Equalization has been removed from Audacity, superseded by the two new effects: Filter Curve - uses drawn curves for the equalization Graphic EQ - users sliders for the equalization (similar to hardware graphic equalizers)

Thank you so much for this. We have done 80 episodes and never even knew about EQ and compression. We were getting frustrated sounding so uneven and harsh even using decent mics and pop filters. So happy to have found this and a little ashamed for having not found it sooner!

Thank you so much for this superb tutorial. You are a very gifted teacher! You waste no words and you do not numb the listener with a repetitive introduction. I have found and enjoyed another gem! You may consider illuminating 'scrubbing' in audacity. I wish I could interview the 44 people who disliked the tutorial.

Very glad to have come across your video, thanks for making it. I now more clearly comprehend when the compression and equalization effects should be used. In particular, I expect to be using the compressor a great deal.
@JohnnyHacknslash12 жыл бұрын
I would, for one! So many audcaity tutorials don't really show a lot, or need to follow their own advice on recording as they're nearly impossible to understand while talking during the video. You provide clear explaination, and are very easy to follow along to. If you offered tutorials, I would absolutely follow.

Really helpful video, especially the part on compression, which I haven't seen explained for people unfamiliar with the concept before.

Great tutorial. Very helpful without getting into the weeds. One suggestion. Let us here the audio before and after applying the effects to hear the difference. Other than that it was great and not surprisingly the audio on the video was a joy to listen to. I'm always amazed at some of the sound editing videos I've listened to that sounded like the guy was talking into a tin cup.

To anyone reading this you're not supposed to boost the frequencies like he has here, it's better to take frequencies out and then boost everything later when it's done.
@insidethebluebox9 жыл бұрын
Agreed...
@soundy60597 жыл бұрын
Finally someone who gets it! You should never boost low ends or it will sound muddy
@atomas596 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with your statement. An other useless video. The master of distortion and mud mix.

This is outdated information from the analog era. There is absolutely zero downside to boosting digitally sampled audio.

It could be noise in the room (fan,air conditioner wind etc) it can also be the echo of your voice it passes thru the walls and goes back to the mic, and if its not any of that idk, what I do is use the noise removal in the effects within audacity grab a small part of the track and then the entire track (I hope you understood all I wrote xD )

Wonderful tutorial, thank you. One question though. I thought of Compression as lifting the quiet parts as well as lowering the loud parts. Is there a way to do both, rather than modifying only the too-loud parts?

Thanks for the vid! Could you please tell me why one would want to use the equalization to boost the treble and bass instead of just using the Boost Bass or Boost Treble effect? Also, could you do a video explaining all the MENU options for Audacity. There are some effects that I've used many times, but others I don't have a clue how they might even be used. Also, what's the difference between just the Fade Out effect and "Studio Fade Out"?

Great tutorial. Question: What order should I apply these changes in? I have somewhat noisy audio from a chap off of Skype. My tendency has been to compress it, apply noise reduction since the compression increases some of the noise, then EQ it slightly and normalize with the other voices. Is there a better order?
