Attempting to Camp On Mersea Island - Is it Possible?

Xiwang and myself headed into a completely new area into Essex to Mersea Island to attemp to camp somewhere. It was a beautiful sunny day and we walked along the beach searching out the area seeing if we could find any secluded spots.
We walked both directions and also called all camp sites on Mersea Island but would we find somewhere to camp?

At least you tried to find a camping spot ... hard! It's a shame that even the user pays sites won't accept tents ... that's crazy!! Nice that you enjoyed the sunshine and still enjoyed the experience. Thanks for making the video. 🙏

Thanks Francis, yes first time I’ve had any issue getting a camp site maybe they just don’t like unknown people arriving same day but I was surprised

I thought you'd bought a beach hut Richard 🤭 That would be fun 👌. Shame the camp didn't work out. Maybe you could do a basic car camp set up, for times like this? Patrick Dickinson managed to convert a small Peugeot. I have a Honda Jazz that is very adaptable. Just a thought 🤔 Lovely video seeing you and Xiwang out and about 👍

Maybe one day I’ll get beach hut. My cars not suitable for car camp but maybe if I get a bigger car. I did see Patrick Dickinson’s it’s a good idea

I’m fairly relaxed about it as long as I enjoy the day out. It’s the exploring I like really just in the hope I may find a good spot to stay

Wow, that looked like a great day out even with the camping hurdles! ☀⛺ Bummer they won't let you just pitch a tent - seems a bit silly. 🤷‍♀ Your search for a spot was a proper adventure though! Thanks for sharing

Thank you - yes I was surprised the camp sites were not more friendly but not suppose they just don’t care as it’s a popular spot

Hi Grant. I was amazed I could n’t even get on any of the three proper camp sites. Not sure what they are afraid of, probably groups of hairy bikers turning up 😆

@DayTripperAdventures I've had the same experience, especially a lone male. In europe it is much easier, and also we found it easy in the USA on a road trip with the Mrs. I was thinking I would like to do a cycle trip in France. Hopefully, I will be out soon, but I'm just catching up with jobs at the moment.

That was a trip down memory lane, I used to waterski off Mersea Island in the early 1980s. Hope you get to find a stealth camp spot on next trip.

Least you had a fun day,my dream is to kayak to a island,i have my eye on one,its scaling the cliff and making sure kayak dont float off,im worried about debs xx

You should have gone to east mersea lots of places to camp that side much better then west a lot more remote

Odd business strategy not to accept same day bookings. Wonder how much money that's cost them

I think they are more interested in selling caravans which if if you buy one you still have to pay high site fees. There’s no money in tent campers especially stealth campers
