Honestly I'm kinda lost for words.. 1- why on earth did he split the intake in half? (usually you take the whole thing off in one piece), 2- you don't reuse old metal gaskets! 3- if you came this deep, why not change the oil non return valves? (common cause of start up rattle)
@clubs8199

By splitting the intake you have access to the exhaust gasket which he said he would replace. Everything else I agree, really confusing why he didn't do a complete job considering the effort he put to get to the valley

First off, there are a shit ton of parts we are discussing in this context and video, so nobody here would know what part you are even trying to refer to. Second, your urgency is impressing no one, and making it more difficult for anyone to be willing to even share information with you, And third, that sounded demanding, non appreciative and entitled all in the same sentence fragment. There wasn’t a “please could you” or anything in there. If you expect people to help you, or throw you a bone, show some respect, appreciation, and patience.

@MechanicalTriage
@MechanicalTriage 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t remember doing a chain replacement on this one, I would remember that. But the engine comes out to do it. Things to be aware of, mileage, oil consumption, and oil type used. If they switched back and forth from pennzoil (jiffy lube) to Castrol or mobile, and it has over 80k miles, I would avoid it. Do your diligence in learning the history of this car, like all cars, before you purchase it. The chain system has a lot of things that could fail. Here is a quick video I found showing the complexity of the timing chain system. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g993q7Z_qayvXac.html
@christian_urocar
@christian_urocar 3 жыл бұрын
@@MechanicalTriage woah that’s crazy bro. I wasn’t aware that oil type affected it that much. I’m new to Audi , coming from Porsche . What’s the one you recommend ? I usually go with castrol 5w40? I used to use Mobil 1 0w40 on the porsches
@MechanicalTriage
@MechanicalTriage 3 жыл бұрын
Either of those are good choices, and pennzoil isn’t bad, what’s bad, is when you go from pennzoil to any other oil and then back and forth. They have different detergents in them and do not play well together. If a car always had pennzoil, like the 2007 Dodge Ram, that gets pennzoil at the dealership, that nobody tells you about, stay with pennzoil the entire life of the car. If not, stay with whatever brand you like. Just check to see if there is an extensive history of it going to jiffy lube. Do as much research as you can.

I change my coolant hose and my audi a4 it was working fine now it's not holding coolant and oil. I wonder what is that about?
@MechanicalTriage
@MechanicalTriage 2 жыл бұрын
There should be an oil cooler behind the oil filter. It has journals for coolant and oil in it. When the gasket behind it goes bad, or gets disturbed after aging, it will leak both coolant and oil, straight down the motor and out. Sometimes you won’t see a huge mess on the motor, it may drip straight to the ground.

Does anyone know if you can change the valve seals on this specific engine with the motor in the car still? Curious since they have a timing chain in the back of the motor instead of a belt. I believe my s4 needs new valve seals
@MechanicalTriage
@MechanicalTriage 2 жыл бұрын
The 4.2 motor has a dohc front facing timing chain arrangement, no rear chains like the belt/chain setup in an a3. The chain is extremely involved, and after you have the cams out, there are some very specific things that you be needing to do In order to pull the seals without dropping a valve into the engine. , and probably a slough of specialty tools.
@MechanicalTriage
@MechanicalTriage 2 жыл бұрын
Can it be done in the car? Yes, but you are so close, why wouldn’t you do the head gaskets while you are that close? That would be just as fast as trying to do the seals with the head on. , you could even put a mild lap on the valves, depending on your mileage.
@connornoel28

If it spaces it out from the front of the motor, then not recommended. The belt will rife at an angle and kill the belt. If it’s spaced in a way that makes the belt need to be longer, but all the pulleys stay even with each other, that may work.
