Ugh, I took serger 911 from that same teacher a couple years ago and she spent the whole time promoting the things that she sells. It was awful. I won’t take any classes from her ever again. I’m sorry you experienced her. My sister and I went to the expo this year but could only go on the weekend and none of the classes spoke to us so we didn’t sign up for any. I’m really hoping for some good ones next year 🤞🤞

Also, definitely pack a lunch and snacks. The sheriff's office run a bag check-in where for 50cents (or maybe a buck, they may have raised the price) you can check in your bags so you don't have to carry a lot throughout the day. We used to drop off our lunches, go to seminars and shop, get our lunch, then drop off anything we bought with our depleted lunch, and then pick up everything at the end of the day. Best bargain of the expo, we joked, but it was true.

Stephanie Canada sent me! (Honest she did). I was horrified and enraged to hear about what happened to you in that class - assault and non-consensual touching isn’t OK. I’m glad the convention team have responded so positively to this. Please take care of yourself in this respect - I know from experience that these memories sap all kinds of energy out of you. Definitely also know exactly what you mean when you said that experience sapped your energy away. So pleased to have found your channel and loved seeing what you got. I know what you mean by buying for the stash. We may never need more things, but the stash demands its offerings!

I have gone to SewExpo every year from 1994 to 2020. I haven't gone back since, but after watching your video I think I will next year. I miss seeing the trends, the free fashion shows, the new toys, er, gadgets, and, most importantly, the fantastic clothes the attendees made themselves and wore with pride. I'm sorry your classes weren't what you expected, but am envious of your new knowledge and skills. Watching your other videos has inspired me to start sewing again and I thank you for that.

I'm wondering if others had reached out about this. Love all your finds, the fact you like something is all that you need to buy something. Thank you so much for sharing your experience at the Expo, both good and not so good and for your tips and suggestions and I sorry to hear that you had to go through that toxic and negative experience. We not do have sew expos in British Columbia anymore so I am really hoping to get down to the Seattle Fairgrounds next year. Unfortunately, in 2019, all of the nearby hotels were sold out so that year did not work out for us. I really liked your haul from the vendors especially the vintage fabric! Both the cactus and the bird "scissor nest" have the same patent number so I do actually think they are for scissors, also they both have holes in the bottom that would suggest the taper of scissors so i think they are actually made for scissors!

All have been utterly shocked and horrified by the treatment you (and others) received at that class. I pray you are able to find the help you need to process the trauma, forgive and move on. Know that your loving audience here sees you only as the beautiful person you are - smart, creative, funny, engaging and delightful. I... I'm pausing out at 3:55 just to say _w h a t_. Please tell me the teacher was in her 60's or 70's - they're the generation that manhandled my own Gen X youth... never touch without permission. Show me on the dress form where the bad teacher touched you? Hard no. Especially if she was a returning instructor. The fact that the woman was teaching a "fit class" while handling the students is just, well, kind of creepy. She was pointing out people's "flaws" to a group? No. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

Came over from Stephanie Canada's video and surprised to see another O-town person in the comment section. You are absolutely correct with this teacher and the age. I'm a Gen X myself and it definitely was very much of don't ask permission to touch atmosphere while growing up. Which is why I was so adament on teaching my child boundaries and no one is to touch them without permission and if they did they were to immediately tell me. I would have been mortified if this teacher had done this to me and enraged. I'm glad the expo took it seriously and did not invite the teacher back. I was also appalled when I heard how she was pointing out every flaw with the students bodies, there was no need. She could have totally taught that class without that and without touching a single student.

Late Gen Xer here dropping in to say HELL TO THE YES to both of your comments; I simply kicked off if anyone tried it and I don’t ever recall being forced by my parents to hugs or kiss anyone and with all of my nerflings and other children I’ve ALWAYS said that they NEVER, ever have to feel they need to hug me or anything (which, sadly, means they are all the more keen to do so…. Curses). I’m autistic so I’ve always hated people touching me without consent and now I’m in a wheelchair it’s much worse - so many people feel entitled to “help”.

Yes she was definitely that age group, I'm a firm believer that people can learn no matter how old they are so I never accept certain behaviors just because they are of a different generation. None of my family that age behave like that, they know what is appropriate. And yes I am sort of surprised I didn't speak up too, I think I was just so caught of guard and then as the body shaming started happening I just shut down.

@stevezytveld6585
@stevezytveld6585 4 ай бұрын
@@HaleyMarieVintage Her age doesn't excuse the behaviour. But it does explain it - the most inappropriate things continue to drop out of their dear little Boomer mouths, and the hands-y-ness has to stop. I continue to be cautious of the age group because I've been let down too, too many times. There's nothing worse and more of a hazard than a teacher who has stopped learning - I type as a T2 teacher's kid (both parents were primary school). She strikes me as someone who does not take notes from her students on how to improve things. Because, if she did, she would not have physically assaulted 19 people in a three hour period. It makes perfect sense that you shut down. The class was a mess from the start - from rearranging the furniture to the repeated fire alarms. You were in a giant power differential, in a new environment, with a huge amount of interruptions. Don't fault yourself for 'noping' out of the situation. The organizers need to refund everyone's class fee. The world has changed. Body shaming in a fitting course is unacceptable. This class seems to be a return engagement - organizers have no excuse to not know what goes on in their classrooms. The teacher should be blacklisted from teaching at these fairs - they cost too much to be exposed to utter nonsense.

#1 She was assaulted and can make decisions going forward to prevent that. #2 She is part of the LGBTQ community and there very much is a generational difference in how we are treated. For example I am a 45 year old lesbian with a son, because of that my extended family don't want to ever see my son or partner, he's 12. I will leave it at that. #3 Different generations treat body autonomy and body imagery differently. After getting burned enough times distancing yourself because you and your body as well as rights aren't respected is okay and in many cases the best thing for your mental and physical health. I personally love and interact with many in the older generations, but I also heavily vet because of the above reasons and more. My safety and more importantly my son's safety is very important.
@HaleyMarieVintage

What @wildflowerscreations said. Also I happily learn and interact with over 65+ people and think there are so many people that age who are wonderful humans and incredibly talented (including my parents). I adore and have learned so much from people that age and watching the amount of growth many of them have had is so inspiring. I also will amend my statement, I will take a class with someone over the age of 65 if they know how to use social media/have a website and in that social media it is clear they are an LBGTQ+ ally and treat people with dignity. This is not the first class I've taken with someone that old who has made a negative example of my body and I've spent a lot of money on other classes where the instructor had no teaching skills. These classes are not cheap, the one I got refunded was $120.
