The ATRs, imperfect as they are in the sim currently, is still one of my most flown aircraft, there's something really fun about it compared to typical airliners flying at FL370. I owe a lot to this channel in learning its systems and operations. Hopefully they can continue updating it as there are still some really annoying bugs in it.

Amazing videos Magnar. I’m a brand new ATR42/72 200/500 series and not familiar to 600 serie. I learned a lot with you with systems videos and now learning the 600. So, I want to say THANK YOU for spending time to do so amazing videos. I have 2 questions if you don’t kind: *Do you know how can I have the SPS 100% functional in my iPad? It’s giving me only examples. *Are you using the Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant? Did you find a good way to set the reverse?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 8 ай бұрын
SPS is sold by ATR to the airline companies. It is tailored for their aircraft fleet and airports they are using. ATR offers a course to manage SPS. I doubt others are allowed to buy SPS, but if so, it will be utterly expensive (imagine an absurdly high price, and then multiply by 10). Yes, I use the Bravo, but I have not managed to set it up properly.

Thanks a lot Magnar. Your videos are very instructive, can't wait until part 4 is ready. I noticed after takeoff that the ATR seems to have the tendency to roll to the left, if not corrected (which can be corrected with 2° ail trim). Is this also observed in real live and do you just correct it manually?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 11 ай бұрын
Hi. At high angles of attack, there's a tendency to yaw to the left. This will induce a roll to the left. After take-off the angle of attack is reducing, and there should be no tendency to yaw or roll. Besides, when the landing gear is selected up, we engage the yaw damper, which activates automatic yaw trim. If there's a roll tendency, it is because the roll trim is not set 100% to neutral after trims check. Then, we adjust the roll trim and leave it there for the rest of the day.

Andorra - La Seu d'Urgell Airport has a short runway and high elevation. Therefore, you cannot take off with maximum take-off weight. The take-off speeds must also be reduced. With temperature +3 degrees Celsius, QNH 1013 hPa and 5 kt headwind, the take-off weight should not exceed 21.5 tons. V1 is reduced with at least 5 kt, VR and V2 are reduced with 2-3 kt. You must use full runway length and set full power before releasing the brakes. However, the sim model accelerates a too slow, so you will have to reduce the weight, reduce the temperature, or increase the headwind.

Hello Mangar. Thank you for the great tutorials. Could you please explain a bit about the take off performance of the ATR. Today I flew out of Arusha in Tanzania. But even with 1800m runway I barely made it out. TOW was around 21800 kg. And with boost on, throttle to max and pax off I overran the runway during rotation and hardly avoided crashing into trees. It felt as if something was holding the aircraft back. Was I to heavy for this runway?

The runway is long enough, but the ATR model in FS 2020 is accelerating too slow. I know the developers are working on the issue. It is not easy because when they change the propeller thrust during take-off, it will affect the thrust during flight (and those data are already very close to the real aircraft.)

Hi, I'll contact you this way. Yesterday I flew the route LEBGA 1D in Podgorica LYPG with the new update. The second point PG351 was a flyover and the third was a flyby. The ATR flew the second point PG351 well. The third point PG352 is a flyby and the turn was initiated very early and the plane didn't recognize the point and turned back to PG351. When I changed the point to a flyover in the cockpit during the next takeoff just before PG352, it approached the point well, but then flew over the point and turned to PG354. Would a real captain do that in reality? The MSA in the area is very high and the valley very narrow.

Good morning instructor :) I really like this aircraft in to MSFS2020 , but sometimes I encounter some problems, today I have the green Prot Level warning on the Primary Flight Display (PFD), what does it mean and how can it be corrected? underneath there is the amber "speed speed" alarm that flashes, I am at an altitude of 21000 feet, the speed is 173knt TAT -17° SAT -24° PWR MGT set on cruise, TQ% on 42.2& and maintains 165knt, among other things I am unable to take and increase speed, I saw that my fuel temperature is at -5° in both tanks. help :) weight, altitude, speed have a connection between them, is this the error? should I go down in altitude? Thank's for this video tutorial
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 2 ай бұрын
PROT LEVEL warning means the airspeed is too low. Is anti-ice ON? If so, then the minimum speed is the icing bug (amber bug on the speed tape). At 22 tons weight, the icing bug is 165 kt. And are the power levers in the notch? Under those conditions, engine torque should be more than 60%.

What does engine bleed do, exactly? Why do you set altitude manually? Does the autopilot not follow the navigation points vertically as well?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 11 ай бұрын
Engine bleed is air from the engine compressor. It is used to pressurize the cabin and operate the de-icing systems. The autopilot can follow vertical navigation during descent and approach. This is called LNAV. The FMS is then defining a vertical path (in degrees) that is followed. This feature is not fully implemented in the FMS by this date.
@AzzySunfire
@AzzySunfire 11 ай бұрын
@@FlywithMagnar Why do you manually select altitude? Does the flight plan not include altitude for each of the nav points? Does the Autopilot not follow nav points exact location (their altitude and position) ? My ATR In the sim likes to lean softly to the left, as if I have aileron trim set wrong. Did I forget yaw dampener, or is this normal behavior?
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 11 ай бұрын
@@AzzySunfire, the altitudes given at various waypoints are only minimum or maximum altitudes. We select altitude manually for several reasons: 1) Aircraft performance varies with atmospheric conditions and aircraft weight. 2) ATC often instructs us to fly at a certain altitudes to keep us separated from other aircraft. 3) On short sectors, we cannot fly very high. 4) There might be turbulence at some altitudes, so we choose another altitudes.

@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 11 ай бұрын
There are some issues with the remaining distance on the PROG page on the MCDU. However, TOD appears to be at the correct location on the navigation display. When you change ALT SEL, the FMS calculates a new TOD for that altitude.
