So glad you put this up Cam, top man. cycling is full of lows with occasional highs. Going through all the failure makes the successes feel so much more worthwhile. Hope you try it again. Can Ribble provide a lighter bike with lower gearing for the challenge maybe? I wouldn't fancy doing it with winter gear on also, maybe spring will be a better time of year?

Chain whip needs to be turned around opposite to what is in the video with the static bit against the block and the whip part going the other way.

A 32 in the back works fine with a standard derailleur. Shimano doesn’t recommend it, but I have done about 25k with two cassettes and it works fine. You could also change to a 34 in the front? That might keep your cadence a bit up and therefore maybe the speed too?

I've tried it myself and it doesn't work for me. I don't have a compact in the front though, maybe that matters?

11-34 with 50-34 is the minimum here. but a gravel gearing is even better.

The white plastic thing holding all the sprockets is designed to sit down onto the hub, you pull the 'release pin' and they slide on zero fiddling. Very satisfying next time show this you'll blow people minds

kom's are so reliant on weather conditions, course conditions, equipment, and then theres more flat segments where most ppl ride in groups. seems like a lot of effort with no return

I have to say i got i got excited when you were taking on that K.o.m, Id love to see you try more K.o.m's but not as steep, That hill is just torture and most of the fast times are probably just e mountain bikes... Love the channel 👍

Awesome effort, and im 100% sure i couldnt do it myself. But i must say, this isnt the steepest in the world. The one in Italy is way worse. GCN made a video about it a couple of months ago, with the help of Andrew Feather :) Maybe your next goal?? :)

Build up a frame designed for going up hills, not one with aero wheels for one and get a compact with a 32 out the back. Plenty of power there just killing yourself with the wrong gearing.

I was gonna say that it's funny how you make your own job harder by always coming here when every road in the UK has the grip of a wet soap. 😁😁 Secondly, I can't believe you said you thought it makes more sense to come down there instead of going up. The spirit of road cycling goes against liking descending more that climbing, so I hope you won't end up in prison or in anywhere worse! 😨😂
