They really nailed the experience of driving in the American West. The time dilation takes away from the experience of how VAST everything is, but otherwise it's perfect.

It sure does, and in longer drives I think you get a decent sense of the vastness too. I'm impressed with how different the trucks handle and drive in the two games. It's very different.

tip: start making money doing market jobs until you get to lvl 12 or more you are going to have enough money to skip loan and you can test all the trucks in the game whatever your lvl is. And always choose the best $/mile ratio.

the most unique thing about this game is that i apply my real life trucking knowledge to it and it just works. I'm amazed at how well the developers did everything right. There is still a lot that the game doesn't offer that you actually have to do in real life but hat's off to the developers.

Did the "no loans" on one of the play through, and I was leve 8 before I saved enough money to outright buy a truck, though I was able to get a nice volvo with an upgraded engine/trany, and a Midlift, so Yeah, worked out good.

Fascinating. I wouldn't have thought a trucking game could be interesting, but yeah, cool. Back in the 70s when I was 14 and into trucks, CBs, and being a knight of the road, this would have been all I ever wanted to do!

When I fist saw someone playing this game, I thought it was the most boring thing ever. And now I've got 100+ episodes. It's very relaxing, I find it a good counterpoint to blowing things up in wargames. :)

I feel that in ATS, High Value cargo makes quite a bit mroe than long distance (I've seen 18K jobs in places with High value after just rank 1.

I lived in Roswell briefly in the early 1980's and worked for an Alien museum. I wore a costume and carried a sign. I had broke down on the way from Texas to California and worked to get my RV repaired.

Man has time flown. I got my virtual rig sittin' next to Lady Lex (USS Lexington) while I'm sitten at work making this comment. Mean While, at the time of you recording this video, Wyomingaint even released. I'm 'Bout to roll north when I get home from work to Odessa, the OKC, maybe even Tulsa before I rocket north to Montana & back down to Colorado Springs (my HQ) to upgrade it & buy another truck. I'm on the public 1.49 beta for reference. Seems like another year & I'll be cruising through another town I spent my Elementary school years in South Dakota.

That is a bummer, yes. Once had two friends in two cars do that on a highway and backed up traffic for miles. Not fun.

Oh boy ha ha welcome to ATS parking and bollards in all sorts of places 😛. And I will neither confirm nor deny I was driving any buses in or around Roswell 😂😂. Nice video tutorial for getting a new truck quick. Another small tip I use is when driving on your 1st or 2nd quick job (excluding the tutorial drive) try to alter your GPD route to pass any (?) in cities you pass including the one you leave from and arrive at. This will help unlock additional dealers and some so offer lower priced basic trucks. I like to idea of upgrading trucks as its a great part of ATS/ETS and I'd suggest if you do upgrade your 1st basic truck to only maybe do the engine/gears 1 or 2 levels and then look to upgrade the entire truck for a higher model and then you can use your basic truck towards the cost as a trade in; hope this makes sense. Love the episode as always a great watch!

These are great tips, thanks for sharing CM! And yeah, that bollard was a pain. If I were to do this again, I'd probably detach the cab and see if I could nudge the trailer off the bollard that way.

Drive those low hp Mack engines in real life even pulling triples. Yes it will take a while to get up to speed but once you are rolling it will pull it fine.

Thank you for these. So many people do the thing that happens with niche games and assume everyone knows the basics.... A lot of people leave games like this because of the poor info in game or online about the minimum basics.

I agree completely about hitting every stop light red - I have really come to miss the ETS 2 roundabouts. Also since you are working on Achievements, make sure to stop at the truck stops/rest stops in New Mexico. There is an achievement for visiting them. There are 22 in total I believe.

That's a good point, I think I'd rather have a fear-inducing roundabout than a sit-and-wait light, for sure. ~ And that's good to know about the truck stops/rest stops! I haven't been tracking them so far and I don't think the game is giving me updates on the achievement when I stop at one. I'll have to start keeping track of those, thanks!

Just watched this video...don't think I have ever got a trailer stuck like that, but one idea is you can drop the trailer and go around to the side of it and possibly give it some 'gentle' persuasion with the tractor to slide it off the offending post.

Yeah, I think I abandoned one in Europe off camera once, but this might be the first time on camera. I got totally stuck on that bollard post and couldn't go either backwards or forwards. I probably should have tried working the truck around to the right, in retrospect. That might have worked. America is hard. :)

You think Roswell is bad for traffic lights? Try Gillette, Wyoming. Gillette probably isn't that bad but it seemed like it was when I had to drive backwards and forwards through it a bunch of times during my quest to get a garage near the Montana border in preparation for having my truck reset to my garage when the map updates with Montana. There are like 6 or 7 sets of unsynchronized lights one after the other.

Ha! I'm curious now to drive around in Gillette. Might have to revisit. There have been a few cities that feel like they take a long time to get through, but probably because our garage was in Roswell, I spent more time driving around there, and so the issue became more apparent there than in other cities.

Thanks for the information which will be really helpful for the beginners. actually, I was playing quick job and earned early 214000 $; however, I am unable to purchase my favorite truck "KENWORTH W900" as it says I need to level up till 21. my current level is 10. any suggestion to quickly level up so i can buy my truck?

