I used to hate Hublot for the brash culture it represented but with preowned prices far below the AP now, it should present excellent value particularly in a head to head comparison such as this. It’s got to be the Hublot simply because it gives greater bang (!) for you buck.

AP, definitely winner! But they need to do more small Royal Oaks, (37,5mm), and do a perpetual calendar tourbillon, with only three spheres, and nor four, like they used to do. And use more yellow gold too. And again, AP, make some wonders.

Hey Tim, i really need your help on this question. I used to have the APP ROO 44m in steel but sold it 2 years ago, and i feel now it was a mistake because i love the design! Then i bought a the 2014 AP ROO 42m in steel with the pin buckle, and it dosen not feel comfortable on my wrist due to it is too top heavy on my wrist, and the crown also digs in the hand, plus the pin buckle counter weight is too light AND the i also feel the the 42m straps are actually too narrow for the weight the of case. I have now my eyes on the AP 44mm gold, the one your reviewing. Does it feel uncomfortable wearing in a prolonged period of time ? And do you think it showing too much gold for a 30 year old ? Does the watch, when wearing it, does it have any pressure points on the wrist ? Hope 2 hear from you ! and do you have a skype so i we can make a skype meeting about this AP 44mm gold watch ? I love watches too! BIG FAN! and Great work!

HydroZxZInferno Hi Hydro, thanks... and I agree. While the 44mm Offshore is just too much for my wrist, the substance and finish of the AP are undoubted. The reason for this comparison is that Hublot finally is beginning to deliver watches that actually warrant this kind of earnest side-by-side. Four years ago, I wouldn't have bothered. Today, the latest Unico-powered Big Bang deserves a spirited argument in its favor. AP still has the edge in every meaningful respect, but its finally a "fair fight," if you get my drift. Best, Tim

watchuwantinc Great comparison once again Tim. Its a no brainer for the AP comparing new with new. However on the secondary market with the Hublot's lower price, there's a lot to think about.

True. If you like this style of watch, there's feature content and design distinctions that set the Hublot apart. The quick-change straps are quite impressive in person, and the Unico deserves real respect for its impressive features as well as architecture. Hublot's finish is not at AP levels, but neither is Hublot's finish unworthy when you consider the preowned prices of this watch. Finish is good, features are outstanding, and some will find the design details of the Big Bang more compelling. The Offshore may be the purist's choice, but I'm not sure that the purists generally consider this type of watch. Those who do may really enjoy the Hublot. Best, Tim

I'll agree that the AP is better by most measures of quality, but this generation of Big Bang closes the gap. For most buyers in this class of sports watch, the question is no longer a simple matter of choosing the clear-cut leader (once AP) but of weighing the individual advantages of each after physically trying both on the wrist. Many people will prefer the fit and feel of the Hublot even as they concede the AP is better finished. Best, Tim

Between wearing these 2, hublot is alot better to wear. Plus, the strap on hublot is alot better. These 2 are rose gold and heavy. Sometimes wearing the AP get challenging whereas for the hublot it's just an easy slip on!

watchuwantinc I've been watching some of your other videos, and I have to say, you're doing a brilliant job! Last year, I was mulling over an IWC big pilot and a Rolex Milgauss. Funnily enough, I opted for my wildcard choice, that being the Seiko SBDB009 (spring drive tuna). I think at some point I'll have to scratch my Rolex itch.

Seiko makes very solid watches, and the spring drive is one of the coolest innovations to hit watchmaking in the last three decades. Just as you plan to add a Rolex to your watch box, I can envision a day when I add a spring drive. In my dreams, it's a Credor Eichii II... Best, Tim

I know craftsmanship and reputation of AP is way superior, but I think AP has overdone the bulkiness of its RO. Personaly I think Hublot has put together a better designed piece.

That is the same exact argument that you could make about Rolex or Richard mille:P and still everyone is wanking when they hear the name or see one... Honestly nearly every watchbrand sells their watches overpriced and most of the fame comes from people who haw literally nothing else to do than clashing about who has the most fashionable and expensivest watch. To me it is simply: Either you like a certain look of a watch or you don't, that's it.

Nowadays you can find quite a few brand new particular AP's, where this exact Hublot is sold out. Second hand only. I struggle to find any feelings towards RO throughout the years, but I went pretty much from mainstream hate on Hublot to actually considering to acquire some watches after I learned about the brand. RO's design, lack of useful functions, skyrocket prices and especially nut-like crown which reminds me of my plumber dayz.. nah.

