This nature nerd built a Frog Hotel! Frogs are great at keeping bugs under control and looking darn cute. We built our own hotel for them to stay in. Watch and see if it works.

New subscriber and thank you for sharing this. Thirty years ago my son found a frog and wanted to keep it as a pet. After a week I explained we needed to let the frog go back to his family because they were missing him. During that week I spent more time preparing the frog's supper than I did for a family of four. This is so much better, lol!

That is a much easier way to keep a frog and still enjoy nature. I have a turtle we adopted from a turtle rescue. He was hit by a car and lost a leg. And making his salad is a chore. So I get it. You will love this though. There has been a frog in it almost every night. So it definitely works! Thanks so much for sticking around with us. Glad you are here!

One can temporarily band the pipes together with tape for more stability when adding the gravel. Works like an extra hand.

What a great idea! I have lots of frogs so I may have to make one. A friend gave me a toad abode and I often see residents in it peeking out.🐸

frog hotel! Frog hotel!! FROG HOTEL!!! So cute!! I took a lovely toad out of my pool yesterday. He/she was exhausted, I think, and sat for a long time, then hopped away.

Frog hotels rules!! Good save on your toad. So precious. You can get little frog ledges for your pool. www.amazon.com/Courpal-Animal-Escape-Ramp-Floating/dp/B0BX68RWVW/ref=asc_df_B0BX68RWVW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=806931675336575581&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9014075&hvtargid=pla-2281435179778&psc=1&mcid=1daf886b0e6f31caadded92698b7cd59&hvocijid=806931675336575581-B0BX68RWVW-&hvexpln=73&gad_source=1

@@JolleanSmith thank you!! I wanted a ramp bc my daughter suggested one and I was thinking of just a plank of wood in the shallow end but I like those.

@@julest5767 note I have no experience with them. We don’t have a pool so make sure to read reviews. I just always thought they looked like a good idea. I would guess the frog has to find it which could be hard in a very large pool.

A light over your garden will attract toads and tree frogs. I found this out when I put two LED lights up during a period of armadillo attacks on my garden. I dug a puddle for them during the drought last year and shaded it after they put eggs in the water bowl of a wild bunny I helped. A ton of toads hatched.

Awesome!! I avoid too much light at my end to help moth migrations but I do put out water all over. Great comments. Thank you!

I love this concept! I’m planning on building a tree frog hotel very soon this month. I’ve decided to build two locations, one on our fence and the other in a planter. Can you give me an update on how many frogs you have now?
@JolleanSmith
@JolleanSmith 21 күн бұрын
@@davidtodd3435 that is great! Honestly I have the same two frogs almost everyday. I had 3 days in the month with no frogs. Keep in mind I have only had it about a month. Not sure how it will do overtime. Different locations may be better too. Hope you get many frogs! Do share how it turns out!

I’m stealing your frogaritsville idea. I live in zone 7 and I was wondering if you know if I would leave it out during winter?
@JolleanSmith
@JolleanSmith Ай бұрын
Please do! I would empty the water before a freeze. I am thinking frogs know how to deal with freezing temps but your container could crack. The water should expand over the top but you never know. So to be safe drain most of the water and leave the rest out. They have not spent a lot of time (that I know of) in the water. They just seem to like to stick to the inside of the tubes. Good question though! And share a picture of the one you build, love to see it. I am excited it’s now a chain of frog hotels 😂

How often do you have to clean the rocks? And change the water?
@JolleanSmith
@JolleanSmith 28 күн бұрын
@@bobbyparker3215 I would just clean it at the end of your season. Once you know freezing temps are coming you will want to remove the water. Other than that it’s stayed clean here.
