You never know until they're faced with a test of airmanship. These planes are very much automated to the extent that in a normal situation anyone who has extensive knowledge of the systems, e.g. a flight Simulator expert, can fly these planes. A pilot's mettle is only proven when faced against challenging and unexpected situations.

@@Carefreeblues That is utterly ridiculous. There is much more to being a pilot than "systems knowledge". For example, pilots train a bewildering number of different emergency situations in the simulator as part of their regular duty. To say that a pilot is only tested "when faced against challenging and unexpected situations" is extremely derogatory and unfair.

It is always most reassuring to find that, in spite of evidently having years, perhaps decades, of experience, that the Cap who was clearly flying today, was concentrating like it was his first flight and doing it by the book - with his equally efficient FO doing a sterling job helping him with the take off checklist. No matter HOW many times you see it, it remains astounding......🙂❤

@@markcullinane4438 dear sir, I actually fly one of those machines. The very specific model in the video, in fact. The same pedals operate both rudder and brakes. Genuine question from someone who doesn't fly: As a natural right-hander there's not one scenario where I'd use my left hand on a joystick of a game controller, my right hand is about 100 times more capable of making the joystick do exactly what my brain wants it to. Same would go for things like carving a roast, turning a screwdriver, putting a key in a door, and so on. My right hand is highly capable and my left is not. I cannot even begin to imagine doing something like in the video where if things go wrong and the joystick needs sudden precise movements to save the day, a lot of people would be at risk (to put it mildly) and my weakest hand *by far* was needed to perform unnatural feeling moments. So how do right-handed people do this with any skill and confidence, or are left-handed Captains in demand?
@ATPLStudent
@ATPLStudent 10 ай бұрын
As a righty myself, I can assure you that with practice you will easily get used to it. you will be surprized how true the saying *practice makes perfect*. with a little bit of practice your brain will acustom the signals received from your left hand and vice versa, then our muscle memory will kick in and in no time you be good at it. I remember very well one time i sat on the right hand of a small aircrfat an tried to land it with my right hand, knowing that I am right-handed yet I WAS all over the place. it is just matter of practice

Almost all planes have the throttle inbetween the two pilots meaning most of the time the Capt is going to be using their left hand and the FO is going to be using their right. This way the pilots get more space (And a tray table with a keyboard included in the 350)

For me, it is the most important profession, you have to have courage and good health, not everyone can be pilots, maybe 15 out of 100, we all fly for work or vacations but the vast majority do not care who the pilot is... but To me they are the most important thing, they come and go, transporting people safely to their homes or their destinations.

@@ATPLStudent it’s true when I’m going to fly and I’m waiting to board the flight I’m always observing when the crew is boarding they’re like a big family and i recognize the pilot by their suitcase and I look at them very proudly and if they have white roots I have a lot more trust in them and I think this man does his job with so much value with knowing that one day he might not make it home, it’s a hard and dangerous profession