Fantastic video! Keep it up! I think that that AP's strap is a deal breaker for me. :/ It looks kinda cheap if i'm honest, i mean the watch is top notch but that strap blows it! I would have hoped that AP made a better looking strap than that. That Hublot is so comfy to wear with that ruber/leather strap! Btw what kinds of straps you get when you buy these Ferrari Big Bangs? Or do they sell them separately?

MrZambooni Hi MrZambooni, welcome to our channel! The AP's strap is far more impressive in person. It has a subtle satin texture to it that feels sublime on the wrist, and this specific strap is designed to get wet. AP has options in hornback alligator leather that look and feel like a million dollars, but they're restricted to high-and-dry use. The Hublot King Power Ferraris generally come with a few accessory straps including a rubber/leather hybrid and an all-rubber model for use in water. Because many of these watches are purchased at Hublot boutiques, exceptions and special throw-ins do appear on a regular basis, but the two accessory straps tends to be the rule. Additional straps can be purchased off of Hublot's website or at the dealers. Either way, Hublot's quick-change system makes the swap a 15-second tool-free job. Best, Tim

+Stephen Katz Hi Stephen, good point. Style and personal taste preferences not withstanding, are certain brands that only make sense as pre-owned purchases. Sadly, every LVMH brand falls into that category. I say "sadly," because that pool includes Zenith, a maison that I adore. Moreover, there are some Hublot models that feature respectable watchmaking content and admirable assembly quality, but the spectre of a flooded market haunts these references as well. It's a buyer's market for these watches, and LVMH - especially Hublot - has yet to learn the lesson that AP took to heart from 2013 forward; constrain supply today, restore the brand tomorrow. I see in other videos, reviewers usually wear gloves. Why is it for this one the reviewer doesn't? Is there particulars or just a preference?

+Blake Lee Hi Blake, great question. My main reason is personal preference. Since I have no particular hygiene or nail-biting blights to cover, I never felt a need to wear gloves... I'm not hiding anything ;-) In terms of pure practicality, I also feel that I have a much more secure grip on the watches and their functions without fabric on my hands. It might not seem like a huge distinction, but in my time with the watch industry, I've seen too many white-gloved boutique employees slip while showing merchandise. With over 800 videos shot to date, I feel like even a 1% chance of disaster with slick fabric gloves would have caught up with me by now. But in all honestly, please let me know if you'd prefer to see gloves. At the worst, I'd just have to find some with rubberized grips to guard against slips. Best, Tim

+MrJKL Foams Thank you, and welcome to our channel! I'll definitely review the Heuer01 as soon as I have one in-house. While I have not received and example in my inventory just yet, I have seen and worn the watch within the last month. It was an early (pilot) production model from TAG Heuer's North American VP of Sale, Roland Enderli. His example wore the blue strap option, and I thought it was quite attractive in person. The key question, wrist fit, was answered in a most encouraging fashion. Despite the size of the case (45mm), the fit was secure and comfortable on my 16cm wrist. Finish of the case and dial was very good, but the use of PVD steel means this won't age as gracefully as a ceramic black timepiece. The overall vibe was "Hublot," so if that appeals to you, this Carrera model will deliver virtually everything the equivalent Big Bang size and style delivers; an extroverted look, a rugged movement, decent durability of case and strap. For practical purposes, this watch gave me the impression that it's 90% of an Hublot Big Bang at 25-33% of the price. Best, Tim

the bezel screws on AP look terrible...bordering on gaudy. in fact they should get rid of them entirely. I would go with a Ti bezel inset in a carbon fiber collar

Stylistically, I prefer Seiko SNP017. Better looking, and more reasonably priced from $600-$700 new on eBay. And if the bracelet wears off, spare bracelets are also available on eBay for $125 a pop. Can have an excellent, beautifully styled and ultra-reliable watch lasting 25 years for every day of the week for a fraction of the cost those Swiss bozos. Come on people. Wake up. Are the horologists like audiophiles who need platinum cables or something? I like high-end audio equipment, but you can buy a superb audio player for $1,000. No need to really blow $100,000 unless you're planning to keep it in a bank vault as never worn jewelry. I believe the Swiss manufacturers' watches prices are outrageous. Okay, if it's bespoke movement like Jeager LeCoultre or even Rolex, but TAG Heuer and Hublot with ETA movement? ETA movement is good for $2,000 max, not for $10,000+ This is ridiculous. Having said that, I still prefer audiophiles and horologists to say, Apple fans. Definitely less annoying then Apple fans. That's the only reason I can still watch audiophile and horology related videos.

I honestly like the hublot. More details and an ergonomic design. The AP looks bulky and is for brand conscious people.