Glad you're enjoying the game! I think there are probably mods that allow you to do those sorts of things, like remove the restrictions or level up faster. I haven't really explored them. I enjoy the slow pace of leveling up. :)

I need a truck to ground me in the universe too. Really cash in on the alien thing don't they hah. Thinking the traffic lights are conspiring against you may not be a healthy mental sign. Makes sense owning one based on what you've said, adds a lot. Oh wow a train :o Oh whoops hah.

But if you think about it, the lights are always watching us, right? So how hard would it be for them to conspire against us? I suspect the key question to be asking is how to get them to like us. Maybe I need to stop complaining about them and thank them for keeping me safe?

Oh Roswell is the worse city I've driven in the game as far as the lights go. pro tip: cut through the city, there's no lights even though you'd think there would be.

Ha! Figures that's the one I picked to start in. I do eventually figure out that Roswell is traffic light city, I think I end up talking about it in a much later episode. But I'm not sure I figured out about cutting down the side streets, I'll definitely do that next time I get there. (I moved myself to our second garage a while later.) I'll have to look into this, yes. I confess I haven't been paying much attention to the mechanics of engine HP, transmission, and chassis. Just kind of upgrading as seems to make sense.

I think any truck is a ton of fun, but I'd be partial to Peterbilt, tons of fun to upgrade and drive. The Kenworths are fun too. And you can't go wrong with the new Volvo either. I think either of those 3 would be great first trucks.

I guess I imagine that we are sleeping in them at the designated sleeping areas, but I agree that it would be nice to be able to pull over and sleep in more places if you have a sleeper. I get the sleeper because it looks cool, though.

@@ZillaBlitz i was stationed in tacoma wa in 2018 and i understand the game cant copy and paste cities but i noticed in Seattle they didnt put in the needle building. which is kind of a landmark in seattle. idk if i missed it or it just wasnt there so thats something i would have liked to see as well as mount st Helen

Since you are skipping the video from time to time, I was wondering how long that 3 hour drive took in real time? What is the time ratio game vs real life?

So there are two game scales in the game. When you're not in cities, etc. it's 19 minutes of game time = 1 minute of real time. When you are in cities, it's 3 to 1. So a lot depends on how often you go through cities, etc. But I find that a 6-hour game journey generally takes me about 30-45 minutes, depending on how often I stop to take pictures, check the map, etc. :)

How do you use cab over mods when there are no cab overs in the game I've seen a few cab over mods in the steam workshop

@ZillaBlitz so your saying you enable the cab over mod and it turns whatever truck you were using into a cab over I don't think that's right because certain mods only work for certain trucks for example the optimus prime paint job only works for the low roof peterbuilt 389

I haven't driven a Freightliner yet, but I like the Peterbilt a lot. :) It's probably more important to have 1 truck upgraded a lot before spending money on other trucks for yourself, but buying trucks and hiring drivers is a great way to make money to upgrade your truck.

Not being mean or anything but I wonder if t is is one of your first times playing the game because you kept curbing it I noticed by the shell that your are using a controller if you can try getting a wheel it makes the game way more emersove and it’s a lot easier I would recommend the Logitech G29 and the Logitech shifter keep up the good work and drive on

Yep, this was the first go-around with ATS, although I'd played a lot of ETS2 by this time. Getting used to ATS took me a surprisingly bit of time. And I'm playing with a wheel here, although I've since upgraded to the G920.

I've only had that after I bought my first trailer (there was a bug with it). If you have a map mod installed and try to use External Contracts, that can happen too. Also, occasionally it's tricky to find the trailer, it can be in a garage or something.

Whoops! Yeah, those lost jobs can be tough. :) The Logitech wheels (G920 and G29) are on sale now on Prime Day for $190. Not cheap, but a really good deal for those wheels.

Awesome! If I'm being honest, I've been more of an NHL playoffs fan than an NHL fan, but now that our kids are older I might have more time in the evenings. :)

I think I chat about somewhere in one of these episodes, but ATS with underpowered trucks was very much a chore, and you don't get good trucks for the quick jobs. I also wanted to see that it was like to spend money improving the truck as we leveled up, which is something we wouldn't have been able to do much later if we grinded away to buy one. So yeah, I ended up going a different route from ETS2, and got a loan and purchased a truck. :)

Some of them are locked until you are at the right level. So you need to level up first. Could that be it?

Bro I got a loan with 100k and 400k I used it to upgrade my garage and got 2 driver with 2 vehicle So I paid off the 100k But I'm still stuck in 400k

@@maged5088 In ETS2, the turning radius (how sharply the truck can turn) is much tighter than in ATS, because the distance between the front wheels of the cab and the rear wheels of the cab is much shorter in ETS2. That help?

Yeah, the only place they matter in the game is turning right on red lights in American Truck Simulator. The AI traffic doesn't pay any attention to them. :)

I knew that was you in the bus! :) ~ Yes, that's a good idea to find any nearby question marks on your first couple of runs to unlock more dealers. Great idea! ~ I think for the Mack trucks there is only one model, so maybe we can just keep upgrading the one we have?
