Very informative video. As a professional pilot, you catch a lot of things a regular simmer like me wouldn't be aware of. Despite not being perfect, it's a fun plane to fly.

one thing that Magnar's startup guide has which other streamers don't do: he starts the engine pumps during the first overhead flow. from memory, he said they're needed to get a correct measurement of the amount of fuel uploaded.

I'm sure there's a lot more he has! There's just nothing better than knowledge coming directly from an instructor of the real aircraft!

From Magnar's different videos, a few points, - the TRU should be on through out the flight, it's part of the electronic checklist as well in MSFS ATR, it was not previously part of the official checklist but was added by ATR after some reports of display unit black out during flight. - The ATR 42 has more torque in CRZ settings compared to climb settings. This was done to match the promised cruising speed by ATR. - The prop brake needs hydraulic pressure to both engage and disengage. And lastly about the ATR 42 auto rotating, for me, the 42 variant always did this and I had to set the trim a bit less to avoid that. The 72 version doesn't auto rotate for me even after this update. Since you said that this is the first time you are flying the ATR 42 on this channel, assuming you hadn't done it off stream, maybe, you didn't notice this.
@A330Driver

Thanks for pointing those out! Indeed, first time flying the ATR 42. I was aware of the 72 doing that on its first release, but that got fixed. I just assumed they would have done the same on the 42. Now what does that tell us about which variant people are flying... LOL

So I haven’t finished watching the video yet, from an ATR driver I can say that you have done the majority of the set up and checks correctly, which is really nice to see considering that most pilots doing msfs “tutorials” do it all wrong… regarding the TRU, leave it alone, it’s safe guarded for a reason, don’t listen to what other people have to comment, it’s function is an emergency power source should both DC generators fail, “transformer rectifier unit” takes AC power from the propeller AC wild generators, and turns it into DC power to keep essential systems running. But so far, well done!

Atr is the one of the most iconic propellers of the modern commercial aviation The developer has made a good job. I hope in the next future the developer will improve the cockpit with a new resizing. PFD and ND are terrible, you cannot see every number, you need 4 pair of glasses to see the altitude and so on ... PMDG is the best example with its works on the cockpits Go Mr. Hans Hartmann the Atr deverve much more ...

Agree strongly. As a young guy, I had 20/15 vison. Not anymore. I find the ATR displays to be very difficult to read. Zooming on them really limits your ability to see outside or anything else on the flight deck.

Thanks for showing the new Prop Brake procedure, I struggled the whole morning because I didn't manage to set it off again as this has changed from the previous version. Have you already noticed that (at least with the 72), the simbrief cargo and passenger weight values don't match the values in the MSFS Payload menu ! Only the fuel weight does match. So my ATR 72 was 6000lb heavier than what was copied from simbrief into the FMC ! 🤔

I'm not convinced that if the propellers really came loose in real life, the fuselage could really take the impact without severe damage. I'm not sure they can really test it either, even if they blow up an engine on purpose they can't accurately control where the propellers would fly.

Well, the same is true for being next to the jet engine turbines. If a blade snaps and it is uncontained, passengers die. The reinforced section of the ATR next to the props is for slinging off ice, not stopping a prop.
@MrSunlander
@MrSunlander 10 ай бұрын
Did you skip cold and dark, weights, and hotel mode because they freeze up the EFB or the hotel mode will not undo itself when you want to get the prop turning? I spent way too much time dealing with these new issues that were not present in the ATR before the update. Well done, lad.

This is a bit off subject. In order to be able to fly the ATR using the condition levers, I purchased the Bravo throttle quad, believing it was the obvious choice to be able to fly both the 737 and the ATR. After a week or so of struggling with setup tutorials, I got it working fairly well. But then, flying the ATR, my #1 throttle started dropping out of The Notch to flight idle. I kept pushing it back up, it kept dropping out. No one seemed to have any clues. I contacted Honeycomb and after trying a couple of things, they said I would need to send it back for exchange. They surprised me and said the RMA would be coming. Huh? Why not immediately? I had it all boxed up. Over a week later, still no RMA and I demanded a response. Honeycomb admitted they have lost their shipping and supply contractors. That sounds like they are outta money. Great. Now the ATR is in the hangar and I am back to my cheap Seiko TQ. It works well on XP Zibo 737, and I can get by with it on MFS PMDG. What other TQ has condition levers?

I didn't look closely but it seems like maybe it didn't import the airway portion of the route, but only a few DCT waypoints? Haven't used the update but i know when loading the flight plan from the file it would tend to get stuck when trying to change arrival info and you had to use new dest to reset that (sometimes losing a waypoint in the process). It feels like they don't actually do real operations when they test this stuff. Airways are used all the time IRL but I can see how somebody just using a short test autoroute might not get them.
@A330Driver
@A330Driver Жыл бұрын
I was a bit surprised this slipped through as well. However: ATR is using this Addon on the Paris Air Show as a demonstrator. I'm 99% sure there was an internal deadline to have it out in time for that, regardless how the state is. They'll probably patch it up afterwards as they simply ran out of time.

I'm glad they're improving the ATR, but personally, the cockpit layout (especially the size and spacing between the PFD, MFD screens, etc.) kills all the immersion for me, and I'm afraid there's no intention to change it. I feel like I'm flying a prototype or a demo version of the ATR instead of an airline ATR.
@A330Driver
@A330Driver Жыл бұрын
That might very well be the case indeed, Asobo is very close to Toulouse airport and since they had support by ATR themselves they probably surveyed the one aircraft they have over there: The demonstrator. And that one's still the original -300, which they converted into a -500 and later a -600. Checking out some things like a physical clock in the cockpit that would point to it indeed being the prototype.

@FlyingMartino Жыл бұрын
@@raymarshall6721 man, I don't mean to offend you, but you must be practically blind if you can't appreciate the difference between the real ATR screens and this one. I'm aware that I'm overly meticulous, but I truly believe that in this case, it's glaringly obvious. In the real standard ATR cockpit the gap between the PFD and the MFD is non existent. Besides, the size doesn't seem quite accurate either. It's evident that they used a training model or whatever ATR provided them with to model the cockpit, instead of a standard ATR cockpit like the one any airline might use.

They don't aim to be near PMDG though. I think the level of complexity of the ATR is enough for what 99% of simmers will use on their vast majorities of flights. Also note they did not market it as study level, but they invented a new term "expert series" without disclosing what that actually means. Only later it came out that the term simply means they had support from the real airplanes manufacturer during the programming of the addon.
