Sorry in advance for the poor quality throughout the video.
1976 Toyota Chinook Camper that I purchased on Copart for $900 sight unseen and trying to drive it 1500 miles from La Junta Colorado to San Diego California. What a drive it was.

I had a little 78 Toyota pick up with that drivetrain. Had a well tuned Webber carb, exhaust header, and nice exhaust. Thing ran like a top. Would cruise 80 down the freeway in 5th gear. Always liked the idea of one of these pop top chinook’s. Looked at one a few weeks ago. It was to far gone unfortunately. Rotten roof. Rotten floor. Trashed inside, plus rusty floors in the cab. To bad.

Hey brotha, Hope you get this comment soon. I'm flying to Main from Florida tomorrow Morning the 25th of December. Going to pick up a 1976 Chinook my self runs and all but also a project. Sight unseen. Just saw your video and figure hey, this bro did what I'm about to do. It's a 24 hour straight drive on a modern car. So with stops and food I say 2 to 3 day trip. If you got any insights on what to keep an Eye on, chime in brother or anyone else. Great video by the way. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

Michael A I haven’t done much since arriving in San Diego except install the correct o ring gaskets for the valve cover bolts. I’m looking forward to rebuilding the engine but it runs super strong currently. Also I’m just going to end up doing a custom modern design in the back replicating the original camping design with modern appliances and what not

Subscribed! I have a 1977 Toyota Chinook. Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. Is it a 4 or 5 speed?

Daily Night Society Nice! I’ll post some more updates for sure! It’s a 4 speed and at the moment I don’t know what parts I may of may not need I’ll probably or just customize it and not worry so much about original minus the engine!

I sourced mine from a junkyard in Washington state. There’s websites to help you source parts from junkyards across the country. Not sure about measurements sorry

We have a 75' that's great but has an issue with the front tires rubbing against inside of wheel wells when cornering on uneven pavement. Any idea what could be causing that?

Could be the stock springs in the front sagging. I gained another inch or so when I replaced mine
