ive had my Black 2018 accord since July 2018 and I have so many paint chips and light scratches the paint is so cheap!

I have the 2018 Silver 2.0T sport and I wash my car every week. I have noticed some defects but I think more due to rock chips. I will keep my eye out for this.

My first car was a 2008 Civic coupe painted in midnight black. I babied that car, regularly waxing it but in 2012 the clear coat started to fail and turn cloudy on the hood, trunk lid, and upper parts of the doors. The roof was the worst as it started to peel and looked awful. I got the roof repainted out of my own pocket and made a stink about it with Honda, and they actually repainted the rest of the car and even reimbursed me for the roof. So ultimately not a bad result, even though that shouldn't have happened, especially to that extent, on a less than 4 year old car. Traded that in for a 2016 Civic, owned it for 3 years, no issued with the paint. Then I traded that in for a 2019 Accord Sport 2.0T in the metallic grey. Hopefully this paint holds up as I plan on babying this car too!

If Honda doesn't do something, They will have less customers. 😉

I going to wax my car soon. Is this the best product and should I polish it prior to applying the Aerolon Tech Shine?

I drive a 2017 Honda Civic. And I just noticed a couple days ago when I was washing my car down below the drivers door on the rocker panel. The clear coat is starting to peel off. And I don’t think this is normal wear and tear. What do you guys think? I mean the cars only two years old. This shouldn’t be right?

2006 Honda Ridgeline is solid with 135k. 2008 Honda Civic LX has completely lost its clear coat and paint. As a matter of fact, you’d be hard pressed to find a similar year Civic without that same issue. I see it all the time on the East Coast. It’s on Honda. Wouldn’t prevent me from buying another Honda. But it’s a factory issue on some models over the years.

It made a strange noise(tick-tick-tick) coming from the engine through the dashboard just behind the infotainment/screen is driving me crazy. I'm coming from crv2018,Jetta 2016, mazda3 16, juke 12, rogue14, corolla11 and never had this issue. Do you think this is a defect , normal or I just bought a Limon? Thanks for your help.

I drive a 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L without paint issues. But I've seen a few 2008-2010 Honda Odysseys with paint removed on the roof and the hood here in the Northeast Region.

If you are going to invest in a vehicle and plan to own it for the long term, then you should invest in paint protection film. I recommend Suntech, Xpel or 3M for your paint protection needs.

Here in UK, Have had paint peeling from both my A pillars! Was satisifed but this is un believable. Owned cars for 20 years in Scorching weather with washes daily with kitchen dish cleaner solutions and nothing happened to those Toyotas!

FYI what everybody does not see or know is that since roughly 2015 paints are Aqua or water based and I'd sooooo much different than 10 years ago. Bad prep work at factory.

2018 1.5 accord here in Hawaii. Not garaged. Rains all the time here and the sun is stronger than most places. No problems at all so far.

I have the same issue on my 2017 Honda Fit (which is the same color/color code as the white Fit in the news report). Honda currently has an open technical service bulletin for this (TSB 19-064). You can search it online. I'm currently in the process of having Honda resolve this issue. Speaking with one of the Service Advisor at the dealership, this is a common issue with that specific white.

My 08 accords paint is still good. Only paint problem I heard Honda had with was with their 8th gen civics I believe also the 3rd gen odysseys. But didnt know it was more models and yrs.

I have worked n the paint shop at GM this is so bad definitely it should have been caught by their quality control and it's very unlikely that there only two isolated cases. Honda can and should go back to that particular day the vehicles were produced and check the defect sheets see which manager overrode the quality inspectors and shipped these vehicles. At the very least compensate these owners and also repaint the vehicles that would be the only right thing to do here.

It’s true; in fact I have small chips on my hood already due road hazard however I was surprised to see the metal is visible in those areas. Even if there was a stone chip, I would expect the coating to be pealed but the paint should remain not I see the metal! Already worried about since it’s a 2018 Model. Am thinking of applying a hood vinyl.

This happened to my 09 accord where the paint started flaking off the top and has moved to the rest of the vehicle. Happened with the taffetta white color . Took it to Honda when it was under warranty and they offered to pay for 70% of it . The problem is they quoted me at $3200 which meant i would have paid for it in reality . I wonder if its the taffetta white ?

wow my paints not peeling but i have a chip on the hood that exposed a white layer under the black paint coat i got my accord in july 2018 not even a year.

