived and the dude was killed. And it's also why they show the area right above being water instead of a building, so you know that there's 0% chance that someone else got killed.

I love how so many people who react to this episode get upset that he wastes all the pills lol. Such a small thing but just hilarious that it's one of the sole things almost everyone says.
