Description:
How do you get rid of a dictatorship? The Spanish had to answer this question in the late 1970s.
Attacks, urban guerrillas, a military coup d'état, social movements, democratic fervor, police violence, a creative and artistic explosion, armed struggle and so on. This transition to democracy was no easy ride. For 7 years, serious unrest shook the country.
Spain finally gave birth to a democracy, at the cost of historic compromises that protected the former accomplices of the dictatorship and that are beginning to be called into question today.
