Excellent! Thank you! I took my Q5 to Audi to get it diagnosed. They are telling me valve gaskets, upper timing covers and cam adjuster o rings. I'm now gonna check the oil filter housing. All seems pretty straight forward. The dealer wants $3800 for the job. Ha! No chance. $80 worth of parts from FPC Euro.

07 A4 3.2 6MT did the vacuum pump reseal/gasket, VCG, camshaft solenoid o rings, replaced the oil filter top housing & new spark plugs as the 110k mile service. After everything, we power washed under carriage of oil stains & cleaned engine bay. So far, upper/lower timing chain housings are dry of oil. The car was initially throwing cyl 1 misfire code (no hiccups or rough idle aside from the engine light) & noticed some oil on the tip of a coil pack I’m concerned about the cam girdle gaskets eventually failing. How often have you seen that with higher millage 3.2s?
@EuropeanAutoRepair

I see that from time to time on those but it usually stays a small leaks, rare that you ever really see them losing a lot of oil from that

Thank you for this video. I picked up my friend 2006 a4 3.2l v6 avant. He said the rear main seal is leaking but I have a hard time believing that’s what it is when I am under the car. I do notice I also have the puddle under the intake manifold. What do you recommend changing on the oil separator? Just the gasket or the unit too? And as this is being done I will also do the oil filter housing changed and see if the oil leak comes back.

Hopefully the valve cover gasket is the cause of the oil on coil packs, if that doesn’t resolve issue could be camshaft plate, any faults stored?
@JasonTaylor-zf6fo
@JasonTaylor-zf6fo 9 ай бұрын
There are two gaskets. It's the one under the valve cover gasket. You can see how deep it goes as there's a split in the coil pack tube about halfway down.
@EuropeanAutoRepair
@EuropeanAutoRepair 9 ай бұрын
@JasonTaylor-zf6fo that’s the cam journal plate, it’s a liquid sealant and a little more trouble to repair being that it holds down the camshafts

06 A4 Quattro here... I think mine is a valve cover gasket issue. However, I check the oil almost daily because I am worried. Engine oil level has not decreased since I first noticed the small amount of white smoke due to the burning oil. Is this something that I can wait till my next check to get fixed or should I stop driving all together until I get it diagnosed/fixed?

I have a 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro in Excellent Condition but with major oil leak. Aside from the vaccum pump, I see alot of oil below the coolant bottle towards the back of the engine. It's landing on the exhaust manifold shield and burning. It doesn't appear to be leaking from the cam solenoid adjuster. The rear timing chain covers were sealed in the past. There is oil everywhere. I know the cam girdle gasket below the spark plug valley is leaking into the spark plugs but not sure how the oil is leaking out. oil filter housing looks okay. No leaks on top of engine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you clean the engine around the drivers side valve cover run it and look with a mirror on a stick at that seem it’s likely what’s leaking, let me know what you find

@@EuropeanAutoRepair I went to change the valve cover gasket and discovered it was the variable timing solenoid. The valve cover gasket doesn't go around the solenoid so it leaks under the valve cover when the oring is bad. You can't tell it's the solenoid at first glance. I put a new oring on the solenoid. I believe it takes a square oring but I used round ones. Oil leak solved. It was gushing out on both sides of the engine. Now I have to work on the vacuum pump next that's leaking alittle oil.

If it's a 3.2 every once in a while you find one with bad timing chains. Usually upper tensioner or chain stretch. Would be worth having a mechanic listen to the timing cover and make sure that's not what's happening.
