Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Alright Andy, so, because I am very, very familiar with gas/oil lines (they are everywhere in my part of TX) easement or right of way for any working line is 30ft. And that’s 15ft from the center of the pipe both directions. I wouldn’t touch the ground in that 30ft unless you have the gas company out there and probing it for you. Simple fix to use your backhoe is weld a plate across your teeth on your bucket. All pipeline companies now require you to use that, or hydro-excavate. And I’ve seen what happens when someone hits a high pressure gas line,,,, most don’t survive. And I’ve seen the aftermath of a 36 inch get hit by a D9. Blew windows out of buildings 10 miles away, and absolutely incinerated operator and dozer. All that was left were a few grouser pads and the ripper shank. Kid you not.

Wow that is no joke!!! I knew it was a serious deal. I’m probably not going to get this story right, but there was a tile plow in northern Illinois that struck a big line. They hit something that stopped their plow(maybe even trencher), so they hooked another tractor up to the front of it. I guess it was a dad and a son. They both died when they broke the pipe…The pipeline regularly sends planes over to inspect their line. Supposedly, if they even see any type of excavation equipment within the same vicinity as their line, they will show up to check on the action immediately. We are very aware that they like to have a supervisor nearby if you are digging. We let a tile contractor fix some old clays that were broken down and close to the pipelines. The trunk line people stood there the entire time because they were within 15 foot. Either way, we want to do everything right. I enjoy our lives and the pipeline enjoys their safety record… 🤣

@@aTrippyFarmer I forgot to tell you, the main reason the fly the pipelines is not only to make sure no one is digging. They are also looking for leaks. And they are easy to spot from the air because all of the vegetation dies. If it’s the winter time you can see a change in soil conditions. I’ve got to fly with a friend of mine several times over the years.

Happy birthday and many more to come. Wishing you all well and hopefully the recent storms steered clear of the homestead. I was just talking to my Deere dealer in Bloomington the other day. 3 new corn planters were delivered over by canton, farmers had them for less than a day and the storms totaled all three. Stay safe out there and cheers to a good planting season.

Andy, we took our quick hitch off our 8345R because it got very close to the front of the planter when turning. We used a loader and chain to carry it. We then put a pipe across the lift arms to hold hem together and help support the hoses. We use only Becks and DeKalb seed.

For the field cultivator hitch deal. Deere makes a converter for cat 5 to 4 with a new pin. It’s like $300 and takes 2 minutes to switch alot better than having to pull that big piece of iron out.
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Жыл бұрын
It isn’t going down to the cat 4 that is the issue. It’s fitting the cat 5 pin if we need it. They said their is a sleeve or something that you can put on a cat 4 to keep it tighter in the hole. We didn’t really know much about the specifics, just that we wanted to be able to run the big tractor if needed.

You said "Hoe Down".lol. and Marty got greased on his Red Sweatshirt. It's a good thing he has lot's of them. I have 2 tile holes on my 10 acre field that need repaired. They are getting really big. The farmer was supposed to help me fix them a few years back but never did. Guess I'll have to rent a "Minnie Hoe" and figure out how to fix them myself. Great video. Can't wait to see that New Planter in the field. TTFN.
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, any good farmer should help a landlord fix their tile issues. They really aren’t hard to fix, and you can rent a mini excavator for a few hundred bucks with a trailer. The only thing you need to remember about fixing them is that grade matters. Keep everything as straight as possible and seal up the ends…. We should be planting next week if there’s no surprise rains!

Deere claims that you should store it unfolded for long periods. We don’t want to run it down the road at 25mph if we are going to drive 2 hours away. It is a lot of weight to have at those speeds. It’s no big deal If you’re just going 15-20 miles.

Question: couldn't you save some of your soybeans or corn you've harvested from last year for seed and not purchase seed?🤔
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Жыл бұрын
Legally, you can’t reuse any of it because you don’t own the genetic property. When you buy the seed, you are buying the seed’s right to offspring, but you don’t have any claim to proper reproduction of genetics. Corn can’t even be replanted anyways. It has to be hybridized with a specific male and female plant. The grain on the ears in the field isn’t as genetically strong. Soybeans are identical to their parents, so you could reuse it if it weren’t illegal.
@macnorman
@macnorman Жыл бұрын
@aTrippyFarmer thanks for the reply. I never knew about the illegality of replanting the fruits (or beans) of your labor. That's unfortunate 😕 And it's odd that your corn cannot reproduce. Sounds a bit like Frankenstein's monster
