For those wondering, I threw the deck together about 4h before the video was filmed from my collection and only really bought Teneb then, the only card I was missing. So yeah my forest count was pretty low, thus why I ran out of target for my nissa the first time I played her, I changed it a bit since then though. Also yes, I'm the Teneb player, throw questions if any, I'll answer them.

I do have a combo in my deck that uses it. LED + Underworld Breach + Wheel of Fortune can win me the game. But if I can't do that, it's still really valuable mana accel considering I have multiple ways of forcing everyone to discard their hands and even without that I'm often in top-deck mode. So more often than not, it's a 0cmc ritual.

That was a great game! Only one that wasn’t at commanding position at some point was Dom and he would probably still had a chance if the game was a bit slower. Chainer winning without its commander was really suprising and that exchange between Borborygmos and Chainer when Sidisi was on the stack was amazing.

@@TheOneAndOnlyCrawl There's a line of play where if you can bin one of the 1/1's, Kiki, and Necrotic Ooze and then use Chainer (or whatever reanimation spell you have) to bring out the Ooze from your GY. Since it has all activated abilities in GYs, it can tap itself to use Kiki's ability to make infinite hasty tapped copies of itself, then sacs using either of the 1/1's to drain the table. It's a pretty sweet and easy combo to run in Chainer, since you can just cast Buried Alive to get everything, then play the Ooze off of Chainer for the win.
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheOneAndOnlyCrawl the main combo in my deck is Necrotic Ooze + Kiki-Jiki (in graveyard) + Mogg Fanatic/Death Cultist (also in graveyard). I tap Necrotic Ooze and target itself with Kiki's ability it now has. Create a copy of itself. Rinse & repeat until you have a thousand copies and then sacrifice them all to kill your opponents. I do not run cards like Grim Haruspex because this is more of a dedicated combo deck than a value deck like Meren would be. So I don't have creatures die often enough for them to be worth it. You could play them in a different build of the deck though, absolutely. But I prefer just playing raw card draw spells like Night's Whisper to draw 2 immediately rather than pay 3 to HOPEFULLY get to draw a couple cards. 2 mana draw 2 or 3 mana and cross your fingers to hopefully outvalue Night's Whispers

Yea I now get why a good amount of people prefer Chainer over Anje as a commander. He has some powerful abilities that you can be more creative with, while anje seems to get her power from madness/flashback themed decks.
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
Anje is a very powerful commander for a straightforward competitive deck. You combo thanks to Worldgorger Dragon and kill a table off with that. Anje allows you to rapidly dig through your deck and set that combo up. It's strong, but too linear for me to enjoy. Chainer is an enabler for a combo deck that has a lot of neat little tech plays and interactions you can play with. It certainly doesn't pilot itself (unless you draw Buried Alive) and really shines when you learn how to play it well.
@Devilish420
@Devilish420 4 жыл бұрын
@@philllllllll If I were to do a rakdos colored deck, I would most likely go with Anje just because I like straightforwardness and just appreciate value and she definitely has both, but I just have no interest in the red/black combo. Chainer definitely seemed like a gross combo enabler in that game, which I think is a big reason why people are so drawn to him, along with the reasons you gave earlier.
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
@@Devilish420 I honestly dislike Anje as anything other than a competitive build. The only alternative I can see to the Worldgorger Dragon combo is Living Death/Living End (with all the new red spells that allow you to cast spells from your hand, it makes playing Living End easier). If you're not playing either of those, I'd look for a different commander. She is extremely linear and doesn't do much if you're not going for either of those. The new Greven is absolutely insane, violent and explosive and I would recommend it.
@Devilish420
@Devilish420 4 жыл бұрын
@@philllllllll Honestly, I just don't like the rakdos colors because its a whole Lotta self discard and I find it too hard to balance it all out but I give props to people who make those colors work together. I'm more into causing MASSIVE life loss and trapping people in life loss loops, I have 2 decks that can do just that. My vampire tribal definitely can do it in multiple ways, and my flicker for life deck is just so damn gross getting my winning pieces fast, as well as locking people that play decks with most of their non land permanents being cmc 4 or less by flickering Lavinia of the tenth every time on my turn to stall the game long enough to get my pieces and win. XD
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
@@Devilish420 Greven sacrifices a lot of life to draw a LOT of cards and hit REALLY hard. A common turn can look like: Pay 20 life. Attack with Greven. Draw 20 cards. Kill a player with commander damage. Then gain back that life with Lifelink.

Ugh. Infinite combos... I get that games can last forever without them, but it always feels bad to me when I lose from a 2 card combo I can’t do much about

I perfectly understand the sentiment but to be fair, a single counterspell or creature removal would have destroyed my hopes of winning. And any kind of graveyard hate (which is severely underplayed in EDH) would have knocked me out of the game completely.

I agreed! Great time and until that shity ending:(

The ending was fine Joel and Dom were so far behind throughout the game and then Joel lucked into a way to win quickly. The ending wasnt bad but Dom being screwed and Joel being behind was.

Then that's on you for building a deck that can't/doesn't interact with potential game-winning combos. Winning through combat damage is the bottom of the barrel for EDH. Winning through an infinite combo that is compact and consistent is top tier. Run more interaction and you won't be disappointed your deck couldn't compete then.

Charles Maillho don’t get me wrong. I am well aware that I build decks that don’t compete at a high level. I choose to play at lower tier tables so I don’t have to deal with play styles I don’t enjoy.

thats a weak ass way to play chainer tbh

It's very close to the optimal version of him you could possibly run. What about it do you consider weak ass? Is it the power level? Or just a distaste for the strategy?

I like it very much :) It's a lot of fun to play.

For me it was more that he had tutors and infinites, which seemed on a higher level than what the rest of the table was playing.

@@loganl8440 You're not wrong about the power levels not being equal at the table, but I lose most of the games I play with my Chainer and Dom's deck usually is much MUCH stronger than what you saw in that video.

@@philllllllll Hey man, you do you. You didn't do anything wrong. I'm sure the game was fun to play, but that kind of dynamic just isn't very interesting to watch (for me).

@@loganl8440 That's fine and I understand that. Some games just end anticlimactically. It happens. If I hadn't combo'd out on my turn game would have ended on my opponent's turn with a Rise of the Dark Realms. It's about the journey, not the destination. Game was fun to play up to that point.

I really hate combo kills. Especially infinites i.m.o it ruins the spirit of the format. I know people disagree and let them. I just hate it