Have a 2015 honda civic si red, and my brother hit accidentally my civics door not to hard with his car door and paint came off like if it was nail polish,, paint looks too thin

Honda's paint has been too thin for a long time. Years ago bought a 2004 Odyssey EX-L for my wife in the dark blue, her favorite color, and within the first year I noticed it was peeling around the rear side window, inside the sliding door track, and under the rear hatch. I called Honda USA to request a warranty claim and a sympathetic agent said she'd see about getting it covered. Called back later and said "Sorry this is considered wear and tear and not covered under warranty." I fought it for about a week to no avail and then traded it on a 2004 Sienna Limited. Frustrating problem to have and even more frustrating that Honda doesn't seem to care enough to fix it. I have 2 Accords in the family currently, a 2014 Hybrid Touring that has been fine thus far but I have noticed a couple of spots underneath where pebble strikes have caused rather large chips (about 1 cm in diameter) to flake off. My daughter has a 2011 Accord V6 EX-L in black and the paint on the hood is crackled all over like dry desert soil in spite of being well cared for. Too bad, we are huge fans of Honda but definitely not confident about their paint quality after seeing this.

I have a 2012 Civic, owned it since it had 5 miles and I haven't had any clear coat issues. Only thing noticeable is crow's feet on the hood, likely from imperfections at the factory but nothing major.

I’m having the same issue, bought my car in March 2019 brand new off the lot, exactly 3 months the same spots came in my car hood, roof, and trunk. I have tried everything and I can not seem to get any help. My insurance company won’t even fix it. I’m so disappointed and stressed about this who wants to pay on something that is basically tearing up in 1 yr.

My white Orchid Pearl 2017 Civic Si seems fine so far, no pealing paint anyplace and looks just as fantastic as it did when I signed papers. I detail clean, clay and wax my paint with a good sealant annually so I’m not too worried.

The new Honda accords are known for clear coat issues n front end can get easily chipped because of the thin paint job.

My 2019 civic hatch has paint peeling and blistering on the side mirrors and door handles.

My 2014 Accord has almost no paint left around the rear window. It comes off in chunks if you just blow on it. Luckily, as of now it seems to be adhered well once it’s out of the window channel.

Did u have any paint defects on ur accord ? , ye i heard to that japanese made cars have tin layer of paint due to there regulation or pai t standard i heard this long time ago, but this paint peeling is obiously a manifacturers paint defect.

I don’t know I have a 06 Civic 170k miles silver paint always look brand new, of course I wax my car every four seasons, and park in the garage, wax usually protects the paint from the hot sun and harse elements outside

I drive a 2016 Ford Escape and the Blue Exterior Paint on the car still looks great as it should. Why shouldn’t Honda keep their paint on their modern vehicles last long like Ford and some other manufacturers can? Just strange overall...

Chrysler had the same problem in the 90s...I had a Sundance that had paint chipping dealer wouldn't help....it's a primer issue Looks just like my sundance

2018 accord here no paint issues but I’ll tell you the rattle with the stereo subwoofer I’ve been in three times had the sub replaced and it’s still needing the bass adjusted to minimum to make it bearable. There just crap cars all cars are unless you start spending Over $60,000

been an accord purchaser/owner since 3rd gen ('88)...i only had an issue with paint on the 9th gen ('13 sport). i hope i dont have problems with this 10th gen!

Just wash and occasionally wax your Accord and you will sleep very well knowing that you have the best modern paint on an automobile.on this Accord

130 Microns is what I have believed from thickness readings on different model cars My 2017 Accord measured 130 Mucrons and I did not hear of any complaints till the 3018 came out My 2017 measures the average 130 Mucrons which is the thickness I have measured in several previous Accords I have owned You can buy a paint Thickness meter The used to be very expensive and they are but you can get a lower end reader that is reliable for around $100 or a body shop could check which would be better than buying one costing you more unless you have the use for it more than a few times I have not had any problems with my Accord including the roof which I heard about some time ago Paint technology has come along way with the advancements used and you don’t need to wax consistently I do 3 times a year and only use Meguiars Gold class carnauba plus liquid wax that creates a dazzling shine as I used to detail cars on the side and I use Mothers cleaner to remove wax as it’s not good to put continued layers on your vehicle and a clay bar once a year to remove all contamination in the clear coat from environmental damage for a glass smooth finish I highly recommend a clay bar every year and your car will look amazing Take care U Tubers G Osborne

My 2016 fiesta st had paint issues like that on the edges... Seems like paint quality is lower due in part to environmental issues.

My 2015 Acura RDX is doing this same problem with its pearl white paint. Towards the rear hatch.

GM had this problem in the 80s. It was a primer issue. I had an S-10. They only fixed what peeled. What wasn’t peeling at the time, did later. My advice is unload it quick as it will always be an issue. Work out a deal on a new car and get another $2-3k off the new one for compensation. No issues with my current 2018 Honda Accord. It looks as great as the day I bought it.

I’ve owned several Honda’s and Acura’s and not one issue with paint or any other things. I can say this though, Honda did say in a press conference just some weeks back that they are in process of building a stronger quality control team at each factory worldwide, especially in the US.

Dealers in our area force a protection plan as a dealer installed option called Super Polysteel which is some protection plan that is suppose to protect for 6 years.. no choice they automatically add it including an interior one also.

My previous 98 Honda Accord had paint issues. Got tired of it so I got a cheap out of pocket paint job. My current Honda paint is good (fingers crossed). But Honda needs to address this and correct it. It’s bad for business.

