The biggest surprise for me this episode was that Daz was still alive and in service, and Samuel wasn't crippled for life.

Unlike Armin, Berthold is very very good at controlling his Titan Form. Iirc, Porco said that Bertholdt can control his Titan Form right from the first time he got it and not everyone can do that.

Samuel line about "expanding our land and eating meat together" was a callback to what Sasha had said in season 1 (ep 5?). It was where Eren, Connie, Sasha, Samuel and some others were talking about joining the survey corps as well after getting inspired by Eren. Which was then followed by the Colossal titan appearing out of nowhere

Connie's other language voice actors are really going to have their work cut out for them doing justice to that final scream of anguish.

Magath is very realistic and relateable. He reminds me of some ppl coming from age old conflict areas / systems where the hatred was ingrained in their system. Realistically speaking it would take time for ppl of such background to come around and understand opposing perspectives. You may hate him but ppl who share his pov do exist.

Seeing Connie like this in this Season is just depressing knowing who he was in the previous seasons.

One of the reasons I love this anime is that is shows the realisms of actual war. They don’t carry death lightly but instead show the pain and sorrow one would feel as a soldier in war instead of blindly glorifying it

Suraj transitioning from that extended laugh to "....Millions are dying as we speak" had me rolling 😭😭😭

I love how this season's made us sympathize with both sides of this conflict to the point where we're actively rooting for the previous villains in this one, and end up just sad at deaths on both sides and hoping the fighting will end with unity to stop the genocide. MAPPA adapted this episode really cleanly. The tone of dialogue and voice acting especially felt so meaningful. It's just a depressing reality when the only choices available are the most hurtful ones

Seeing Annie in Titan form again is one of my favorite things that I didn’t know that I needed

In case you need a refresher on who Daz and Samuel were as characters: Daz and Samuel both first appeared in episode 3 in Season 1. Samuel is showed saying his name to Keith Shadis, then we get both Samuel and Daz in the group of cadets asking Eren about the Colossal, Armored and normal titans, and later we can see Daz looking to Eren after he failed to train with the balance training thing. We later see Samuel on the top of the walls in episode 4, talking about eating meat with Sasha, Eren, Connie, Thomas and Mina. Samuel is knocked off from the walls when the Colossal appeared, and is saved by Sasha. That was the last time we saw Samuel until season 4 part 1. Daz is seen in a lot of moments during the Battle of Trost in Season 1, mainly when the cadets are getting prepped to fight titans, he was vomiting and being aided by Historia, he was later called for by Jean. Before Pixis' big speech, Daz tried to kill himself, but is stopped by Marco, and he later argued against Lobov (The soldier who Gabi killed and used the ODM gear to get on the airship in season 4). Daz returns in season 2, in Ymir and Historia's flashback in the snowy mountains, he's the one that was saved by them. This is the last time we see Daz until season 4 part 1. In season 4 part 1, both Daz and Samuel can be seen in the airship during the raid on Liberio. In part 2, they can be seen in the paths among all the eldians, when Eren talked about his plan to them all. These are all Samuel and Daz appearances before today’s episode that I can recall.

Here’s what I heard Kondansha the ones who publish the manga of AOT approached Wit for season 4 but since the schedule was so tight wit refused and Mappa studios accepted the reason kondansha wanted the season to be done during the final chapters of the manga was to increase manga sales. There you have it, always about money

It’s crazy how the change and character development from Gabi which seemed impossible at first had a ripple effect on Magath who also seemed resolute on his beliefs has managed to expand his world view through these interactions with the very people he sought to destroy, I absolutely love AoT and Isayama for this brilliant character writing and story!

But it still affects them. It's still part of their history. I'm not black so it's not my place to decide whether reparations make sense, but it's an argument that exists.

The thing with anime scheduling is that while there was a year break between Parts 1 & 2 of S4, that same staff was all working on other projects, and not only projects from MAPPA studio. And with MAPPA in particular always working on so multiple projects, the schedules for staff are incredibly tight and demanding. It’s an industry issue. I recommend checking out the videos from Animator Dormitory Project on youtube. They have a series of short videos that give concise explanations of the challenges animators face in the industry today, created by people who are currently working in anime.

Armin didn't transform because his titan leaves an insane amount of collateral damage, he transformed in liberio because it was enemy territory but he cannot do it in paradise at will. Berthold on the other hand was behind enemy lines so he could transform as much as he wanted without hurting the walls (his explosion was smaller because he didn't want to awake the titans on the walls) so we saw him in his titan form more.

The colossal titan shifter CAN control the level of destruction caused by their shift from nuke, to same level as other titan shifters more or less. But even by that level, the steam probably would’ve recked the plane

Amazing beggining with the news i laughed so hard xD Also I wanna point out that (I think it was Reiner in the flashback as kids) said that Bert mastered colossal titan almost instantly, it was natural for him...its possible that Armin cant really control the explosion or how much of the colossal he makes like Bert did...so basically Armin is just walking bomb which can backfire easily (in this case they didnt want to damage the flying boat in any way)
