A jeweller can amass hundreds of hammers over their career each one doing a different job to the other one.
With so many to choose from, Andrew has selected a few to show you and describes what each one does. He rounds off the film telling you if you only had to buy two hammers, which ones you definitely need.
Andrew shows you many hints and tips that he has gained from his 30 years experience as a professional goldsmith.
Andrew Berry, a professional jeweller for 30 years, is the training director of www.AtTheBench.com, an award winning on line jewellery training website.

I really appreciate your mentoring in these videos. I work in copper, am informally trained, and draw on members of my blacksmith guild, old books, pictures, videos and now your channel. I really appreciate your sensible, calm approach to metalwork.

Nice vid Andrew. I like the notion of modifying a cheap hammer with tools to create different texturing faces. Very thrifty if you're on a budget! 😃

I showed this video to my son. Now he understands all of my hammers ( he wouldn't take my word for it and thought I was trying to justify an addiction lol).

I have that beautiful Fretz goldsmith hammer! To be 100% honest, my dad gave me a hammer that has a sticker on it that says "free tacking hammer," and this is the one I use the most!

Hi I have a question .... I'm not even a beginner on this work but you make such a good vids that I will get to start to work on it as a hobby. The question is ..... Where you get the precious material? I checked the web and I found web site selling bullions of many different weights. Or should chase silverware in fairs and charity shop? Maybe is a naive question but I'm really far from your world and so fascinated ..... I will be very grateful if you'll make a vid about or answer it . Thank you very much You are very inspiring

what size rawhide mallet would you recommend for a ring/bracelet maker? While I have a fair grasp of the other hammers, this one eludes me entirely and I wouldn't relish having to buy twice. Your videos are so useful, keep up the good work. Thank you

Which hammer could you use on sterling triangle wire? Ive bent #3 triangle wire on its 90 degree side and soldered it down in an oval shape. Trouble is the top exposed angle got bent too far down now i need a way to stand it back up.

That rawhide hammer is completely different from what is offered in the states. I would love to find one. The one I have hear is supposed to be wonderful and it's half really hard glue! I really hate it. I've heard soak it then beat it on a wall. If you beat it on a wall wouldn't bits of concrete or brick get embedded into it? I really would love to find one like yours.
@Atthebench
@Atthebench 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. That’s why I would not advise you hit it on concrete nor a wall

Hi Andrew, how do you prevent your plannishing block from becoming marked, especially when using ball pein and texturing hammers?

Just being careful not to hit the block with the hammers I’m afraid