I got a letter from Honda about this problem in August 2019 advising that they are extending the warranty on the paint another four years, seven years total from date of original purchase. This warranty is transferable to subsequent owners, so even a non-original purchaser is covered. Shortly after I got the letter, paint started to peel off my 2016 White Orchid Pearl Honda Fit. I took it back to the dealer for repair and they had to paint the entire car except for the roof and bumpers. They billed Honda $3263.20 for the warranty work. Not sure how much profit there is on a car like this, but that had to cut way into it. I still have three more years left on the extended paint warranty. But if and when it starts peeling again (if they missed some spots) I'll probably trade the car in and hand the warranty paperwork in with the title rather than go thru the hassle because Honda will not pay for a rental or loan you a car while it is being repaired. My next car might be another Honda, but it won't be in White Orchid Pearl.

Honda cars are know for this! I have civic before 2005 and have the same problems, now i own a new odyssey but not worried you just need to take care of it properly. Wax and seals

Well all I know is my 2.4 2003 is a great car still lovely pant on it and it’s outside all the time and bulletproof good for another 100,000

We have a 2013 white Odyssey that has this issue. The paint is peeling off in sheets on the roof and the rear hatch. Honda will not repair, the paint warranty is only 36 months! The Facebook group is gathering steam and we have hundreds of people joined up already that are having this problem.

Been owning Honda cars all my life the clear coat does peel even if you wax them and keep them clean and I see older Honda cars with messed up clear coat so I’m not surprised But it happens a lot with Nissan and infinity as well

What about air conditioning system? Who has had issues with ac system in general? Compresessor, condenser, low freon from manufacturer? Especially 2016 civics. Look into that.

I was a big Honda fan but I switched and just bought a Toyota Camry. The quality issues with Honda are clearly apparent and they clearly don't want to pay up and make it right.

You are not understanding the issue with the Honda paint. It’s mainly with the Taffeta White color and the paint isn’t just chipping it’s bubbling and peeling off.

I have a 2013 Honda Pilot Touring, white paint, with 7 year extended warranty. Paint started peeling in 2018 on the roof between windshield and sunroof. Dealer in Glendale CA took care of that issue. A year later in 2019, paint started peeling on the driver's side pillar at the rear of the car. Figured Honda would also take care of it but had to go through multiple phone calls, inspections, and get approval from regional rep to finally get it fixed. Less than 6 months later in January 2020, paint peeling off on hood of car and front quarter panels. Back to the same dealership for inspection, photos, and told to wait until regional rep could look at it. Dealership put me off for weeks, didn't return phone calls, and then they finally tell me to go to their authorized auto body shop for "estimate". More time goes by and no one calls. Finally get an answer and they tell me that my claim is denied. Called appeals department at Honda and they begrudgingly agree to repaint only those areas but that I would have to pay a $1,000 deductible. WTH? I paid over $40,000 for this car brand new, with the reasonable expectation that paint would not be peeling off my car in sheets. Honda knows that their paint is defective, as evidenced by a letter they sent out agreeing to paint portions of the vehicle for free, so why is there a "deductible"? There should be a class action lawsuit for the grief they have caused to Honda owners. No way would I ever buy a Honda again.

So that fit was likely made in Mexico, and the Odyssey was likely made in Alabama. The cars coming out of Ohio (Accord) are generally a higher caliber. This is most likely an issue from 5 years ago that's been fixed, and Honda better "man up" or they'll lose a lot more in court. My 2014 Honda Pilot peeled…the roof first, now the hood and trunk. Honda paid 90% of the cost. $112.00 out of pocket.

My two year old Accord that is not garaged and washed about once every week does not have any paint issues.

The 98-02 Honda Accords were notorious for having very thin paint. I think the even recalled a lot of them. I had brand new 2000 EX-L that was always garaged and and kept clean. The paint didn't peel like the ones in this video, but instead, after only four years, it was the clear coat that started flaking off. All the Accords of this generation that I would see on the road had this problem. I'm a loyal Honda/Acura customer, but come on Honda, this is totally unacceptable. I totally expect this from Chrysler, Dodge, GM, Mitsubishi, and Mazda, but not Honda.

Closed my door on my seat buckle and got a dent and a paint chip on the frame and same on the door. It keeps pushing the weatherstripping back under the plastic. First car that I've seen closing a buckle cause anywhere near that much damage

In February I bought a beautiful, white 2015 Crosstour from a Honda dealer. Two previous owners in the Southeast. I live in the Southeast. But low and behold, yesterday I noticed the paint is peeling around the hatch window. No previous wrecks or repairs. Honda Customer Service will do nothing despite white paint being such a problem for them they had to issue an extended warranty to cover it. My car is no longer under that warranty, but the paint should not be peeling off a 2015 Honda that's been well maintained and kept out of weather. I'm pissed.
