Well said, Haley Marie! I applaud your ethical stance on fast fashion. More people need to rebel against being sold cheap plastic crappy clothing made by exploited women (generally) struggling to feed their kids in far off countries. More people need to question the idea of buying tat, wearing it once and putting it in the bin. There's nothing wrong with wearing the same garment twice, guys! Wear it a hundred times! That's what sustainability means. Think quality rather than quantity. Pay what a well-made good quality garment is worth, value it, look after it, and wear it with pride! 👍

With every bolero you make, I fall more in love with them. I need to dig out my vintage patterns and make an outfit or two. Also, the blue dress you wore while making the bolero - is that a walk-away dress? either way, love the treatment with the scallop hem for the front part and solid color for the wrap-around.

Lovely work! Thank you for sharing your process and the background on how you’re making your decisions with your values- some people may not know all these details around fast fashion brands. Definitely a safer and happier choice to try to thrift and get clothes other places when we can :)

Such gorgeous work and I also applaud your stance on Temu: Aside from the serious ethical issues, their financial ones are also a problem. I deleted the app and am more than cross that other influencers who don’t care about anything except $ constantly push them and Shein. (Obviously, in my opinion but based on what I’ve read and other investigations) Loving this on you, it’s stunning and looks like a great summer wear. In other news, bar a pair of snaps to be sewn on, I have finally finished my knicker(bockers) which I macgyvered together from two patterns, some fudging and personal touches I wanted, plus necessary weird shaped body adjustments.

Thank you for this report. As a person with chemical allergies and autoimmune health issues, this is viable information.

I like the fabric used for this super cute set. I think temu is a corrupt, information stealing chinese company. If the price is too good to be true, there is another reason they're selling it so cheaply. An item for .01? I'm pretty sure we've all seen these. I keep trying to block them, but to no avail. Bombarded with the ads is an understatement. Keep it up on "promoting" these criminals. Looking forward to your next video.

I love the little bit of lace. It adds just the right amount of detail. I like the length. It definitely would not have looked right at tea length. I like a dress with this fit to land just below the knee, so for me this is pretty spot-on. I think my favorite thing about the dress is the square back neckline. It is such a surprise when you turn around and so unique! If you are ever making a dress in the future and don't have enough fabric for the bolero, you can make one out of a matching solid color, and then you have the option to wear it with other dresses. Yay versatility!

Those are beautiful pieces. I appreciate your honesty and am sending good vibes. I also shop when my mental health fluctuates (bipolar/anxiety disorder). I know I'm late to the party here, but I hope you're doing well.

I totally love your frankness and honesty on TEMU. I have gotten too many invites to do this, that and the other so a friend can get something free. I knew from years back, they used forced labor, horrid working conditions. Knew of rhe stealing of designs, and all the other health causing issues. What floors me is many just plain do not care........These chemicals wreck your endocrine system, can cause cancer. Not to mention we need to go back to wearing natural fibers as it is more healthy. The polyester your skin absorbs crap that again wrecks your health, not breathable. Linen has an energy level of 5000, can you imagine the healing it does??? My father ways wore t shirts under his shirts, as they wick sweat away from the body as long as they are cotton. We need to return to leather soled shoes so we can connect to the earth. Sneakers were the worst invention ever. Absolutely loved the dress and bolera make. And your were so BEAUTIFUL in the lovely garden!!! Thankful for the cost breakdown as the general public is not aware of the time and effort involved in making clothing. Take care. Peace, love and light sent to you!💚💙💛

I have stopped buying from Temu because I have noticed the price changes. If you choose a product and then go to checkout it's higher. The items that I bought were not products from small businesses. I use PayPal and they protect my account. I never use my debit card. Again, i have stopped buying from them.

I find it interesting that many of the 1950s dress patterns are not exactly as advertised. I've sewn a pattern very much like this one, but for girls, only to find that the skirt was not as large as the pattern cover . I'm so glad you see the vintage patterns, they're very informative as to what you can expect IRL. Fire weed (I'm in Colorado)

love those tiny flowers....I did it Haley, I finished a cross back apron and I embroidered on it...I was the person who told you that home ec back in the day was so traumatic, I hadn't sewn in a long time...I didn't buy a pattern I just watched videos of people sewing that pattern, looked at the pieces and drew the pieces and a friend helped me fit it to me...when I see my friend who knows computers I will try to send you a photo of my apron...

@marywest2896, my first year of home ec was horrible. My teacher hated me, to the point, I almost failed. I had been sewing since 11 years old and cooking since age 8. So, I'm sure I was cocky, and thinking she could not teach me anything😂😂😂. But thank Goodness my home ec II teacher had been my aunts college room mate in the late 1940's, early 1950s. So it was the first time I was a teacher's pet!😁💚😂😂😂. So now at 63, am self taught thru silk ribbon embroidery, french sewing by machine. And many more........ happy sewing, and make self happy. 💚

I absolutely adore that you are so vocal about living wages and considering what we spend our money on. I was blissfully oblivious until I started to get really deep into sewing youtube. I am much more conscientious of what I'm buying and where my money goes now. I'm filling that hole that capitalism says I have with creating instead of purchasing, and it feels amazing. (Especially when someone pulls the "make this for me for cheaper" or "you should sell that"...That's when I get 💫🌈*educational*🌈💫)

I love your outfit, it fits you really nicely. I have heard about forced labor for years, of course, but I had never really looked into it. I just googled how are people forced to labor in China, and I came upon the United States Department of Labor report. I think it is official, I will avoid buying things from China even more than I have avoided it in the past. Thank you for educating us on these important issues.

We desperately need more people like you on these platforms. And really, places that "employ" Uyghurs are not just participating "forced labor" but also enabling genocide (they are providing the CCP with their cover story for the whole thing). You would think supporting genocide enablers would be worth a bit more than freaking $100.
