I saved the wing connectors from a couple of now defunct zohd models. I may try to put them in this model if I can figure out a good way of securing them.

Flies quite nice and is relaxing. You could use a throttle and elevator mix in the radio to help with the hand launch dip. Nice review.

A great review.....The motor thrust line needs to point at the CG line on the wing but on most of these models it doesn't. I had the same trouble on a HK Floater. Changing the thrust angle helped a lot but it was still not possible to get it pointed at the CG due to the design of the motor pod.

I suspect that is spot on. A few mm of offset may be enough to sort this on the motor mount... Happy flying!

Good review. Seems price point is based on offering dual wing option. Too bad didn't include a easy way to swap at the field. Expect someone will soon come up with some mods. Nice to see new models being offered (given so many is limited supply this year).

Agreed, this year has been a lot slower than 2020 in terms of new models but that seems to be slowly changing as the development that was delayed due to COVID seems to be picking up and coming to an end for many of the new things.. Let is hope winter will be chock full of new toys for Santa to bring!

Great review as usual Lee. This just might be the plane I was looking for to replace my dated ( and repaired many times) Easystar2. I love floating around in the air with some of the Buzzards here in The New Forest, this will probably stay up longer than them lol. Thanks for the review. Cheers Mick

Hello. I bought a kit and have been assembling it. I see you didn't use all the motor disc pieces? Mine came with four. Not sure if that was a fluke? Anyway I'm using a Ex Finwing 2220 motor that I have and it fits better if I use all four discs. So big one then two little ones then the other big one. This interestingly also allows a 9x6 prop to fit. I tried to cover the wings with something we have in New Zealand to cover exercise books. It's like a sticky vinyl. Ended up looking ugly so I pulled it off and the foam is sadly no longer smooth. The nose looks delicate. First flights I plan to cover the nose somehow. I'll share a video of my discoverys later. Won't be at your standard but my be useful to share anyway. Did you need to use shims on the motor mount to change direction of thrust? I found the hatch catch terrible. It broke during assembly. Not a good design.

I suspect over-powering these types of models is pushing it down with more force than the wings are initially generating. It is not even just at take off, hard acceleration will also cause an initial dip while the airspeed catches up with the power.0

@@Painless360 I put a 6x4E blade on and with a 2200 mah 4s I get about 30 mins of cruising. I noticed I have to drop the rates down to 40 weight and expo to 50 to get the smooth cornering and transitions. It's really twitchy with anything over 50% weight on the controller.

Great review as always, but I wonder who Eachine / AtomRC is after with this model. It's easily $30 to $40 (USD)more compared to the Ranger 1600. The specs are almost the same as the 1600 (30A ESC, and 2216 1400KV motor), I guess the Seal gets points for digital servos (at least that is what the site says, but I guess you got plastic ones), but those probably are not necessary or justify the cost difference. Even the Ranger 2000 is still cheaper than the Seal. Specs are similar except the 2000 comes with 2 servos for the flaps. For a beginner, no way that foam fuselage is going to hold up like the plastic body of the Ranger. Additionally for beginners you are going break things like the batter trays, wing clips, and canopies. Good luck finding those replacement parts and 3d parts haven't been published yet. I could see guys/girls with loads of planes and wanting to add another to the fleet. The access panels are a great idea and wish more mfgs would do that. I have seen the manual in person, but based on your comments and what you showed on the video, the Ranger manual is a proper manual (say minus the propeller section). I don't get why mfgs will create these amazing looking planes then put out a manual that is on par with an IKEA set of instructions for a pot of plastic flowers.

I hope that AtomRC address these minor shortcomings as the model has a lot of potential and they have brought out some excellent models with some cool innovation (like HobbyKing once did!). Getting a few pilots to put it through it's paces before launch and assist with a simple 'FAQ' setup sheet would make a huge difference. For this price point they should be adding a few of the touches I mention in the video - I'd expect it for this money. Review of the new ZOHD plane coming soon and it has most of these ideas on it already.. AtomRC has the potential to be a really great fixed wing designer and reseller but just misses a few of the cute things that pilots have come to expect from this level of expense..

what`s the trick to getting no electrical interference in your vtx feed? same trick used when using FC?
@Painless360
@Painless360 2 жыл бұрын
You need the camera and vtx nicely away from everything else and powered from a nice clean voltage. A lot of the noise from a video feed comes from the voltage spiking as the motor and ESC do their thing. Lots of flight controllers use voltage regulation to provide a super stable, solid 9v feed for FPV gear (things like the Matek Wing boards are great for this). Happy flying!

Hello, I have this exact same model, but for some reason the stock ESC doesn't power on (Neither the motor, nor the ESC beep). In the instructions it said that there is a "safe start", where it would need the throttle to be at lowest possible position when turning it on, and yet it still doesn't power on. I have quadruple checked the connections of the ESC with the FC (f405-wse) instructions. The thing is that everything else works (servos, gps, etc.). I've also checked the ESC mosfets with multimeter and they're all good, no problems there and I also get voltage readings with motor wires when I power the model on. I believe I just can't beat that safe start mode. Please help!

It could be that the throttle channel doesn't go low enough (check the travel limits and trims on the throttle channel on the radio) or there is a fault.. Best of luck!

I stopped buying these, I had the Skywalker years ago and it was great and after a year or so of Acrobatics the elevator servo broke loose from the foam and it did a nose drive from 200+ ft. So I replaced it with a 'New' one, I thought "I don't think this Motor or Prop are big enough"...sure thing Same result as your maiden flight, I even tried a 2nd time tossing off of a big Hill....THAT destroyed the plane because it still wouldn't fly and I just added 60 ft. of altitude to make sure when it nosed in it would be completely wiped out. Then I bought another Brand, ALL of my planes I look for a Video Review before buying, so I'm not sure what's going on, are they sending "Special" Kits for reviewers with plenty of power? So my 3rd Plane is also too under powered, I've found if it can't fly more than 3 ft off a table at full throttle, it's NOT going to fly at all...so it hangs in the garage, it's too hot here in the Summer to fly anyway, I'll change the motor and prop in the Fall.
@Painless360
@Painless360 2 жыл бұрын
Best of luck. The issue here isn't thrust, it will easily launch at 60% throttle on a still day. I think some of the issue is a slightly off thrust angle and the need for a little up elevator on launch.
@ceptimus
@ceptimus 2 жыл бұрын
Have you fitted the propeller backwards? Lots of people make that mistake with pusher propellers because they're used to the 'look' of a normal tractor propeller. The writing on the propeller should always be towards the front of the plane, and the concave (hollow) surface of the propeller blades at the rear. If you fit the propeller backwards then it will still fly, but with more propeller noise and only about 50% of the thrust you get with a correct installation.
